Wheel/tire combo question

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to the forum. The name is Bo. Hoping to become fairly active here on the forum as I do not do standard "social media" or youtube...

I've been building for most of my life off and on, and I'm finally getting the results I want... enough rambling though, and on to the question.

I've got a couple projects I'm doing up as Trans Am racers.

I have a 69 Camaro and a 69 Mustang

I'm thinking Minilites for the Mustang and Tourque thrust Ds for the Camaro

The torque thrusts shouldn't be hard to source, I have the amt 61 impala kit I could rob some from as they seem a good match.

The minilites though, I am at a total loss...

As far as tires, I'm in need of the proper good year rubber in the staggered configuration.

Anyone know where I could get these items, I would really appreciate any help!

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum. I also like the Minilite wheels that used to be so popular during the late '60's in SCCA Trans Am racing. While I can't find them now, I have picked up the AMT '70 or '71 Mustang kits. These had some very nice wheels and are supposed to be 15" wheels but look more like 14".  64SS350 mentioned the newer Camaro kit and that might be easier to find at this time. As for Fireball Motorworks parts, these are going to be about the best you can find.

Those definitely fit the bill! Did you get the tires, from fireball as well? If so, looks like a one stop shop for me!

Thanks, and that Cuda looks awsome!

Glad you like the 'Cuda. No the tires came from the parts box but have been included in many Revellogram kits.  The racing Corvettes and Cobras kits come to mind that included them.

Here is the 'Cuda finished.

Fireball also offers an excellent set of 13" Minilites for the U2 cars that competed in Trans-Am and other racing series.

Yea the cuda looks fantastic, I may like the little ford even better though... I used to have a 1:1 lol... fun car! Had the little cosworth engine.

That's a good gouge on those kits... as I may have an old Cobra kit, I'll have to check and see what rubber is inside.

Gonna try and order some wheels this afternoon.

Thanks again, and great looking models!

Holy smokes... that one Esci kit will take a day or two!!

Good news is, I was scrounging around through the stash and found a set of tires that may just work inside the old MPC 72 GTO kit...

The rears are the Goodyear  bluestreak "stock car specials" and the fronts are simply goodyears...  so I'd say after sanding the tread down to get more of a slick they should look nice.

I emailed fireball, so waiting to hear back on the minilites and some sweet Holley double pumpers.

You've got me excited now. I want to see that esci escort "under glass" or at least on the bench... get it going!

Yes they do come with nice tires.  They are a little large for a 1/25 scale build.  Here they are on my 'Cuda project.

They give that thing a pretty menacing stance...

Here's to hoping that fireball actually emails me back, unlike a few others that never have.

I'll probably just order 2 sets just to get the tires.

The set I found yesterday, only the rear tires will work, so i still need fronts... so may as well just get 2 whole sets.

Btw what is the blue paint on that Cuda?  Looks like this

That was a MANY year old can of testors enamel "Racing Blue" IIr?

Didn't wanna drag my airbrush to the garage at that time, so decided to gamble.... No pressure and Orange peel city as you can see! Never another testors rattle can, even though I literally have over a thousand unused cans of the stuff!!

But it cut/buffed out pretty nicely in the end.

Joseph will, he's good about that. He may not get back right away, but I've always gotten a response back from him within a couple days. He's also a member here, Chief Joseph.

Tamiya TS-44 Brilliant Blue

That's a good color on that car for sure!

I bought a bulk lot of Testors (model master) paints... like a TON of it... for a good price. So, I usually just decant when needed if I do not have a bottled color. I haven't used tamiya much because its not readily available unless I drive to the next county.

That's cool, I've had 2 less than good experiences in the past but then again tracking down certain items in our hobby can be a real challenge sometimes.
