  1. Mike, the paint is Tamiya Orange and Dupli-Color Ebony black. Cleared with Krylon Clear Lacquer. All three in rattle cans.
  2. Thanks, Dan! Yes, weather is great and hopefully I can get a few more bodies painted. This one in Orange and Black is my Halloween Special! Not much rubbing will be needed on this one.
  3. Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your compliment! I finished 1/2 of the paint on the current Willys. Here are a couple of photos.
  4. Thanks, Dominick, Carl, Mike, Bill, and Thomas! I appreciate the comments! The next body to be painted is the 42 Willys Street Rod. I have built this one before with an Aqua enamel airbrushed, frenched headlights and taillights, white interior. Took a first place a few years ago. So this one I think I will paint like the box art with Tamiya orange and Dupli-Color black. The body is in good shape with only minimal sanding for a couple of mold lines around the taillights. Also eliminated the license plate marking on the trunk. I'll get started on paint tomorrow and maybe finish the Monte Carlo. Thanks for looking! ?
  5. I'm on the mend and finished the engine bay. In addition I am painting some bodies as the weather here is very nice at the moment. I painted the 69 Olds W-30 Dupli-Color bright red and the 57 Chevy Sedan is Testors Diamond Dust and Dupli-Color Ebony Black. I wanted to do an unconventional two-tone on the 57 and have used this color combination on a 55 Chevy as well. You may notice in the last photo that I forgot about the mold lines on the B pillars and obviously didn't see it. I am going to choose to ignore it as I am out of paint now. Thanks for looking! ?
  6. Thanks, Carl! I am just going to finish this one as is once I get over this cold. Haven't been feeling like doing anything for the last 4 days so maybe I'll get back to it in the next few days. But it will just be a shelf sitter since I don't like the color and with the broken windshield it will not make it to a contest table. Thanks again for your offer.
  7. Thanks, Carl, Dan, and Bill! I appreciate your comments! Well, I've built this one before but don't remember having this much trouble with it. I wanted to change out the tires but the B F Goodrich tires were too small for it. I ended up using the kit tires and added some decal whitewalls from the stash. Also the frame doesn't really match up with the body and some clamp work was necessary. There should be a law against having to use this much force to assemble a model. I also thought the too thick glass surround on the cowl was giving me a problem with the dash so I tried to eliminate the extra clear plastic. Unfortunately, I cracked the windshield. I have another kit of this one and thought about using the glass but that would just ruin another kit so I left the cracked windshield as is. I guess I will have to call Safelite. Even after clamping, the front end sat too high for me so I repositioned the axle pins on the kingpins. I did manage to avoid one issue by mounting the bottom of the fan shroud after the body was glued on. That way I didn't knock off the fan assembly. I guess it doesn't look too bad on wheels if you ignore the cracked windshield. Here are some pics of the whole sordid mess. Thanks for looking! ?
  8. Finished the interior. I have some aftermarket decals for gauges that I used. Painted the dash, steering wheel, and console with a brown wood color. Foiled the edges of the gauge panel and doors and used a chrome pen for other detail. Thanks for looking! ?
  9. Looks good, Dan! Save for the contest in April! See you there! BTW, I have two Fast and Furious kits of this 1970 with the blown engine. But I also have a 68 bagged charger with extra hoods without the cut-out for the blown engine. They fit perfectly!
  10. Thanks, Dan! I finished the foil, painted the inner fenders and cowl. I painted aluminum on top of the cowl and foiled the edge and wipers. Touched up the two fender edges. I've also posted photos of the basic interior. Re-painted the interior with Krylon Italian Olive which is a little lighter than the Tamiya Dark Green. Painted the dash and floor with the Dark Green. Oops, the console is in the wrong position but you get the idea. Thanks for looking! ?
  11. Thanks, Carl! Its starting to grow on me! Rubbed out the body today and I have a couple of edges to touch-up but its coming along. Added the first pieces of foil so that process has started. The color kinda looks like the dull colors of today's automobiles. Thanks for looking!
  12. Thanks, Mike, Carl and David1 I appreciate your comments! Today I painted all the parts, including the body. I also foiled the tiny Monte Carlo scripts and was pretty successful in revealing the foil beneath the paint. But the color looked much darker outside and the can top is a very dark green, almost black. But in my mag light it looks pea green. I had to change the color of the interior pieces to match as the Hunter Green won't work. But the finish is nice and with two coats of paint and two coats of clear so I am going with it. I'll rub it out in the morning. Thanks for looking! ?
  13. My new WIP is this AMT kit molded in beautiful green plastic! So the hood looked like it was a little warped so I tried to tweak it a little - then snap! So a couple of hours later I had it glued back together, puttied and sanded out. Looks pretty good but it doesn't sit any better. It gave me something to work on as a storm rolled in. So tomorrow I'll try to get some paint on it once it dries up. Planning on painting it Tamiya Dark Green. Thanks for looking! ?
  14. This Revell kit was a bagged kit I got for free that was missing wire mesh and decals. I had some wire mesh so I could use it and I haven't purchased any decals for it yet. Painted Tamiya Italian Red with various shades of black and silver for the rest of the parts. Engine and chassis assembly was a chore, screens were tedious, but the body went together pretty well. Thanks for looking! ?
  15. Thanks, Dan, Joe, Carl and David! I appreciate your comments!
  16. Thanks, MrMike! I appreciate your comment! This one is done - without decals for now. The engine/chassis construction was a chore, the wire mesh screens were tedious, but the body went together well and fit on the chassis pretty well. Deck lid goes up and down easily and looks OK in the closed position but the photo it doesn't look as good. I noticed that one of the tailpipe extensions is on backwards but I have since fixed that. Overall, it turned out better than I would have thought when I started. Thanks for looking! ?
  17. Paint and decals looking great, Dan! ? ?
  18. Here's how I do the black trim on windows, Carl. I use the King Size Sharpie method that was a feature of an article in the old Scale Auto mag. The large Sharpie allows a generous ink flow to allow coverage without multiple strokes which might cause matting as would painting with acrylic paint. Any bleed-throughs or rough edges are cleaned up with a wet toothpick and cotton swabs. I've installed about half the screen material and its coming along pretty well. Here are a few photos.
  19. Thanks, Carl! I re-painted the sides earlier today and then cleared the entire body and related parts. I've spent the afternoon rubbing it out for the third time. Now it looks satisfactory to me and I can now finish the black trim and move on to final assembly. Nothing is glued on yet. Thanks for looking! ?
  20. Thanks, Carl and Mike! I appreciate your comments! I got another two coats of clear on it and rubbed it out again. Starting to look OK but I want to add some more paint to the sides where I rubbed out a couple of edges. Still a few spots that are hard to get to with all the cut-outs. Then I can move on to the black window trim. Here are a couple of photos. Thanks for looking! ?
  21. Thanks, Carl! You won't have to be curious anymore, except for the fact that I don't have any decals I'll try to get this one together the best I can. Finished the engine, engine bay, front and rear suspensions and the interior. I finished all the painting over the weekend which was a good thing as it has been raining for the past two days. I still want to get another coat of clear on the body but will have to wait until the weather improves. But we really need the rain. Each piece of this build has been a real PITA. Every glue joint has pins to be cleaned and holes to be widened. The headers coming off the engine are a real pain to get together. Since I didn't have any decals I found a couple of gauges that would fit in the dash and then just painted the left side with some silver and black and called good. You can't really see them anyway. Pretty low key interior but I did manage to paint the seat belts molded on the seats. The air induction was painted with gunmetal and the aluminum engine and suspension parts were blackwashed. The Ferrari lettering on the valve covers was foiled and the horse on the top of the air induction is chrome pen. Not much to finish, just wheels and tires, windows and assembly. Maybe I'll get a chance tomorrow to clear the body again. Thanks for looking! ?
  22. Thanks again, everyone, for your comments! ?
  23. I'm not big on Foreign or Exotic cars but I got this bagged kit thrown in on a larger purchase of kits so I might as well build it. Its missing the screen material and decals. I have some screen material that I bought years ago so I can use that. I may buy decals for it. But first, lets see if I can get it together. I painted the body and related parts with Tamiya Italian Red and two coats of clear. I rubbed it out and then had to touch-up parts of the body. I will add additional clear coats but its been pretty humid lately due to rain and its fixin' to rain again tonight. I the meantime, I am going to sort out the individually wrapped parts, clean up the sprue attachments and sort them in color piles. Thanks for looking! ?
  24. Thanks, everyone, for your very kind comments! You can look at my WIP for more detail on this build, including my confusion on the chassis and the interior detail. Years of building have convinced me that the three most important skills for any auto build are painting, foil, and clean assembly. You can add cottage industry details like plug wires, etc. but it will not substitute for the three most important skills. I am still working on all three, especially painting. Thanks again, and thanks for looking! ?
  25. This one is done! Tamiya Pearl Light Green with a Krylon Ivory top. Interior is Krylon Hunter Green and Ivory. Nice kit with positive pin and locator holes. The instructions for the chassis are a bit confusing as they are portrayed right side up which means right is left and left is right when you build the chassis downside up. Other than that it is a very nice kit! Lots of chrome aned lots of foil. Thanks for looking! ?
