skid896 Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Could not resist an attempt at a big US truck, albeit in a small scale. Bit of a fiddly kit as it was a snap fit one and I found myself snapping a few parts, including the front left wheel which now sits too far in but it was a first tryout. I have another 1/24 Peterbilt, and a 1/16 for a rainy day. The 1/16 is a mega sized kit and I want to hone my skills before trying to do that one justice. Found the decals a challenge, getting them to be symmetrical but it worked out okay in the end. I am really interested in building a Convoy themed Mack or Mad max one, has anyone built those on the forum and have some advice/photos. The Peterbilt from Duel would be an interesting one as well. I think you could actually buy a Convoy themed kit at one time, I seem to remember seeing one on ebay a while ago for a princely sum.
DrKerry Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Looks really nice!!!!! I always liked those 32nd scale kits growing up!!!!!! Like it a lot!!!!!!
towman1271 Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Nice build.. If you are interested in the Convoy mack.... Don't buy the actual kit you have seen on ebay.. it is expensive & is no where near accurate.. they only pieces usable in it are the bull bar on front & the air shield.. The best way to go is a resin kit from AITM.. It is a complete kit with all you need.. Its a little pricey too, but will be cheaper in the long run.. The pics below are of the unbuilt kit & the one I built.. Goes together real nice!
skid896 Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 Kerry, Dave thanks for the replies it is appreciated. Dave you are right that kit is not cheap but looking at your build it turns out really well. Do you find the resin kits tend to be a bit more fragile or robust? I have never used it but am keen to give it a go at some point when I can siphon off enough cash without Missus S noticing.

The big thing with resin is to soak it in water with dish liquid to remove the film.. This kit is very sturdy and goes together easily.. The only downfall is that the hood & cab are on piece, so no engine display! I made a few changes to my build.. I used another set of resin wheels with tires from an atm kit, and also made longer fuel tanks that were on the truck that is seen the most in the movie!.. Angelo & Ben have good ideas also.. Aitm also makes a R700 cab in 1/32 scale & there are 2 hole wheels on ebay.. The only thing would be making the correct sleeper & bulbar.. Edited December 2, 2017 by towman1271
kilrathy10 Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Good job on your 1st big rig kit....I looks very nice....The decals came out pretty good....I like the overall appearance....
unclescott58 Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I too like those old Monogram, now Revell 1/32 scale trucks. As yours Paul show, they build in to very nice looking trucks. Good job.
skid896 Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Thanks for the updates guys. Ben I looked at the build so far, not an easy project, how are you getting on with it now?
skid896 Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Dave, did you do a topic of your build that I can look at?
