keepitstock Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) Hi all. This is my first post here. I spent my childhood building model cars, and my dad was usually right there with me. Now I'm 43 and after building a Tamiya Sand Scorcher, I'm wanting to start building models again, although after the Sand Scorcher build I think I need some bifocal eyeglasses. Jeez getting old sucks! Anyway, I have an idea for my dads 65 birthday party that will require a lot of classic 1950's to early 1960's car models. They don't need to be super detailed, just a body shell with wheels would be passable. I can't spend $20 plus per car for 50 plus cars and I don't have time to build all those kits! I've looked around the web and no luck so I come to you guys who have been into the scale model scene. Does anyone know where to get 1950's classic car party favor type toys? I've seen some that are made of paper/cardboard but would prefer plastic. And 1/32 1/25 scale or so! Thanks for any leads! Edited March 8, 2015 by keepitstock
cobraman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I haven't done it but try searching automobile or car party favors. Good luck.
randx0 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Welcome back to the hobby . I would check out ebay and probably move down to 1/64 scale or HO scale . Those were the only scales I saw large lots of cars for a reasonable price . I searched diecast and toy car looked for plastic and the vintage yielded more results than modern manufacture . Hope this us helpful and we see a model in progress soon .
sjordan2 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) You might look around for Hallmark classic car Christmas ornaments. It may take a while to get the right price point. http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&q=hallmark+classic+car+christmas+ornaments&gbv=2&sa=X&as_q=&nfpr=&spell=1&ei=N237VK_4AoGANpOMg7AN&ved=0CBIQvwU Here's one with prices that average $10 to $20. http://theornamentqueen.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26_126 My nearest Kroger supermarket keeps a good display of apparently 1:43 diecast cars of all descriptions, somewhere around $8. pharoah Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Hey Chris, you might look at these. They're not plastic, but still pretty cool. http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-ASSORTED-Classic-Cardboard-Cars-Party-Planner-Food-Paper-Serving-Tray-Favor-/370874293134?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5659d49b8e

keepitstock Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Thanks for all the leads so far. What a great community! Randy, looks like I'm getting back in just as Revell is releasing a 1957 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon, sometime this month I guess. I love the old long roofs! So that'll be my first!
Maindrian Pace Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Check out Dimestore Dreams toys on ebay. Generic, but lots of varieties. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Toys-Hobbies-/220/i.html?_armrs=1&_from=R40&_nkw=dimestore%20dreams&_fscr=1
rsxse240 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Why not just print out a bunch of vintage model kit box art and build fake boxes just for effect? Then buy a few real kits for you and pops to put together.

62rebel Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 i'll bet there are a bunch of the AMT "mini" kit box cards that members might send you... i have no use for the ones I have. I did assemble one just for kicks. there were none.
sjordan2 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Kinsmart cars, most around 1/32, some with friction wind-up. Sold in multiple sets, average $5 each. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=kinsmart+diecast+cars
carrucha Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I've seen at CVS drug stores 1/32 1950's and 1960's diecast toy cars for around $5.00 a few years ago.
