carsntrucks4you Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) Here the next car for our weekly auto quiz. As usual sent a PM with Year, Make and Type. Special thanks goes to blunc for this idea Edited June 20, 2020 by carsntrucks4you
DonW Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Studebaker Hawk meets Daimler Dart. I doubt it. I haven't got a clue but I'm looking forward to finding out what it is!

Hotrod 97 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Hmm...looks so familiar, like I've seen one of these at a car show or somethin'. Looks cool. Not quite sure what it is.
carsntrucks4you Posted June 27, 2020 Author Posted June 27, 2020 (edited) This weeks car of the autoquiz was a 1958 Alken D2. It is based in a Beetle chassis and uses the beetle engine. Some were replaced by a Porsche 356 engine. About 25 were build. The correct answer were sent in by the following members: Pete J. porschercr Ace-Garageguy dw1603 GeeBee Well done, congratulations Edited June 27, 2020 by carsntrucks4you
DonW Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 It does look like a very professional effort, and one I'd never heard of. Thanks Michael and Blunc for the suggestion.
dw1603 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 (edited) I thought it was the work of Dutch Darrin, he did the Flintridge Darrin which was Auto Union based. He was also also commissioned to design a prototype for the Dyna Panhard, which was very similar to this. If you screw you eyes up a bit, it is reminiscent of the Kaiser Darrin too. Once again, I wasted a lot of time on a wild goose chase searching for a “Darrin Porsche” which does not exist, but eventually chanced on the Alken D2. Lucky me! sjordan2 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 The wheels, front bumper, seat and steering wheel seemed to me like a Porsche 356, but I couldn't find this one.
DonW Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Kaiser Darrin! I see the connection. Acquired tastes, both!

dw1603 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Not really obvious from the image but the Alken D2 has suicide doors too. Apropos of nothing.
Pete J. Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 For me it was the rims and steering wheel that gave it away. Definitely one of the 356 based models . Took me far less time that I thought it would
