More Spoon Tests Of Testors One Coat Lacquers

From the left: Inca Gold, Firey Orange, Revving Red and Blazing Black.

Just like the White Lightning test, One coat of Tamiya white primer, one wet coat of Testors, one wet coat of Tamiya TS-13 Clear.

Revving Red has the least "bass boat" appearance of the foursome. Not sure if I didn't shake the can well enough. But the cap is painted with actual paint and looks the same as my spoon.

I like this stuff and will be purchasing the remaining colors in the line real soon.

Looks like Testors has a hit on their hands with these paints.

I really like the looks of them.

Marc, thanks for this. I love these new colors. I want to do my '60 Vette gasser with the Fiery Orange. I did a couple of spoon tests also.

FYI - I sprayed the Fiery Orange on a bare spoon (no primer) and then hit it with with a wet coat of Tamiya clear about a week later. The clear made the orange run - looking like I poured water on wet paint.

Maybe it was because there was no primer, or maybe it was that the color coat had cured already and I went right to a wet coat of Tamiya and didn't build it up with mist coats. But I'd be leery of applying Tamiya clear over these new paints after they've passed "tacky." Yours look great, so it's obviously doable in one shot.

I just don't want anyone to get burned on a paint job. The best bet is to probably use a Testors lacquer clear to be safe.

Thanks for the tip Matt. I was planning to put a coat of Inca Gold on a project today but had planned to use Tamiya Clear over it. Perhaps I'd better stick to the Testors line for the whole project.

That Revving Red looks like a good match for my 1:1 A100! I can quit looking and build the model, once I find who carries it around here...

Nice! I've got to get some of them. I can already think of several uses for each.

I only use Model Master Lacquer (MML) clear, so there should be no issues there...

Tamiya TS-13 will do this same thing to Tamiya metallics if you're not careful. You have to apply mist coats, let them gas properly between coats to sneak up on the metallics.

I think that on a custom they would look great. But for a guy like me who builds 98% factory stock, the Testors lacquers are just too flakey. I like the bass boat description. I say they look like a 70's Ludwid drum set !

It's a bit frustrating for me, because I honestly thing they are better then Tamiya. I use the gloss Red and Gloss black jar through my airbrush. I have yet to find a better product when thinned with the same brand lacquer thinner.

I have also done a few solid color paint jobs out of the can that came out great.

Just a little disappointing for me.

But then again....I love the MCW paints and they are never too flakey. It's the process of ordering and waiting. I'd love to go to the LHS, grab a can of an "XYZ" metallic color and actually have it look correct (in scale) on the model.

But I do think I'll pick some of that orange for my 49 Merc....

I usually say either 'bass boat' or 'dune buggy' as a flake description, for obvious reasons....

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to seeing if the Testors 'De Ja Blue' will work on my Manx model.
