tbill Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 So, this has been rattling around for what seems like forever. I built the frame and engine, then built the body, chose a color, and painted the thing. Well, that’s where things went off the rails, haha. The cab and hood came out nice, but the hauler body turned into a train wreck. So, in the pond it went, for about 8 months. Couldn’t get all the primer off of it, and what was left had fish eyes and all sorts of funny looking spots on it. So I let it soak more, and at one point decided to toss the cab and hood in as well. So, not too long ago I decided to pull it out of the pond and asses the situation. Cab and hood were clean, hauler body still a train wreck. What to do I asked myself? After some thought, I figured, let’s try some ‘stuff’ I haven’t tried yet. Broke out the tamiya powders and had at it. So far, I like it, but it’s a work in progress. Still need to dirty up the hood and wheels/tires, but I putter with it in between stuff. Here are some mock up pics of where it’s at ( cab/hood is just tossed on to complete the look as it were)
Jim B Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Should be an interesting project. If you only had a race car to put on the back.
tbill Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Funny you say that ( our earlier conversation aside), I’m thinking of doing one of the AMT ‘old pro’ nova kits in flat black and putting it on the back of this eventually. Want the whole build to look like a shoe string budget race set up when done.
tbill Posted September 29, 2019 Author Posted September 29, 2019 So, puttered with this a little today, did some dash work, got my mismatched seats painted and chromed up some window cranks and door handles ( replicas and miniatures items), still a lot to do on this ‘project’.
Sam I Am Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 So, Tom.....just how many builds do you have going right now? ? Love the hauler. ?
tbill Posted September 30, 2019 Author Posted September 30, 2019 Thanks guys. Sam, currently have 10 projects going, all in various stages of work. More than I like to have going on, but it’s good to have other stuff to do while paint or primer or glue is drying .......
gotnitro? Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Wow that's a cool setup ! Definitely has that small budget look ya see around the local tracks ! Those window cranks are super nice
tbill Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Well, have decided to finish this finally, been chipping away at it, but now bench is clean ( no, I actually cleaned the bench ), so I am committed to getting this done. Interior pic was taken a bit ago, second pic is the rig actually physically on the bench....., need to finish it for a show on November 24. Edited November 3, 2019 by tbill Added info
tbill Posted November 5, 2019 Author Posted November 5, 2019 Slow progress, got tanks mounted, windshield gasket painted and some work on the hood.
Sam I Am Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Ohhhhh yeah! Really looking the part. Only that 57 gasser is way to shiney for that truck. ?
gotnitro? Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Glad you decided to finish this build Tom ! Really looking the part now
tbill Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Gotta build the mirrors, after that, calling it done.....
tbill Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 Next pics will be under glass ( provided the sun comes out)
Hermann Kersten Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Very nice and distinctive. I really like it. Hermann.
