  1. Been working on the Chevelle this week. Should finish up the cage tonight. A little sanding and cleanup, then primer tomorrow. Maybe ready for paint by tomorrow night on chassis. Hope to have this one done in a week or two then back to the Impala GN.
  2. WOW!!! That turned out fantastic. Great work.
  3. WOW!!! That has to be the nicest AMT Nova I've ever seen. Love the engine. Fantastic work....
  4. In 1972 James Hylton drove the #35 for Bub Strickler to a 5th place finish at Jacksonville in Grand National East division
  5. Looks to me that the 8, 18 and 81 are the same car. Probably renumbered for different races. The 44 and 63 look like different cars. But that's just my opinion.
  6. Great job! Looks awesome. Are you going to put the chrome wheels back on it?
  7. Thanks John, there are 2 different models pictured. The top 2 are the Chevelle with Salvino parts. The bottom is the James Hylton Bub Stricklin 70 Impala that I used the AMT Grand Prix parts on. Both models have threads in "On The Workbench". Impala is about ready for paint. Working on engine now. Will be posting a lot more pics soon. Chevelle was something I started working on again just because I needed a small break from Impala
  8. One of these days I'll learn to start posting my Nascar projects here. Instead of reposting everything I'll just tell everyone to go to "On The Workbench" for the my progress on this one and the Impala Grand National.
  9. Took a little break from the James Hylton Impala and picked up the 70 Chevelle I started a few months back. Bought this one on Ebay rather cheap. Original AMT built fairly well but door handles and marker lights had been removed and painted bright yellow. After disassembling and stripping decided to build as Friday Hassler's NASCAR. Had an extra unbuilt MPC chassis so I decided to use that. After looking and comparing it to the Salvino chassis I realized that most of the parts could be swapped around with only slight modifications. While I realize it's still not real accurate, it is much better looking. Also converted to front steer with parts from AMT Grand Prix kit and added metal springs front and rear. All this took only a couple of hours and looks pretty good. Can now put in a decent looking big block with clearance for oil pan and headers.
  10. That's the body I used. Nice clean casting. Been posting on wip my progress. Will have new pics soon . Got a lot done but no time to post.
  11. I believe the track is Riverside but not 100% positive
  12. The last pic is a 68 Chevy Biscayne with 69 doors and front clip. The pic above is an Olds Cutlass 4 dr. hardtop.
  13. Looking awesome. When I get done with the Impala Grand National I'm gonna pop one of these open myself. Plan on swapping a 67 Malibu body in place of 65. Keep up the great work.
  14. Got a little more done this weekend. 9 inch with pump installed. Dash from Allison Monte Carlo modified but I'm not totally happy with it. Will probably make a few changes there. Finally got the interior to fit properly in body. Cage tucks right up to the roof like it should. Car sits much better now. The stance isn't quite like the real car but I like it better. Should have a bit more time this week to work on it. Will try to get engine, suspension and front cage roughed in. Hopefully ready to start paint this weekend.
  15. Looks like a Torino to me
  16. That's exactly what I thought. I guess NASCAR was a bit more flexible with there rules back then.
  17. Here's a few unusual cars that ran in NASCARs grand national series. Hope you like them. Can anyone figure out what is so different with the last one???
  18. While searching the internet for some reference pics I discovered that the 70 Impalas were not as rare of a stock car as I had thought. A couple other drivers used them in the Grand National Western and Pacific Coast series. Here's a few pics. The second to last one is a 69.
  19. Nice work. I have 4 of these kits that have been sitting on my shelf since the 1st reissue a few years back. Makes me want to pull one out and start building but too many projects on the table right now. Will be following your progress. Keep up the great work. Looking great.
  20. Beautiful work. Love those 60s and 70s stock cars. They had so much more character back then.
  21. Had a productive weekend on the Impala. Cleaned up chassis and removed fuel tank. Rear suspension from AMT Grand Prix fell almost perfectly in place. Had to move springs forward about 1/16 inch. Front support needed to be narrowed slightly. Using metal springs front and rear for added detail. Fuel cell modified from Monogram chassis. Will be painting chassis and interior semi gloss black since I have no real reference pics to go by. It does appear from the one pic I do have that this was a pretty low budget race car and they didn't spend much on paint
  22. Body cleaned up, mouldings removed and fender well opened up. Rear have slight flair but still need a bit of work. Front inner fender well removed from chassis. Stock rear end under for now but will put trailing arm 9 inch from AMT kit later. Interior from an original glue bomb Bobby Allison 72 Monte Carlo. Cage is Polar Lights side bars and evergreen .080 rod for the rest.
  23. Been working on this one for about 3 weeks now. Should be a very cool and unique stock car when done. Started with an MCW 70 Impala Sport Coupe body. Modifying original kit frame. Decals are PPP. Will update as project progresses.
  24. Side bars are Polar Lights Mercury Cyclone. All the upper and rear are evergreen .080 rod. Interior is from an original glue bomb Bobby Allison Monte Carlo. About the only thing that was salvageable from it.
  25. Thanks for tip on the Wildcat roof Tim. That never even entered my mind. Using MCW resin body. Got all the trim removed and fender wells done. Made them look a lot nicer than the real car. Didn't have the heart to butcher them like they did. Will post more pics on WIP soon.
