6ohMax Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Just a quick question. I have noticed a few of you use a light blue paint color to detail the washer bottle in the engine bay. What do you use ? I was looking at these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Testors-Model-Master-Bright-Light-Blue-Gloss-1-2-oz-2766-/281505249111?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item418b053757 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-Acrylic-XF-23-Light-Blue-23ml-Bottle-of-Paint-81323-/131412238886?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e98c7a226
Snake45 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 The one I did, I painted the bottom half of the bottle with MM Chrysler Engine blue, and then I airbrushed a VERY light coat of flat white over the whole bottle. The effect came out quite nice looking.
Mike Chernecki Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I paint the washer bottle flat white and add the fluid level with blue highlighter.
Monty Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Since most washer fluid bottles are a semi-translucent white, you'll probably want to start with a flat paint. I've also seen Richard's technique (post #2) done with acrylic candy blue airbrushed on first, followed by a mist coat of flat white.
Tom Geiger Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Does your kid have a set of water colors? I use water color blue for coolant (first I paint the reservoir flat white, and mist another coat over the water color blue) and green for coolant.
Ramfins59 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I've had success using Tamiya Clear Blue for washer fluid containers...
1972coronet Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I haven't tried it yet , but I don't wonder if the following would work : - Scrape or Dremel the inside of the washer reservoir (or radiator expansion tank / recovery tank for this matter) until it's thinned-down , then ; - Paint the inside of the reservoir with blue (washer) , green , orange , or red (expansion tank / coolant recovery tank) . Certainly , this would only work if : - The 'tank' is moulded in white - Is a sepearate piece - Can be accessed by removing it from its moulded-in-place location (think : 80's Monogram kits that are now moulded in white) I'll have to try this on the 1975 Dart Sport that I'm (very slowly) building , as its washer fluid tank is a sepearate piece , and is moulded in white .
Snake45 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Not the best pic but the only one I have of a washer tank. The one in my '67 Chevelle is much better.
