bobthehobbyguy Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Ivwas looking to use the 32 ford chassis under the revell 1929 roadster pickup body. The roadster pickup body is quite a bit wider the the chassis. Is the roadster body narrower than the pickup?
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) A '29 Ford body, roadster or pickup, is significantly narrower than the stock '32 frame rails. However, '29 fords in every description imaginable have been built on '32 rails. You just have to narrow the rails a suitable amount...in 1:1 and in the model world. The Revell rails you refer to are too wide to look right under the old AMT '29 Ford body too. Here, they've been narrowed. by removing meat from the ends of the crossmembers and re-gluing. You'll have to narrow them even more of you want to channel the body. Edited June 6, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 No the revell roadster pickup body is a lot wider than the 32 chassis. Since it both are 25th scale I suspect the roadster pickup body might be wrong.

Ace-Garageguy Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) This one and its derivatives are correct, and is what I assumed you have. I just checked it against the frame you refer to above, and the body is slightly narrower at the firewall than the frame rails are. Edited June 6, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) This is an entirely different kit and shares none of the tooling with the correct 1/25 scale kits shown above. Edited June 6, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Muncie Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 (edited) The answer in the model car word is - "it depends..." There is probably some variation between the different ''29 roadster pickup bodies and the '32 Ford frames in our model car world. In full size, the internet shows the same reproduction firewall for all 28-29model A' - cars and pickups.I have a highboy 29 roadster pickup started with the Revell roadster pickup body - a reissue of the kit in Bill's picture - on the '32 frame in the recent Revell '29 roadster. All is going well with a little mismatch at the cowl -same for both the roadster and the pickup body. This mismatch is what you would have with a 28-29 body on a 32 frame in full size. Should be the same if you are using any a frame from any of the recent Revell '32 ford frames because they are the same shape when I checked them.In full size, there are several modifications that can be made - narrowing the crossmembers is one way - not worrying about it is another if the mismatch is not bothersome - Wescott also has a dimensioned diagram on their web page to pinch the '32 frame at the cowl so it follows the curve of the body - http://www.wescottsauto.com/WebCatalog/Tech/FrameDiagram1929Hiboy.pdf Edited June 6, 2016 by Muncie
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 First I was talking about the old Revell 1929 Roadstervpickup and coosed cab which is 25th scale.Second the chassis is from the new Revell 1929 roadster kit(1932 ford chassis). Now for the strange part. When I did the comoarison last week the pickup body was wider the chassis. I pulled out the kits to shoot a picture and there is no issue, I guess in this reality there is no issue. Will proceed with putting the chassis and pickup body together.
Art Anderson Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Something to consider here: After studying the new Revell '29 A roadster on Deuce rails, I believe that on this model, Revell worked from an aftermarket '29 Roadster body, which itself may be wider than what Ford produced in 1929. The old Revell '29 A pickup kit bodies (both roadster and closed cab, are actually quite accurately scaled from stock vehicles.Art

Jantrix Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Bob, I just did the very project you are talking about. I used the channeled frame from the 29 roadster kit. The RPU works with just a little bit of help. I also cut down the roadster floor pan to fit. Here's the whole build if your interested. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/29 RPU rat rod?sort=3&page=1
