iamsuperdan Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Starting a new one. Something a little different. Old school Mercedes G-Wagen from ESCI. I really like these old ESCI kits for some reason. Unfortunately the EBay pricing is insane on most of these. But every now and then, you can find them for a steal. Which is what happened with this a couple of years ago! The kit itself was factory sealed. Upon opening, everything was there, as expected. The brown plastic seems to be a little more brittle than the black, as quite a few of the brown pieces had come off the sprues. No damage though. no warping or damage to the body or any other pieces. Decals haven't even yellowed yet, so we'll see how they work out.

martinfan5 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Been wanting to get another one of these kits, played with one when I was teen, it was the fire version.
gatorincebu Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 That is a cool kit. I would really like to get one . I will be following this thread to see what you do with it. Be Well Gator
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 What direction are you going to take with this? I was able to find a complete and unopened one on ebay for a very low price a few years ago. Been working on it off and on trying to make it a G55 AMG.
iamsuperdan Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 I absolutely HATE the new G-Wagens. Street tires and low hanging exhausts? Catering to the soccer mom, trophy wife, and sad old men crowd? No thanks. Mercedes should keep the G-Wagen as a real off road machine, and leave the other half dozen SUV models in their lineup for the street driving folk. Maybe that's just me though. Will be building this one as bone stock truck. Manual transmission, steel wheels, no leather...as it should be. I have two of these kits, may build the second one to be slightly modified. Lift, racks, etc.
Rob Hall Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Neat kit...is this the same tooling that has been released by Revell of Germany in various forms over the years? I'd like to see a modern AMG version tooled up..

iamsuperdan Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Got some primer on the body. And then managed to shoot some colour. No sanding or clear on there yet. Got some colour on the interior pieces too.
