70 Chevelle

I picked up these 2 at a garage sale recently. The GTO is such a poor kit I’m going to just use it for parts (not many good ones of those)

So while I’ve been waiting on the Dart, I thought I’d take a break from building my 1:1s and work on the Chevelle.
It’s not a bad kit from what I can tell and has some possibilities.
I set the stance where I wanted it and got busy with my favorite part… the power.
Thanks for looking and please give comments.
Dave

Got the chassis painted and the drivetrain installed. This kit didn’t come with shocks and I didn’t have any so I made a couple. They don’t mount on the  rear ended like stock but they’ll do. Ran the rear brake lines and the rear section of the fuel line ran, I’m not going to do a return fuel line and I used brass rod for the brake line above the rear ended because I had installed the differential first and the brass was easier to work with in the limited space. Figured out a way to run disks up front. I drilled op through the floor pan to try and simulate the fuel and brake lines running through one of the cross members.
I’ve had the body painted with Testors flake green and went to try and rub it out and noticed one door was darker than the rest of the body… don’t know why unless I got a thicker coat right there but weird that it was only on a door. Anyway, I sanded it with 800 the 1500 and resprayed it, will see if it turns out, Luther wise I guess it’s going in the pond.
Thanks for looking.

I used just a polish on the paint and think it looks okay.
Got the foil on the window trim and door handles and set the body on top of the chassis… didn’t want to place it all the way down yet but it gives an idea of the finished look.
I’ve been kicking around trying to use the white stripe decals that came with the kit, I really like that look but I don’t know if I want to risk messing up the paint.
Thoughts?

Dave.

This is a great looking build and very cleanly done. The mention of the factory stripes brings one thing to mind. The kits decals look good, but the white doesn't always cover well over this dark of a color.  I suggest getting a second set of stripe decals. Using two layers of decals should prevent any green showing thru. Had this same problem on a build even with a lighter body color.

This was a great project, I thought the kits details were good and assembly went better than my others.
The interior started really good but I used a satin clear on it and some of the black wrinkled.
I used a Testors rattle can on it and I won’t be using anything from the hardware store on my bodies again, Testors or Tamiya until I can afford an airbrush… yes I’m hooked and have so many ideas for projects that I’m afraid my wife is going to kill me.
Well thanks for looking and the comments, now I’m off to the GTX.

Looks VERY nice, but a couple of details stick out to me , probably just oversights from the excitement of finishing up! One; a drop of flat dark gray or black inside the exhaust tips would look a bit more real, and two: foil or Molotow on the gutters. Other than that, you've built a beautiful Chevelle, one to be proud of.

You’re right, I forgot the exhaust tips and the gutters do need to be done.
