av405 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 What would be the best paint to use for replicating the grilles/bumpers on these base trim trucks? I like working with Tamiya and acrylics in general for airbrushing and painting out of the can.
Badluck 13 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 The bumpers I haven't had much luck in matching but on the grilles I personally find "Model Color" 70.562 Black Grey acrylic is pretty close I find them at Hobby Lobby with the model paints they have some really neat colors to work with for details n such...
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Looks like a perfect place for Alclad to me. Steve
935k3 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Tamiya XF63 or TS4 German Gray Edited March 5, 2015 by 935k3
espo Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Another Tamiya option would be either TS-38 Gun Metal or TS-42 Light Gun Metal. The TS-38 is not as dark as the cap would lead you to believe. Either way you would want to cover with Simi Gloss. Flat clear may be a bit to flat. For the bumpers try TS-17 Gloss Aluminum with a Simi Gloss or flat finish depending on how it looks to you.
av405 Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys. I'm definitely getting answers from across the board but options are always good. @espo: What semi gloss would you recommend? I haven't worked with it before.
hooknladderno1 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 For the Ford grille, I like model master "anthracite gray metallic". You can use a semi-gloss or flat over it to dull the finish if desired. Here is a photo: David
