Recommended Posts

Hey guys well I seen a very interesting vehicle yesterday in one of my hunts for a project vehicle.I was at this guys place and he had this shorten Cadillac it looked like a mid 80's or early 90's model .So my question is would this of been a illegal chopped vehicle or was there a custom fabrication shop that would of done this ? The guy told me there are only 20 cars of this nature in the world true or false ?

These guys?

Global Coach & Armor Mfg. Inc., 3527 Forsythe Rd, Orlando, Florida.

Global specialized in creating convertibles out of Cadillac and Chrysler Corporation coupes.

For 1981 they offered both standard and short-wheelbase Eldorado and Seville convertibles as well as Chrysler Imperial, Cordoba and Dodge Mirada convertibles.

One assumes that they made limousines as well as they have the word "armor" in the firm's title.

For reasons unknown, Global also marketed their cars using a different corporate name, Insbrook Mfg. & Marketing Inc

Grandeur Motor Car Corporation 1405 SW 8th Street Pompano Beach, FL

The Opera Coupe featured a stretched hood and a shortened rear body. Dual simulated side-mounted spare tires were mounted forward of the doors.

Apparently there were several of these "chop shops" that specialized in creating shortened Cadillacs. If your friend says there are only 20 like it in the world, he's lying. One of the companies I looked up made about 250 of them... and that's just one of the companies that did this.

It was a wierd niche trend in the late '70s and early 80s, making strange baroque redos of the '75-79 Seville (and a few of the '80-85 models). I wonder how it started. I've also seen a '77-79 Coupe de Ville made into a convertible in Florida, saw it probably 30 years ago.

Someone around here has an '00-05 DTS that has been made into a 4dr convertible, looks pretty well finished.

Speaking of Cordoba's my dad had a 1975 Cordoba Green on Green. any kits of one out there?

Yes. Lindberg did both the Cordoba and matching Dodge Charger in their 1/32 scale line. These are two of the harder to find ones,

I have to agree with Harry... I love that convertible Seville. That car had great lines, but was only sold as a 4 door sedan so the convertible is pretty cool. Kinda like if Chrysler took the current 300 and did a convertible. I'd be so all over that!

The other ones... I cannot imagine anyone buying any one of those!
