bauercrew Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 hi everyone i use to build model cars for a while useing enamels and lac paint and clears ,but the smell and clean up starting getting to me so i stoped for about 2- 3 years ( YES I HAVE A SPRAY BOOTH)recently got back into because i have read about people useing craft paints acrylic water based, so i figured i give it a try well at first it was a total flop, tryied thining with water, rubbing alcohal, windsheild washer fluid, i used apple barrel brand , folk art brand the stuf you can get at micheals craft stores nothing worked ,it was to thin or paint would seperate with what ever i thinned with just a mess, then i read about this stuff liqutex flo aid so i looking for that boy did i get a sticker shock on that stuff $11.00 a bottle(BUT a little goes a LOOOONG way when mixing)so i bought some of that and i switched to micheals brand (craft smart) acrylic paints, still use a little windshield washer fluid to thin ,well guess what next day went and bought a whole bunch of the craft smart paints this stuff is flowing so nice i am very pleased with results so what ever the liquitex flo aid made out of IT IS THE BOMB and yes i have sprayed a body with this stuff couldnt be any happier.......just also want to mention you DO have to clear it to protect it ,,,,,dont laugh but i use krylon acrylic satin AND crystal clear gloss so that is the only fumes i have to deal with which is far better than lac and some of the enamal smell .and this stuff polishes out beautiful best part is the clean up------ WATER you do have to play with the air pressure a little im spraying at around 15-25 psi with a gravity feed brush this. has probably been discussed before so i aplogize if it has been ,i was just happy to get back into building again
GeeBee Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I've been using the same kind of stuff for a while, made by Winsor & Newton, acrylic flow improver, and Testors acrylic thinners thins most artist acrylic paints ready for airbrushing,
Miatatom Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Welcome to the forum, Bill. I've been using this recipe lately and really like it. Still working on getting the clear to work though. Fill 100 ml container with 2/3 distilled water, and 1/3 isopropyl alcohol. Add 2 ml of Liquitex Professional Flow-Aid Fluid Medium and 2 ml of Liquitex Professional Slow Dri Blending Medium.
1930fordpickup Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks for the info Bill. Info is always welcome.
OldTimer50707 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I've use craft paints along with Createx paint. I thin both of them 50/50 with Future and use Future as a clear coat.

JTRACING Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) I mix washer fluid and water 50/50 and then add a few drops of glycerin, then use that thinner 50/50 with the paint, results are great Edited January 19, 2015 by JTRACING
OldTimer50707 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 What air pressures do you spray at, Lee? Usually 22 to 26.
