  1. More progress...interior is a go... Went with white/dark red combo. Floor is flocked, seats and door panels painted with white primer, upper section of door panels were hit with a coat of gloss. Dashboard detailed per prototypes.
  2. Yes, they're the kit tires
  3. I tried using the Tamiya weathering powders on a recent build, specifically I was trying to add a rust look to an exhaust system. I painted the pipes first, then applied the rust colored powder, so far so good. But the powder changed the pipes more to 'gold' than a rust color. Should I use a different base color. I tried on some black, and got a dirty black. Anyway, I let it be for the most part, as it gave it sort of an anodized look. I did add some Testors rust paint up near the engine, dry brushed. Any thought or experiences would be helpful. TIA...
  4. Diecast or not, its a welcome addition. I'm hoping its an accurate rendition...my first one will be a gaudy yellow and blue version...
  5. Next on the bench is one I've been meaning to get to for a long time,...well, that's actually half my stash, LOL. Revell's 69 Dart GTS, should be another quick build. Color coats and clear are on, just awaiting polishing. Paint is Dupli-color GM garnet red. Easy kit to add details to, but I'm aiming at a pretty much box stock builder here. Tires are lettered with Shabo dry transfers.
  6. As promised...DONE. It was actually a pleasure building this one. A total of one busy week at the workbench got this one in the finished category. That's what happens when you're building a kit that you can enjoy so much. Missing Link resin Supreme hardtop mated to the Revell 2 n 1 kit. I built the kit components pretty much box stock. New 'glass' was fabricated from K&S sheet. Paint is automotive 1972 Olds silver-pewter, matched to a dark red interior...see first post for interior detail photos. NY tags are from Best Detail. Lot of BMF, but hard to see with the body being silver. I highly recommend the Missing Link body, it was very easy to work with, needed very little clean up, and it mated well to the donor, just a little bit of trimming needed at the front windshield for a good fit.
  7. Sorry guys, posted in the wrong forum...It will be done soon, I promise...
  8. Latest project is underway, building up the Revell 72 Cutlass using the Missing Link hardtop body. I must say, this kit is a superb builder, the interior is especially nice. I'm doing it box stock, just added flocking for the carpet. Color coats are on the body, using 1972 silver pewter, along with the dark red interior, this thing just screams 70s GM...
  9. Motor City Resin offers an Econoline that they list as a 74, but this style was out in 67 I believe with only minor differences... http://motorcityresincasters.com/74E100Van.htm
  10. Here's the hood
  11. Updated images...model is basically done, just waiting for the door decals. This one fought me quite a bit towards the end. No matter how much I measured and test fitted the windows, when it came time to install they were tough to make them look right. Everything else came out fairly well. Most of the donor parts are from the AMT version, but I did use the Revell engine and engine bay parts, and the rear axle set up, which I had to modify a bit. Paint is Testors pure gold, with Tamiya bright white and TS55 dark blue. The hood's "shark fin" was adapted from a diecast Michigan State Police car, with the wording changed to be a non-state police unit. (Police-Stop-Police). I'll post more in the under glass section once the decals are done...
  12. Nice unique build... The Colorado State Patrol actually used a few Subaru WRs in the same capacity, basically trying to curtail the illegal racing and gain some public relations at the same time...
  13. Getting into the final stretch with this one... I found some photos on the big "I" of some old Ann Arbor, Michigan police cars. Apparently, in 1958 they started using a very unusual tri-color paint scheme that paid homage to the hometown University of Michigan, whose colors are gold and blue. The cars were painted gold, with white roofs & doors with dark blue hoods and trunks. They used this color scheme until the early 70s I believe. Basically, it looks pretty awful, but just one of those replicas that I had to do. I used Testors lacquer pure gold as the best match I could find. Tamiya dark blue was used for the blue. The paint is now done and came out pretty good right out of the can, just a few touch ups to do, then BMF. Started with the Bandit Resin 58 Biscayne sedan, I sanded off some trim to lower it to a Delray. I'm using parts from both the AMT and Revell versions, which has led to some complications, but nothing too formidable. The engine if from the Revell, as well as some of the suspension. I will try to use the Revell one-piece front grille, but time will tell if that'll work well enough. The door decals are being made for me. A progress shot of the paint job, with a couple of AAPD images to give you the idea of the real thing. I attached the Ford photo to give you all an idea of the colors (you can just barely make of the blue)
  14. Very observant Bob, you should be a Detective, LOL.... Yes, I retired from the PD and relocated to more tax friendly environs.
  15. Now some chasers... Lindberg 96 Crown Vic, built box stock as a replica Mississippi Highway Patrol unit Lindberg 06 Dodge Charger, Nevada HP replica Promolite resin 1950 Pontiac, Georgia State Patrol replica Modelhaus resin, 1965 Ford Custom, New York State Police replica, AMT 65 Galaxie donor, full detail with 390 Interceptor engine
  16. 2015: an odyssey only due to the fact that I actually build quite a few models. The year started off strong, but died out in the second half. Now that the new year has begun again, my bench is once again active. Here's a look at my 2015 activity... A resurrection of sorts...an original bombed out JoHan 71 Olds 442 brought back from the rolling dead...new chrome and hood from the Modelhaus paired with triple green paint, interior and simulated vinyl roof... Next, one I've wanted to build for a long time...a stock 77 Monte Carlo. Revell kit, Am Staco tires with parts box Impala wheels, bright red from Tamiya AMT 67 Comet..pretty much box stock except for the 66 Ford dog dish & steelies...Tamiya platinum and simulated vinyl roof. Revell 69 Shelby GT 500 convertible...another box stocker..Tamiya dark metallic blue AMT 68 Roadrunner, sort of a parts box build with a bunch of extra Mopar stuff from builds past...Tamiya gold with vinyl roof, Missing Link taillights and Keith Marks trunk decal.
  17. Your builds are always so entertaining Tom. Best wishes for a Happy New Year...TS
  18. Fantastic...amazing work Jay
  19. You done good....looks very nice.
  20. Roof "system": Testors makes a 2 part spray that yields a good looking vinyl roof. First a dull base coat goes on, then the second coat is a "texture" coat that you spray from at least 12" away, sort of forms a spatter effect. It comes in black and white. I have used it a few times and it does work pretty good. And yes, I forgot the seams on the sides. Just to show how fed up I was with this build, the roof got damaged after I painted it the solid color, polished and bare metaled everything. I had run out of the champagne metallic, so I needed to come up with another choice. So I masked the whole roof off, bare metal and all. Sprayed the roof and then removed the masking very carefully. No damage whatsoever, thank goodness I used the Tamiya tape. All the bare metal stayed put. Then I realized I forgot the seams...too late, screw it. Here's another one with the same roof treatment...
  21. Revell low rider kit, built as a stock Monte with a wheel/tire swap. Revell really should have offered this kit as a full build, or at least with stock options in their snapper. I chose to paint it Chevy Victory red, as I had a friend back in the day whose father had one this color combo. I resisted the urge to use rally wheels, and opted for a set of aluminum wheels from the AMT 70 Impala kit that were very close to the aluminum wheel used on the 77s. Tires are American Staco whitewalls. This is still a great looking car today.
  22. Box stock build of the reissued Revell kit. One of my all time favorite muscle cars that I'll never own! Paint is Tamiya racing blue metallic, just a tad darker than the Acapulco blue Ford offered this year. Interior is black painted with automotive vinyl spray giving a realistic look to the surfaces. Tires have lettering added with dry transfers from Shabo. Details added where appropriate. I left the top and the boot interchangeable.
