  1. Beautiful day to paint today; not too hot, not too cold. A little windy but I've built a windbreak on my patio and paint when there is a lull. So, today I painted one of my favorite Revell subjects, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. Only had a little more than half a can of Hemi Orange (same as Tor-Red) so I gave the body and related parts one session of painting, two coats back and forth on each unpainted surface and it covered well! Then I added two sessions of Krylon clear lacquer using the same method. Everything worked out great! I'll only have to rub it out a little and it will be ready for foil. In prep work I did sand down the fender flares that stick out too much but that's about it for prep other than washing and priming. I really need to paint some additional bodies before the weather turns. Thanks for looking!
  2. And its finished! I'm disappointed that I didn't get the wheel position right and the front sits a little high so maybe I didn't mount the inner fender liners right. I should have also pinned the engine and exhaust pipe so I wouldn't have knocked them loose a dozen times. But its done, thanks for looking! ?
  3. Thanks, Wayne, Sam and Charlie! I appreciate your comments! After trying to mount the body onto the frame a couple of times there were some issues. The interior wouldn't seat well in the body. The dash and door panels didn't meet their appropriate place. So I took a different approach. I took the doghouse as a unit and glued it into the body. Then I broke one glue joint on the dash to push the interior into the body and only applied the glue to this joint just before mounting it into the body. The interior fit tightly and I was able to glue the interior sides to the body at the bottom which I hate to do, once I pushed it in place. Here are the photos:
  4. I recieved my foil yesterday so I am able to finish the trim on this Bel Air. I did most of the interior though with chrome pen except for the dash and long strips on the door panels. The steering wheel plastic is way too big and I got the black circle (should be Chevy script, no decal) in the steering wheel a little off. Its done. Thanks for looking! ?
  5. Thanks, Carl, Thomas and Rich! I appreciate your comments! Engine and chassis are done and there's not much to see there but I mocked up the body with the chassis and everything looks Ok. A few more missing pieces once I get the foil and this one will be completed. Thanks for looking! ?
  6. Thanks, Terry and Tom! I appreciate your comments! I'll watch out for those air ducts in the fenders and leave them out, if necessary! I've rubbed out the body and foiled most of the body but have run out of foil. I have an order in but haven't received it as yet, so I'll have to work on the engine and chassis until I receive my foil. Thanks for looking! ?
  7. Thanks, Thomas! I appreciate your comment! I probably haven't built this one before because I think the 51 - 54 Chevys are pretty ugly. Kinda rolling bubbles. But I thought it would be fun to build! The body is painted and other than a couple of bleed-throughs on the white that I have fixed, I think it turned out pretty well. Its a somber light blue that looks appropriate for 1951 considering the lack of bright colors for that year. Thanks for looking! ?
  8. I've started this 1951 Chevy Bel Air that I haven't built before, although I did build a 1951 Chevy Fleetline about 25 years ago. It still looks pretty good, its a drab gray. Most of the 1951 Chevy colors are pretty drab so this one is going to be a nice Day 2 bright color. I'm thinking Nassau Blue Metallic with a dark blue and white interior. the top is white and I had a boo-boo on the first coat, so I sanded it out and will repaint today. I'll get the rest of the parts painted today and work on the color coat tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ?
  9. Thanks, Carl, Sam, Rusty and Guido! I appreciate the comments! Here are some outdoor pics in the waning daylight. Thanks for looking! ?
  10. Thanks, Gerald, Carl and Ron! I appreciate your comments! Its finished! Raining today so no outdoor pics. I am not going to add the "C" stripe. Here are a few pics from the workbench! Thanks for looking!
  11. Thanks, Gareth and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Its on wheels! I had these wheels from a kit that I built not too long ago but can't remember exactly. They were chrome but I didn't like them that way so I de-chromed them and painted them steel with some blackwash following. Red line decals on the tires from the decal stash. Plug wires on the engine were the only addition to the engine compartment and I do have a few more pieces to complete. Everything went together pretty easily. Thanks for looking! ?
  12. Thanks, Rusty and Carl! I appreciate your comments! Finished the interior. Hunter Green and the dash, console sides, steering wheel and column are are Semi-gloss black. The dash and straight door trim is BMF and the rest is Molotow chrome pen. The foil may be a little heavy or wide and the decals don't register well so one is fighting the other for visibility. The console doesn't fit well in a proper position to show the console-mounted tack so the front of the console is a bit off the floor. You can't really tell it due to the dark colors. Here are a few pics:
  13. Thanks, Gerald and Curtis! I appreciate your comments! Finished another coat of clear, rubbed out the body and the body foil is finished! I've painted all the other parts. The interior is painted in Krylon Hunter Green. That's next! Here's a few progress pics while finishing the foil. Thanks for looking! ?
  14. This is the Revell Foose kit. I had some Tamiya Racing Green so I thought it might pass for a dark green. So I painted the top with Tamiya Semi-gloss black and added a coat of Krylon Clear lacquer and then after it dried taped off the top and painted the Tamiya Racing Green. I probably won't use the Foose wheels and tires so this won't be a replica but the paint kinda pops with this color. I think Testors discontinued the Fathon Green Metallic so that's not available but might have matched better. I am going to add another coat of Clear tomorrow and move on. The finish looks good at this point and once it is rubbed out and foiled I think it will make a nice model, if you like green, Not my favorite color but I like changing things up a bit. Thanks for looking! ?
  15. Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! Its finished! This one was a bit of a chore. Nice kit if you have the whole thing. I bought this kit from a fellow modeler along with a lot of other kits. This one happened to be bagged and all the parts have been removed from the trees and put into individual, small parts bags and then put into one big plastic bag. So, this one and eight more were thrown in with the deal to sweeten the pot. He said he thought they were complete. Not!!! So this one is missing some of the racing parts, tires, wheelbacks and hubs, windshield wiper motor, heater hoses, front shocks, tie rod, a piece called the radiator shroud in the instructions that would be more correctly described I think as the hood latch panel and the decals. So I have built this kit before and still had the racing parts, racing decals and wheel backs. I replaced what I could and left the rest out. So, I got a decent build out of it but still have two more of these left missing the same parts. Here are a few pics. Thanks for looking!
  16. Thanks, Slusher and Bill! I appreciate your comments! Slusher, its good to hear from you and I hope you are doing well! Finished the engine with plug wires and will add heater hoses. But now it is installed and build is moving right along!
  17. Thanks, Deuces! I appreciate your comment! My thought on building this one as a NHRA racer is for someone in this era to take a stock Dodge Charger and add safety equipment, tires and wheels, add some sponsor logos and go racing! As I understand it and I am not a big NHRA fan, for some classes the interior was suppose to be stock with seats, door panels, dash, etc. So I added the roll bar, a tach from my last build (66 Chevelle) a lap belt and a shoulder harness that I borrowed from a 30-year old build that was falling apart. everything else remains stock, including foiled door panels and wood dash and steering wheel. I had to add a little length to the roll bar to mount it on the floor and also added a decal that looks like instructions to the fire extinguisher. Thanks for looking.
  18. I recently started this Revell 68 Charger and intend to build it mostly box stock. I've painted it with Krylon Fusion Metallic Aluminum with Krylon Clear Lacquer. The interior and hood are a generic flat black and Krylon Satin Black. The body has been rubbed out and foil has been added to the trim. Chrome on sliver is hard to see. I will probably just add a harness in the driver's seat and maybe plug wires. Thanks for looking! ?
  19. Thanks all! I appreciate your very kind comments! Special thanks to SFD for reminding me of the Revell Hot Rod 56 Chevy kit that he sent me. It has a special spot on my shelves but I haven't taken it down in a while and I probably should to see if the doors still open! ? I will post some outdoor pics when I get them.
  20. I built this incomplete Revell kit with parts from the parts box and a 283 engine from a 1957 Chevy 210 Sedan and other parts, plug wires, fuel line, heater hoses. I always wanted to build one in light blue (Skyline Blue) but couldn't find a light blue spray can I could use. This is Ironlac light blue, an acrylic lacquer. White is Krylon semi-gloss white. Inside and outside mirrors are from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. Thanks for looking!
  21. Looks great, Slusher! Your paint is always so nice! I did the 50 Ford convertibl e custom like this but it doesn't look as good as yours! Nice job!
  22. Here is a progress shot of the Camaro Indy Pace Car for the 2010 race. Used Tamiya Orange for Inferno Orangr as the Chevrolet can of touch up paint for this color was bad paint. Simulated the pace car strobe lights with foil and epoxy. Waiting for K Marks decals while I finish the assembly. I am very pleased with the kit and the 5 piece asembly for the front, grill and lights didn't need any glue except for the fog lamp chrome backing piece. I also lowered the suspension to get the right ride height which was quite a few steps. Other than that this is a relatively easy build! Thanks for looking!
  23. I didn't think the re-issue was too bad other than the hood fit on the cowl that I failed to rectify when I built this one in the mid-nineties right after the re-issue. I had bought an original kit from the 60s before I know about the re-issue. I still have that kit and 3 of the re-issues. Here is my build that I didn't try to make 100% accurate just my interpretation of the Ala Kart. Other than the hood fit it was fun to build and pretty much box stock. used white paint and followed woth some Testor's Clear Pearl which has flakes in the paint that made it kinda of white pearl that has faded a bit but still doesn't look bad after 20 years.
