landman Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) The engine is pretty well done. The instructions show a heat riser but it wasn't in the parts I bought. If the air cleaner proves to be too tall, I can always cut it down or fab some remote installation. As for the exhaust, I'll try to fab something like a Nascar exhaust in larger diameter, likely a drinking straw. I will need to cancel one of the storage compartments and make a nice oblong hole for the pipes, sorta like a Mercedes SLR. An I thought I had cleaned up that resin body thoroughly. Go figure. Mopar - D Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Did you let it soak in Whiley's bleach? I let my resin body's soak for at least 24 hours or more and then use a tooth brush to scrub them.

But this time around I soaked it in Purple Power and it worked a lot better. It is back in primer. Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
landman Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) Installed the completed engine in the chassis along with the radiator. Had to carve at the other side of the front crossmember to clear the air compressor this time. With everyting in place I'll be able to invert it and figure out an exhaust system. Started on the interior and the wheels as well. Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
Mopar - D Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Pat your engine looks good sitting in the frame.
landman Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) Took a run at painting the cab Ontario Licence Plate Blue (Far right in post #63). Of all times for the rattle can to start acting up. Tried to salvage it using the other can I have. Should have used it first. The second photo shows what I thought of the results. What are the steps to clean up the brake fluid? Purple Power again? Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
landman Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) Removed the piping from the mufflers and drilled them out for 1/8 tubing. Made some exhaust pipes out of that. Added a second channel to support the mufflers. Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
landman Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) Taped the body together and mounted the frame in it to "study" the various exhaust routing possibilities. One scenario would be to turn 90º to the bottom of the battery box and exit there. At first I thought It would be neat to cancel the first compartment door and go through it. But I assume that leads to the batteries. So it would have to go under the lip. A second scenario would be to mount the stacks together under the lip and bring the piping to them. A third one would be more "racer-like" would be to come out at an angle with big-bore pipes. And a fourth easy one( not to say lazy) would be to dump straight down from the ends of the mufflers. kilrathy10 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) Hmmmm.....All of them look pretty feasible.....But I think you have one more option....Just go straight out the back of the truck like an 80's 5.0 Mustang....Or holes right out the back end of the truck with the tips just visible along with the tail lights or something......Just a thought.....Should be legal...School buses do.... tbill Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Pat, looking good! engine looks fabulous. I usually give a good bubble bath after brake fluid to make sure it's all off the body/parts. all the exhaust options could look good, but I gotta say, I kinda like JT's idea. out the bumper would look cool.
Mopar - D Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Pat paint is sure not your friend with this build like Tom said make sure you give it a good soap bath before repainting. I'm also with JT And Tom on going stright out the back with the exhaust pipes.

I'm also with JT And Tom on going stright out the back with the exhaust pipes. Paint is my weakest point as a modeller. It has always been a frustrating, messy, difficult part of the job. And of course, it is what people see first. I painted my '67 Mustang at least twice.before I got it right.
Petetrucker07 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I'd go side exit, 1 on each side. I think it would cool with a big chrome tip in front of each wheel well.
landman Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Pat do you have a air brush? Yes, a Badger 350.
gatorincebu Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I'd go side exit, 1 on each side. I think it would cool with a big chrome tip in front of each wheel well. I would also go with one on each side! be Well Gator
Superpeterbilt Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Lookin good man. I like JTs idea of coming straight out the back. I think it would look killer.
landman Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) Started adding color to the interior. We have wheels. Round 3 Edited January 12, 2021 by landman
Mopar - D Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Looking good so far. Mabe trying your air brush will help just decant the rattle can into. A paint jar.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I also like JT's idea as well. BTW I really like the build here
tbill Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 wheels look terrific! got my fingers crossed for you on the paint job
