  1. Thanks for the great comments. It was a fun build Brian
  2. Built this rat rod truck to show off the Sabre engine. Based on the AMT White-Freightliner kit. Good for a laugh! Brian
  3. Thanks for the good vibes gentlemen For your interest. the wheels, superchargers, eyeball and rats are all 3d print files from Thingiverse. Lot of fun. Happy new year Brian
  4. Not sure if this is the right place so feel free to move it if needed. Started out with the Moebius Eye Gone Wild kit. While the artwork was kool the kit was pretty staid so I modded the shell and found a more appropriate driver. Wheels needed upgrading and it wouldn't look right without some tyre smoke and some rats. Lot of fun. Happy New Year!! Brian
  5. Cab smoothed just needs doors rescribed and the headlights sorted. Saddle tanks have been printed will have some panels, vents and piping added. Also lengthened the cabin. Smoothing the cab has taken heaps of time and sanding but is coming along. Brian
  6. Always wanted to do a Rat Rod truck and I've been looking for something that can showcase the Sabre engine I've had for ages. Had to have dual drive and a cab over although it's now a cab forward.... way forward. Lot of body work to go and the saddle tanks will be scratch built rectangular items with proportions to match the cab. Original kit was the AMT White-Freightliner with the chassis underslung. Happy if you get a laugh out of it Brian
  7. Thanks for the positive comments gentlemen. Ricky I took the cut just behind the door. Forgot to mention I also took a couple of scale inches out of the body height. Brian
  8. Trying to do something different with a '49 Ford. Cut the roof off and chop 22 scale inches out of the wheelbase. Wanted to make it look like a Ford concept/show car so I stuck to pretty stock chrome work etc. Brian
  9. Okay Theme was to make it look like it came off the Ford production line so I wanted to keep the trim and features looking stock. Only variation was the metalic paint and the hub caps. I looked up the colour charts for '49 and they did a couple of metalics but not light blue. The light blue suited it though. Hubcaps just looked right too. The photos exaggerate the bulk a little and it's all just sitting on the ground as a mockup so it will be tighter when glued. Also I have blacked out the background of the grill which reduces the bulk as well. I would have liked to drop the over riders on the bumpers but couldn't find anything appropriate in my stash. The ribbed bars from the mercury are too wide and the ribs didn't suit the style. It will sit lower than stock but not on the ground. Detailing the engine at the moment which will be stock. Thanks for the interest. Have a good one. Brian
  10. Paint done! Tamiya TS-58 Pearl light blue. Thanks for the comments Brian
  11. It's hard to do something different with something as iconic as the '49 but with a little cutting and shutting I think this would have been a fun runabout. Going to finish it with a period flathead and stock trim to make it look like a production model of the time. Body shortened by 560mm (that's about 22" in old English). Body chop was 65mm (2.5") at the front wheel arch and 130mm (5") at the rear to give the body a little rake and remove some of the bulk. Brian
  12. Hi Oliver They are Aoshima wheels. Very frustrating things. Beautiful on the outside and crude as, on the inside, which lets down any detailing on the underside. Thanks again for the comment's gents. Brian
  13. Thanks for the kind comments. Hey David The hood is the original kit hood. The molding is so thick that I was able to file of the scoop off without going right through!! What was interesting with this build was how well the Mustang bits fitted into the Thunderbird. Brian
  14. Started with the AMT '57 T'Bird and the Momongram '99 SVT Mustang. The idea was to use all off the SVT running gear and interior in the T'Bird body. Then decided to do a full custom attack on the the T'Bird.... This is what happened!! Brian
  15. Iconic Cobra competitor! Built up from a resin slot car shell. Bit ruff, particularly the glass but looks good on the shelf. Kerbside only. Brian
  16. Okay I've picked up this thread again for an update. Most of the bodywork is finished so it's off to paint. First coat Tamiya pearl white for the stripes then pearl light blue for the body colour .... I think ... at this stage ... maybe! Chassis shot shows the "minor" mods to the Mustang chassis. Brian
  17. Beautiful and classic Brian
  18. Thanks for the kind words. I'm going with the stubs. Crazy thing was I found a photo of Glen Curtiss sitting on an outsized bicycle with one of these V8s in it. Apparently, he ran it at over 130mph and held the outright speed records for bikes for many years. Crazy Brian
  19. First go at something with a 3D print. Engine is a pre WW! Curtis V8. The rest is scratch built from my parts box to show off the motor. Other motor is a 110% print to play with. Still sorting the exhaust, stubs or pipes past the driver. Bit of fun. Brian
  20. awesome addition to your Porsche stable mate. Looking forward to seeing it on the table next month Brian
  21. Hi Monty Yep it's the usual problem with any race car. Engine, suspension and body mods are carried out throughout the season so it's hard to nail down the particular engine setup used for a particular model. I got close but never managed a shot that matched the inlet setup or rear suspension .
  22. Bought a half dozen or so many years ago in different guises. These are sweet kits and I have used a few as a basis of my hot rods and race cars. I wonder if Mario ever was that thin though ..... Still looking for the fuel inlet Brian
  23. Hi John Your mention of a Maserati 3500GT got me thinking so I went to the bottom of my stash and found this. It's a glue bomb that was donated to me many years go. I'll have to fix it up now. It's dated 1983. The Chapparral is dated 1966. And thanks everyone for the comments and memories. Brian
  24. This is an original 1966 kit (I think). Detail was very, very good for such an early kit but final body fit was a problem, probably due to age rather than original molds. They look worse in the photos than on the model I'm sorry to say. After all these years only the rear lower suspension mount and tyres were missing. The side windows aren't even close so I'll have to do some thinking for them.... Decals were a tasteful shade of dark yellow so I've just used some like ones. Just for interest I've added the "Modern Day Jet Fighter" list for any early jet fans. Other cars listed included a Ferrari 342 America and a Cunningham. Overall I wish someone would remake these kits. It would be pretty popular I would think. Love to hear from anyone who remembers making them way back when. Brian
