Lucas van H Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Hi guys. I had 2 kits left from last Christmas that I haven't been able to build due to how little bench time I have had since then. I've recently aquired a mill and I've been slowly hacking away to get to know the machine. Anyways, I'm going off track. I chose the Challenger because I wanted to do a kit a bit different. I had a couple of 1:24th scale die cast laying around doing nothing, so I decided to strip them and use the parts I could. On this one, I really wanted the wheels and parts of the interior. Also, I'm going to try to fabricate most of the other parts myself. I've already tried my hand at the valvecovers, but I might do those again. Color scheme isn't clear at the moment, but I'd like to make it as flashy as possible but yet keep it as stylish as I can. On to the pictures then: Photo makes the wheels look worse than they really are... Need to mini tub the rear to make them fit Close, but no cigar Now it's looking more like it! Here's how much I had to remove to get those monsters tucked under there More coming up as I get back to work on this. Lucas
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 That rear 3/4 corner shot looks great with the wide meats. These are such good looking, cleanly-designed cars, and really respond well to updates.
Lucas van H Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Thanks Ace! I must say, when I had the tires under it at the mockup, I didn't know for sure if I was going to use these but since the other set I have is too small (diameter and width) for my liking, I went with these.
Lucas van H Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Update time! I really wanted to try my hand at hinging the doors and bootlid, so I started cutting them out. I made a couple of small mistakes that need filling with some putty, but other than that I'm fairly pleased with the results. I still need to clean up the cuts a bit, more on that later. Lucas.
TFchronos Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Cool project, nice work cutting out the doors and trunk.
Lucas van H Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Ok, here's what I've done today. redid the wheelwells, didn't think they looked right. I happened to have some other type of plastic laying around. Also, I cut out the remaining part of the rear seat, and made room for one in the center between the tubs. Still need to fabricate the doorjams, that's for tomorrow. Lucas.
Lucas van H Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Ok, let's see if there's still interest in this one... I've roughed in the trunk floor, sides, wheelwells and mounting place for the air ride tank, still need to find a place to put the compressor though. Also, I've placed a couple of small, thin plastic strips to the underside of the body where the bootlid rests. It needs a whole lot of work before I can go on to the rest of the interior though. Cleanup on the body where I made some mistakes with cutting out the doors and such.
Roadrunner Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 You're far more ambitious than I would be. I'll be looking forward to more.
Brizio Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Looks a fun project. What color you have in mind for it?
Lucas van H Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Brizio, I'm still making up my mind on that, might go red with black stripes or bright green with white stripes. Or I might go with something completely different.
Sixgunner68 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I have the same kit in my stash that my brother-in-law gave me. I'll be interested to see what you do with it!
Lucas van H Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Ok, small update. I'm not able to post my updates directly after I made the photos due to a problem with my network provider, so it's a day late. I wanted to do something different with the hood, but I couldn't get it to fit right in the stock place. I've seen a picture online of a Challenger that had the hoos opening to the front, so I went to work on trying that. It isn't the most beautiful mod I did, especially on the underside but as with all of the things I did, it needs finetuning.
dino246gt Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Great project, looks very cool so far, keep it happening!
Mjs1988 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 cool project man, I'm subscribing to see how thing plays out, I like it so far!
Lucas van H Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Ok guys, just to let you know. I've been asked to build a model for the kid that I look after, his birthday is next month. I'll be working on that one too, so progress on this will be slower, especially since work is taking up most of my time at the moment. I'm not quitting on this, will continue posting updates, but his birthday present has priority for me now. Last but not least, Thank you guys for the great comments! As stated, this is the first time I have cut out doors and boot on one of my models, so your reactions are a boost for me! Lucas.
