  1. The doors on this are "open" from the factory, the problem is that they do not have working hinges. You have to set the doors in either open or closed positions. I plan on making working hinges. If you need see how to open the doors, there are plenty of "how too's" on that. My favorite method is the trusty old "back of a #11 blade". I will post how I hinge these, if anyone is unsure how to do it.
  2. its always nice to find someone older than me here. Welcome..and you are right, when I was a kid building models, I never thought someday we would have all of the hi-tech stuff we now have....I am glad I can still participate and use this new stuff.

  6. No, after the first post hit the forum, I looked it up on HLJ. It was listed and it stated that it was in short supply. I ordered it on the spot and got a confirmation e mail the next day telling me it was shipped......now it may take a while as shipping from Japan sometimes is reasonable and sometimes goes via that old "slow boat from China" route, but it has "left the building", along with Elvis. The next day, HLJ showed the car as in back order status.
  7. I have one in shipping from HLJ right now...and I can tell you that it has opening and closing doors.....I will hinge them for sure. I will not let the manufacturers short coming stop those doors from working.
  8. Clearly, you didn't frequent them enough.
  9. Hard to fault this one...everything works perfectly...color, wheels, graphic, stance and attitude. Really sharp.
  10. Good job so far, I built this kit too and it is a very designed kit, nice engine detailing, it will look great when done.
  11. Very nice job Jim, I like the color combo you used........I have that kit, one of these days I will get to it, I will be happy if it looks as nice as yours.
  12. Well, I have spent more time reading this thread than I have spent watching NASCAR in the last two years. You can argue all day about how the sport has changed, some good, some not so much, but the bottom line is that all changes are meant to further the chase for your dollars. And if putting a bikini clad hot babe in a car, gets guys watching and spending, it could happen. Guys, are cheerleaders on a professional football field really necessary? Do you follow along with the cheers? Really! Same is true in F1, Indy, all motorsports on that level……….actually, all professional sports on that level have one goal…get you to part with your hard earned dollars. You can argue that you don’t spend any money watching a NASCAR race, or even a MLB ball game on TV, but the sad truth is that the sponsors factor that money into their product, so every Bud you drink contributes to the money chase. Don’t misunderstand me, I know that is how capitalism works, I find no fault in it, I just chose to limit my exposure to the money grab. I’ll most likely watch some of Daytona next month, but I will not be glued to the TV, I will not be sucking on a Bud while chomping on a bowl of Doritos’s and I will not be able to tell if the cars have carburetors, with or with out restrictor plates, or fuel injection. I can foresee the day when the cars will be remote controlled…the divers will be racing the car like a video game sitting at a console with TV monitors all around them……think about it, they can crash themselves to bits and always walk away from the crash….no more emergency helicopter rides to the hospital. How cool is that!
  13. Many more than I could ever build.......and not as many as I want..........sound familiar? I thought so!
  14. I just order it from HLJ. The listing said they have low stock, in case anyone else is interested. This kit looks really neat... I think it will get moved up in the rotation once it arrives. I just found an old bottle of HOK Sunrise Pearl in my box of HOK bottles....that will look great on it.
  15. No if, ands, or buts, I will get this kit.
  16. Here is a little twist that may, or may not, be appropriate for this build……being that it is Presidents Day weekend that this build is being proposed to be done over, what if the build had to be a vehicle with the same Name as a President? You know, Lincoln…..Ford………Cadillac (well, they still ride in them)......Chevy El Camino (Bill Clinton famously had one before his time in the White House….it had Astro Turf in the bed out back, just in case of an emergency pit stop with a cocktail waitress). I know it limits the build subject a bit, but it certainly is relevant, isn't it?
  17. Take a look at the railroad paint shelf in the hobby shop. If I remember correctly, there is a color used for weathering by floquil that is what I think you are looking for...dirty black, or smoke or oil black, something along those lines. I could be wrong as I haven't been doing trains in many years.
  18. As a young kid I had the original "vibrating reed" HO cars set up alongside my HO trains. Later in 1965 or so, someone opened a slot car track facility where they had 4 different tracks and you rented time on the track. I had a Cox Chaparral that I really liked a lot and then a really fast Mako Shark. Later I got into making my own chassis out of solder brass rods and clear Lexan bodies that I painted from inside. It was fun for a while, but then girls, cars, beer and the related distractions got in the way. Seeing that video makes me wonder, I mean, what's the point? The cars go so fast you can't see them, they stay down on the track going around curves at ridiculous speeds, it is like, "floor it" and then the race is over. It seems to me that most of the skill is taken away when the cars stay down on the track that well without flying off.
  19. SHOW-OFF!!!!!! Very Impressive. So, tell me, how do you find time to eat, sleep and have a life away from the workbench? Seriously, that is a star-studded lineup......hard ( actually, it is impossible for me to choose ) to pick a favorite. Great job.
  20. Nice to know I am not alone with my dislike of this little "Napoleon Complex" a$$. He just can't call a game straight up without some kind of bias. Very amateurish and unprofessional. If it wasn't for his father, this guy wouldn't even be a weatherman on some Podunk station in the back woods.
  21. Curt, I completely agree with you, it will be a great game.....but you never know, the Giants are a very strange team. They come out one week and look like the Junior Varsity, then come out the next and look like world beaters. I never thought in a million years that they could have beaten the "up to then" unbeaten Patriots in 2007, but they did. Who knows, but one thing I do know for sure, the game is on FOX, so we will hear how great the 49'ers are and how the Giants really don't belong on the same field with them. There will be the throw backs to all the great plays the 49'ers made in big games...we will hear all about the legacy of Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young and barely will we hear about LT, Harry Carson, Phil Simms and Mark Bavarro. It will be fun, either way. (I have always liked the 49'ers, so I really don't care)....I will have to watch the game with the TV sound off, and the radio on. No biggy.
  22. Most of you guys are as bad as those "bias" announcers on FOX. Most of you, and certainly them, have been complaining about how the Packers did not play as well as they should have. When the Giants scored, or recovered a fumble, Joe Buck and Troy said that it was a bad break for the Packers, or that a player on the Packers missed an assignment. Even after the Giants beat the Packers pretty handlely, it is being said that the Packers lost it, Rogers had a bad game or the receivers dropped the ball. Guys, it was pretty clear to me that the Giants beat the Packers. The Giants deserve the credit. They played one heck of a game......give credit where credit is due, and maybe it is time think of Manning, yes the "little" Manning as the elite quarterback that he has become. As many have said in sports, all team sports, "you need to peak at the right time".....the Giants are peaking in the playoffs....I would say that is the right time. I am not a huge football fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the Giants are the "home" team for me, and they won last night and I do not see anyone giving them the respect they earned. P.S. Seriously, I am sick and tired of that little jerk, Joe Buck, always calling games against the NY teams....he clearly hates the Yankees and the Giants. Glad to see he had the game last night ramed up his backside. (Of course, that is just my opinion and I could be wrong)...but regardless, I watch the New York games (baseball and football) with the sound off when he is calling it.
  23. Harry, I like to support my local guy for a few reasons. One, Fred is a really great guy. I enjoy stopping over a talking with him and a few of the other hobbiests that frequent the place. There are model train guys, airplane/military guys and R/C guys, we all share our experiences, Two, if I need a bottle of paint or glue, I like to know I can go there a pick it up with out any problem and Three, I want to support my local businesses, it is good for me and good for the economy and good for hobby.
  24. In this day and age, I would not expect any of us to be surprised by the state of the hobby industry. With incomes down, and disposable income (cash for hobbies, crafts and non-necessary items) equally down, the situation for the hobby shop owner is difficult.......then throw in the effect of the internet sellers where they do not have the store front and anywhere near the overhead of the retail guy then the Walmarts and such , and the nails are being driven into the coffin. The trend is clear.....I have seen two out of the 4 reasonably close hobby shops fold up and one more is shaky at best. The times are changing, and will continue to change...................support the local hobby shop as best you can.
  25. I am a little confused...........if you want to update the underhood section on the Edsel, why not locate one of the "newer" AMT issues from a few years ago (ebay, model roundup,etc...) and transplant that section into the older Edsel? That is what I would do, but I could be all wet.
