Darrell Gwinn Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) After looking at a lot of the cars on this forum I decided to build something different than I usually do. This is just a random add things as I go kind of car. My first idea was to have it be a mid engine car and the body would tilt forward, but the body itself is just too small and couldnt fit a motor plus an interior. So I'm just keeping it simple... ok not necessarily simple, but atleast the motor is up front now. I chose a Fors SOHC motor for this, it's funny because I'm a Chevy guy and all my posts on here so far have been Fords. ha, but anyways I always thought Ford's cammer looked pretty mean. It'll be fuel injected with some rediculously long stacks and a pair of zoomies to give it a dragster look. I'm probably going to paint the body flat black and maybe put decals of some sort on it, maybe flames or pinstripes, who knows. With that, what would you call it? Could you call it a rat rod because it sits low and will be flat black? Ehh, I guess it'll be a rod of some sort. haha welp if you have any suggestions let me know! Ok, here's the frame that I'm piecing together, I'll probably beef up the front frame rails a bit to hold that cammer. This is the first time i really have gotten into this much customization and Im still learning and I'd like to thank everyone for all the input and positive comments! Edited February 8, 2008 by Dirk
kasteer Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Looks cool! Have you thought of running a big fat exhaust under the cab and then up theough the roof behind the cab? Would look kinda cool and be different. If it's low and flat black (maybe looking a little unkept) I would call it a rat. Keep posting pics. I want to see how it comes out. Eric
fordsixty Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 hey cool, build on the fly. no plans, just ideas. just the way i like it. you have a really good start there. but, you know, you could still go mid-engine. use a front wheel drive (longitudinal) v8. like a cadillac northstar. then run the overly long injector stacks thru the roof and the exhaust out the back (drag boat style). just a thought. however you build it, just keep us posted.
James W Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 A nice mock-up. I like the length of the chassis. The body looks just right too, looks like you chopped it. From the side shot I would say try to keep the engine from getting too tall, it will unbalance the look. Maybe a crank drive blower is in your future.
Hollywood Jim Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Yes, yes, yes.... I like your idea.!!!!

Hey thanks, yea I chopped it long ago for a project i never really started, it just didn't look right as tall as it was since the body is so narrow. I have been rethinking the fuel injection, but im not sure yet, ill have to mock up some different things to see what looks best.
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Here's some inspiration for you...... Ha, it's kinda funny cause I had thought about putting diamond plate on it somewhere, thanks for the pic!
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Oh, hey I posted this in the Wanted forum, but I need some valve covers for this SOHC motor, the ones with the oval and has 427 SOHC on them, and i may need heads too. If anybody has them and would like to sell them or trade them to me, let me know! thanks
CaseyG83 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 wicked awesome. If you watched the barret-jackson this year some sold one that was painted in what looked to be spray in bed liner. it was really cool!!!!!
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 Ive been straightening out the frame and working on the front suspension. Today I'll start mocking up the motor and weigh my options. once I get things together Ill post some pics.
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 quick mock up of the motor and I'm sticking with the fuel injection. I think it looks just fine indeed. I painted the rear wheels flat black and put a chrome ring on them, rat rods deserve to have chrome too! haha the front wheels i painted just to see how they would look with some gold in them and i kind of like it, but I will re piant them for better quality. This thing sits so low the original oil pan was out of the question, so im using a dry sump pan instead.
Kenny Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 427 cammer parts and 9" rear end were put in the mail on Wednesday. Of course we had so much snow the mail lady didn't come until Thursday. I bet you get them on Saturday.
evilone Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 ###### a man after my own heart LOL that thing is going to be sweet bro cant wait to see more its like crack i cant get enough

Eric I like your idea with the exhaust, I'm gonna do it on another rat rod project I just started!
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 Welp, this project is being put on hold until I get paint and find a place to paint, I wish it would warm up! Once I get the motor together I can finish mock up of everything. Ill get pics up as soon as possible
Darrell Gwinn Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) Well Im having troubles finging a spot to locate the master cylinder, i wanted to mount it on the frame but the trouble is the frames so narrow it will be in the way of the transmission since im making the linkages for the 4 speed. I dont think there is enough room to mount it on the firewall either. So does anybody have any ideas? Edited February 14, 2008 by Dirk

I have no idea how someone would fill the reservoir, but you could just leave it off, and say you did that, lol.

I was gonna try to go into a lot of detail with this model but since theres really no room for anything I may just have to keep it simple.
OLDERGUY Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Looks like its going to be wild. I think I have parts of a couple of c-cabs. Starts me think'n and I won't copy any ones stuff. Maybe alitte, just alittle. Looking forward to seeing it done.

I dont mind if my stuff is used for inspiration or completely copied, doesnt bother me any!
