  1. Hey everyone! I’m an alum of Cranfield University where I dived deep into Supply Chain Management. But here’s the twist – I’ve got this soft spot for cars and aerospace. Weird combo, right? Well, it’s exactly this mix that sparked something pretty neat. After playing around with a ton of smoke types and exhaust fans, and sweating the small stuff in between, I’ve finally got my demo off the ground. It’s a desktop wind tunnel for diecast cars. Pretty nifty, huh? I’m thinking it could really add some zing to our collections. I’d love to get your take on this. Ever seen anything like it? Or maybe tried your hand at something similar? I’ll be sharing more about my plans over in Diecast Corner soon, and I’m all for digging into this garage talk together. Guess posting in Diecast Corner is the way to go, right? Thanks a ton for letting me share. Can’t wait to hear what you think! 20240313-001.mp4
  2. Over time I'll be posting my pictures of gas stations and garages, etc. Here's one from western Massachusetts (Belchertown). B&W pictures are from 1992, while the color ones are from 1999. UPDATE: I have come across a recent picture showing the present condition of the structure. While it does still stand today, it has been much modified. I was unaware of this configuration, as I had not seen the building since 1999. I have added this image, from the historical building archive of the state of Massachusetts known as MACRIS. According to the historical survey, this one originally dated to around 1939, and was an ESSO station.
  3. One of me favourite YouTube programmes is Vice Grip Garage. I've been a fan since the first 'rescue' I watched which he revived (1968 Malibu two door) around two years ago. His latest project is a 1982 C10 long bed (he loves the so-called Square Body Chevy & GMC pickups [1973-1987 vintage], and has quite a few of them). The catch? He's swapping in a 354 (5,7 litre) Hemi from a police Charger, backed by a 46RE (formerly, A-518, which is an overdrive-equipped A-727) -- hence, the nomenclature of Hemi-Half; a play on Chevy's Heavy-Half and Hemi engine. This is the 3rd installment in this project; follow links to the preceding two installments (I recommend watching all of his 'rescues'). I really like that Derek involves his wife and sons in his projects (on their volition). Enjoy!
  4. Because I enjoyed the movie so much, It was a natural for me to build a diorama based on it. Dom's garage was only shown in the first movie & was featured in 4 scenes, for a total of only 60-70 seconds. But I thought I could manage it, if I used common sense & my imagination to fill in what I could not see in the film. Right off the top, because I had a few big empty spaces in some basement shelving, I figured to make a large display. Measures 2' wide, 14" deep and 13" tall. Walls and base are foam board. Found the brick wall paper on line. Once the walls and ceiling were done, I started out with the stairs and loft. as that looked as the most difficult. I took my time . The stair treads, risers & railing are exactly as the stairs going to my basement in 1/24th scale. All of it is made of wood as is the shelves and walls of Dom's office. I used strips of small LED lights on the underside of the loft, just as I did on the ceiling. Some things were easy to put in the right place as per the film. The board on the wall holding the fan belts (tiny rubber bands) went to the left of the overhead door. along with a work bench. I've posted a screen grab from the film to illustrate that. On the right side of the opening, as was shown in the film, there is what appears to be a school locker & an old refrigerator (thanx ebay). Behind that stuff, & under the loft, was a bunch of equipment, including an engine hoist which was standing on it's end. I didn't repeat that error. The car is a die cast. I had bought a model charger, but only to use the blown Hemi & 383 Magnum engines, tires and wheels. Dom's office was briefly shown in the film. I guessed that it would be at the back of the shop. Sharp eyed viewers will note the sofa made out of the back seat of the donor charger. Dom and his girlfriend, Lettie, were shown in a short scene sharing an intimate moment on it. I stocked the shelves with boxes & crates made of small blocks of wood. The lights are nice & bright. I had to turn them off to take some of the pics. Taking advantage of that, on top of the shelves I've placed some chrome parts left over from various model builds & a couple small pieces of metal, to reflect the light, to sparkle , making it more interesting for viewers. At least a couple people have commented on it. Thanks for looking, it was a fun project. Questions & suggestions welcome.
  5. Hello everyone! New to the forum and new to the diorama hobby! I’ve been into RC cars, car models and the scale realism of them since I was a young boy, and now I’ve decided to take things a bit further with building a ‘somewhat’ 1/10 scale garage! I say somewhat because I didn’t try to scale everything to 1/10 but did the best I could with materials I could find around the house and things bought inexpensively from a hardware store. The entire thing is mostly made of wood and some vinyl stickers. Hoping to learn more as time goes by, like how to make realistic looking concrete and bricks instead of just using stickers! I’m posting this in the finished dioramas, but I keep thinking of more I can do to it lol, can’t slow down a creative mind! Will post more pics as I add more!! Thanks for looking!!! greg
  6. I have been trying to finish a project that has taken seven months so far. However, this little garbage can keeps popping up. I'll wake up from sleeping and this thing will start building itself in my head, so I threw it together to shut everybody up. It seems most of my creations begin as these menacing visions... This was all I was able to capture before the winds of change drifted through and now I'm on to the next for now, but this isn't complete. It needs something, and for now that is some time to breathe. My future plans are to build a couple dios. Specifically a custom car garage and a Junkyard dio. I have quite a few parts and pieces from kits out of the 90's and Oughts... Enjoy, I'll be back to finish in the future. I am curious to know what other common household items you all are turning into 1/25 scale stuff, feel free to leave suggestions! I felt like I came to this idea organically, although I am sure this has been done before. joined_video_da1e4c5a18364f60a067c3e4673e119d.MP4 joined_video_d28a18c80e854869b344e51e64c56527.mov
  7. I missed doing dioramas and have limited space in my retirement home, but I started this one. I'll keep y'all posted as I add details:
  8. A friend asked me to build him a Dyno tester to display a funny car he is building. He wanted it to show it being tested as if he was working on the motor. I am not quite done as there is no sending units for which the computer can take readings from. They are outside drying and will be installed tomorrow. Then I will be able to connect the wire from the lap top. Any thoughts ? I also have to touch up the black and yellow caution paint as I had a little trouble with the tape lines. No biggie !
  9. Hi everyone again, This project was all done in the scale of 1:12. After buying the bike model I've decided to build the structure around it to match the bike. This diorama was my first attempt to make this kind of art. Also this was a gift I have made for a good friend of mine, who owns the actual 1:1 scale bike. http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/20110619_014_900.jpg http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2827_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2828_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2839_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2865_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2885_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2886_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2887_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2889_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2895_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2882_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2845_900.JPG http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/122674/1599743/IMG_2829_900.JPG
  10. This is a new diorama that I built for photographing models. The first diorama that I built was nothing more than foam core with brown paper glued to it and lines applied to look like brick. After that wore out I built one mae from 3/4 inch wood with brick Plastruct for the walls and tile for the floors. It contained large amounts of boring and was about as convincing as me entering a beauty pageant. I've spent years with people telling me to clean, clean, clean. While I was building this all I heard was dirty, dirty, dirty. If it gets any worse it will get condemned. I have a shelf for it in my model room that sets it at eye height when sitting. This is perfect for placing the camera on the tripod to take photos.
  11. Welcome to Flannery's, we may not fix your problem, but sure can make sure no one else can. This is a Tamiya CB750F in 1/12 scale, very fun build, some race parts were included, not quite up to the factory race bike Wayne Gardner standard. Enjoy
  12. This Jaguar is from Revell of Germany, great model, There are bits and bobs from everywhere.
  13. Started on my garage the other night. Trying to get it as close as I can to my really garage. I'll continue posting updates as I work on it. Garage is a metal sided pole barn, with a metal roof, and insulted plywood walls on the inside. Has a 12' x 12' main door, a 10' x 10' side door and a metal walk-in door. Any advise or help is more then welcomed.
