In Topic: Handy containers

If you have a "gourmet dog", those lil plastic containers their food comes in work well for all kinds of stuff. I also use Hillshire Farms deli meat containers for storage and stripping smaller parts. I also like to organize my spare parts in ziploc bags then store them in a shoebox sized tote.

That's great advice John and I'm REALLY glad that I had quit 28 years ago.

Good deal, Nick. I also quit from 1982 to 1999, then went back to my "crutch" when I was going through my 1st divorce and the passing of my Dad right in the middle of it all.

My main hobby is woodworking, then fishing, followed by listening to good rock and roll. Unfortunately I am finding I can't do the first two too much anymore, thus my re-emergence into modeling. Yrs of beating the hell out of my lungs is taking its' toll. Can't do the things I loved doing.

advice to others: if you don't smoke, don't ever start. If you do smoke, quit now! Don't wait til you can't breathe anymore.

My Dr. said I had to listen to something different. Last time I did the head bangin thing, I ended up in traction for 4 months. Into more mellow stuff these days, especially Floyd, Zeppelin...late 60's to mid70's R&R

In Topic: How much $ do you put in a kit?

13 April 2013 - 06:18 AM

I haven't actually built a kit yet, but have a small stash of 40 kits and a few boxes of junkyard parts I got on Ebay. All tolled, probably $5-600 tied up so far, including tools and finishing supplies.  When I do finally get back to building, I plan to do box stock builds at first and go from there.

Now, my primary hobby is another story. Being a woodworker/cabinetmaker, I have acquired quite an arsenal over the past 35 yrs. I probably have at least $10k in tools, accessories and supplies along with another $6-7K in lumber inventory. Now, mind you, if I was a pro, these figures could easily triple.
