Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! Its been a few days since I posted any progress on this build, but other things got in the way and I also had some paint issues that needed to be resolved. The red and blue paint was cleared and rubbed out fine. The Tamiya pearl white wouldn't cover the gray primer so I used some Krylon flat white as a base for the pearl white. That came out fine but when I went to clear it I guess I didn't wait long enough for the Krylon to dry and the clear lifted the white paint. So I sanded out the white paint and re-painted. I also built the engine and chassis box stock. The chassis front suspension and exhaust headers are fiddly, but taking one glue joint at a time with some medium CA seems to work out fine and the chassis and engine are complete. The red, white and blue interior is also installed. I mocked-up the full-fendered version again to make sure everything will line up. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, all! I appreciate your comments! ?

Finished this one in Tamiya Italian red and semi-gloss black. I intentionally left the black off the lower body rockers and left the "C" stripe and side stripes off ("Day Two"). I did add, plug wires, fuel line and heater hoses. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, All for your comments! Bill, I appreciate your offer and I'll keep it in mind next time the carpet eats one of my mirrors. Nice resin build too! I got my mirrors and have finished this one. While I was adding the decals, the fan caution decal slipped in between the radiator and the support somehow. In trying to retrieve it, I managed to knock off the front bumper, license plate frame and the rear tailpipe extension. The fan caution decal is still in between the radiator and support but I used a decal from another decal sheet. I finally glued the right mirror in place and finished the rest of the decals without incident. This was a rough one to finish! Thanks for looking! Still working on the SS decal to get it to sit down!

I built several iterations of this kit, the 3-widow, 5-window and the Sedan. All the Revell kits are very good and share a lot of parts among these three kits. The last one I built, photo below, was OK but the paint wasn't great and I thought I would be cute and add some chrome foil along the bottom edge. I wouldn't try that again with today's foil. So I thought with Memorial Day and July 4th coming up maybe red, white and blue would be a fun build! So here goes! Thanks for looking! ? Maybe a high-boy version. I still have to clear the body and rub everything out. Everything fits better with the full-fendered version.

Thanks, Carl and David! I appreciate your thoughts. My thought on the carpet savers is that they would bounce the part farther away and based on work experience, I always roll my chair over something because the chair moves faster than my brain. And I couldn't install one under the table legs now because this is a heavy desk with a return on the left side that I had to build in the room. I can't lift it now. Here is another bit of good luck I had at the contest last week regarding the vendors. I bought several kits that were discounted substantially as the day went on. I also splurged on one since its supposed to be a nice kit and at least I didn't have to pay shipping. Here are a few of the buys: These three kits were sold for 3 kits for $25. These were $10 apiece. These were as marked. And this one I splurged on for $36. It was a good day all around and I will enjoy building every one of these kits. Thanks for looking!

Well, I had an unusual modeling day yesterday. First, I was working on the mirrors yesterday and one of the mirror mounts flew out of my tweezers, hit one of the wooden sides under my desk and into the carpet monster. I thought it should be easy to find since I heard it, had an idea of which way it went and with a flashlight would appear somewhere under my desk. Wrong! I looked for over an hour, my wife looked and neither of us could find it! So I went into several problem solving alternatives: 1. I could open another 68 kit on the shelf and take a mirror out of the box. 2. I could steal a right side mirror from a previous build of this kit. 3. I could search other kits for a similar mirror. I have no extra mirrors like this in the parts box. 4. I could build it without the mirror and ignore the mounting slot in the right side door. None of these possibilities seemed reasonable to me at the time. If I took it from another kit in the closet I would render that kit incomplete. I suppose I could fill the slot on the right door with putty on the next build and only use one mirror but I didn't think of it at the time. I couldn't find a kit with a similar mirror that I wanted to take it from, although I didn't look at every kit. I really considered taking it from a previous build of this kit but it had taken a 2nd place at a contest a couple of years ago so in the end I didn't want to risk chipping the paint when I removed the mirror. Here's a pic of that factory stock build: So I looked on e-bay and found a set of mirrors for $6.99. So I went ahead and bought them even though the shipping was almost as much. As the saying goes there's a sucker born every minute and I guess I am one. I should have gone to Hobby Lobby and bought another kit with their 40% off sale this week and paid about $18 for another kit instead of $13 just the mirrors. So I have completed the build for now, except for decals and the right side mirror which will be here Monday. Thanks for looking and I hope everyone has a good laugh!

Body is mounted and thee engine compartment is complete, except for the heater hoses. I had a bit of trouble tucking the chassis/interior assembly into the body and I don't remember having that issue when I built this one before. I figured out that if you tuck the front end in first, it goes a lot easier and I didn't continue to knock the firewall out. Only a few hardware pieces and this one will be done! Thanks for looking! ?

Looking good, James! Can you put a clear gloss on the Createx paint? ?
-
Thanks, Greg, Carl, Keith, Jack and Robert! I appreciate your comments The funny thing is that I have never owned a muscle car but have ap lways admired them both up close and from afar! Robert, your 68 is looking good, the interior detail is close enough, get on and build it!

Thanks, Rusty, Jim and James! I appreciate your comments! This one is moving along as I completed the engine and chassis and now have a rolling chassis. I also had good fortune today at the IPMS contest with 2 1st places, 2 2nd places and a 3rd place. It was a little complicated but they split the Street Stock category between muscle cars and non-muscle cars. I swept muscle cars and have a 2nd in non-muscle cars and also a 1st place in Street machine. Photos are below starting with the current build and then contest photos. Street Stock, muscle car 1st 2nd, and 3rd: 1969 Chevelle, 1965 Chevy Impala and 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Revell 1949 Merc (1st, Street Machine) and AMT Pro Shop 1957 Chevy Bel Air (Street Stock, 1st, non-muscle car)

Interior is done! Paint is a little rough in places but looks OK to the naked eye. Semi-gloss black and flat black with chrome pen for the trim along with a few kit decals. I will paint the gear shift ball black, just forgot. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks Jack and Lei! I appreciate your comments! Yes, I'll be there this weekend. This build probably won't make it but I have plenty of others to enter. Finished the foil. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, John, Carl and Greg! I appreciate your comments! John, as with a lot of kits, I would have to remove the "SS" emblem from the grill and rear panel and that would be hard to do and probably end up damaging both of those pieces. I putty and sand but then I would have to re-chrome or use a chrome pen and both might not achieve the desired result. So I am just going to build an SS 396 without the black lower portion, a "day 2" car. I finished rubbing out the body and hood and have a few pieces of foil on it. After foiling the body, I move on to the interior. Thanks for looking!

Just starting this tone and its one that I have built before which is a very nice kit. I'm going to do this one just like the box with red exterior (Tamiya Italian Red) and black interior. It will have one twist that I realize will not be factory but I saw one online with no black on the bottom and it looked good. I painted it yesterday and today I am beginning to rub it out and it looks pretty good so far. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl and Stephen! I appreciate your comments! Decals are on and this one is done! I did cut through the door lines on the Lawman decal but they haven't settled into the lines yet. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Carl and John! I appreciate your comments! Its all done except for the decals which are next. I am disappointed with my painting skills on this one. I know not to use Krylon on a body but that's what I had and I didn't want to wait on ordering Tamiya white. The Testors extreme lacquer is not much better and it bled a bit when I added the clear. So once the decals are on it, I'll have another shelf sitter! Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Kenneth! I appreciate your comments! I finished the paint, rubbed it out a bit (the edges on this particular Plymouth body make that problematic), and then foiled the trim. Too thick paint (Krylon and Testors), trim moldings that are not exactly crisp, and troublesome foil, all contribute to a less than stellar result. Still working on the hood but its about as good as it is going to get. I'll build it, put on the decals and it will be another one out of the closet. Thanks for looking! ?

Its done! Probably one of the best AMT kits as it went together well and most parts are pinned. Pearl light red for Sunset Rose with a light tan and black interior. Used the chrome pen on the Chrysler lettering on the hood and you can almost read the letters. The mirror is a bit gaudy with its spotlight-like shape from the 300c Custom kit. I put a piece of mirror foil on the front of it so it would look like a mirror. I added a coil, plug wires, a fuel line and heater hoses to the engine. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl and Tom! I appreciate your comments! Well the last attempt at painting this one failed. Without boring you with all the details, I left it outside to dry with a clear coat and t horribly crinkled on me. I tried to sand out and re-paint but I was pulling paint off with tape when I tried to tape it off. So into the oven cleaner it went and I have since re-painted with flat white and fiery orange. Here are the photos starting with the last failed attempt and the current work in process. I have all the other parts painted so now all I have to do is paint the hood and the stripe across the top and the trunk, then clear. I have to wait until tomorrow to paint the stripe because its paint over paint and I should wait 48 hours. Thanks for looking! ?

Thanks, Carl, Paul and Bob! I appreciate your comments! Finished the chassis and now doing a mock-up to see how things look. The front won't stay down without some glue but I think everything will go together well! Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Rusty and Chris! I appreciate your comments! I finished the engine, adding plug wires, a coil, and plumbing from the carbs to the fuel pump. My wife looked at the painted body and said it looked gaudy. So I figured why not jazz the engine up a bit. I need to touch-up the air cleaner bottom, chrome pen on the thumbnuts, and blackwash the block and transmission a bit. Here are some photos and thanks for looking! ?

Interior is done - light tan and black. Foil and chrome pen plus kit decals.
