StevenGuthmiller Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Just a little tip that many of you might already use that I learned over the course of my modeling career. Do all of your small engine and chassis detail painting, (ie. bolt heads, attached parts of a different color, etc) and then spray a coat of appropriate clear over the top of the entire piece afterwards. This protects all of those brush painted details from wearing off from handling as you continue to detail/assemble. And of course it's beneficial to apply any decals prior to a clear coat to prevent damage as well. Steve 4
dragstk Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Thats a tip that I have known for a while but for some reason, forget to do it. Thanks for the reminder. ?
ctruss53 Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I just want to be able to put that kind of detail into a build.

Rattlecan Dan Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Glad I took the time to read this. Thanks a lot Steve.
iamsuperdan Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 You're right! Clearcoating some of those parts that normally wouldn't get cleared definitely helps keep those details safe! I also find using a matte clear gives engine bays a little more realism, as not everything is always shiny under there.

In many cases, I'll use flat paints for a lot of the base colors and details. That way, a coat of Testors clear gloss lacquer will give the parts a nice matte finish. Sort of killing two birds with one stone. Steve 1
