  1. Just got the email that mine was shipped! Can't wait!
  2. Did you order this from gmscustoms on Ebay? That's where I ordered mine from too!
  3. Revell says it will come with the stock wheels as well. And to answer the question posed in the title, I am also excited! I've never built a 1/12 before, but I've always wanted to do the '69 Camaro. Even on Ebay the old ones are still pretty expensive, so I'm also really looking forward to getting a brand new one in a sealed box. I also really hope the body is molded in white instead of orange or black like some of the old 1/12 kits. Anyway, here's the picture of the wheels that Revell posted on its facebook page.
  4. All of this advice is spot on and if you follow as much of it as you can, you'll definitely come out with a much nicer first model than I did! If there's one thing about model building I've learned so far, it's that you never stop learning. Even by the time you've been doing this for 20 years, you will still be improving. I've only been doing it for about 6 years so I still have much to learn. To answer your first couple of questions: yes, you are in the correct forum section so you don't need to create a new thread, but I would suggest renaming it "My First Model: Revell 1/12 Shelby" so that people quickly browsing through the list of threads will know what it is. And PLEASE POST AS MANY PICTURES AS YOU CAN! I love looking at pictures, much more than just reading peoples' descriptions of what they are doing. If you have a half decent digital camera, please use it, but if you don't own one or have access to one, a phone or iPod is better than nothing. As every one else said, good luck and HAVE FUN!
  5. The '58 Impala is my favorite car and I finally got around to watching American Graffiti for the first time the other day! The body looks fantastic! How's the rest coming along?
  6. As much as I hate to see a beautiful car in this condition, I must say this build is awesome! This is probably the most realistic weathering I've seen on a model so far.
  7. She's finally on 4 wheels! Here's a quick mockup to check the fit of chassis, interior, and body. Everything goes together great and the stance looks just right! (Let's hope it stays that way once the rest of the pieces are in there). Still a lot to do, but she's getting there
  8. Just dots of silver chrome paint; nothing fancy
  9. I still have a bit of detailing and touch-ups to do (particularly the floor mats, where I had to scrape off some slovenly laid flocking), but here's the interior, for the most part. Sorry it's been so long since my last update. I'd have to say it's the nicest looking interior I've done so far, although my '58 Impala might want to argue on that point. All the piping is BMF, but the window cranks and such are painted chrome silver. As I said before, this was my first time flocking, and I thought it came out pretty good. However, if I'd realized how little of the carpet shows once everything is together, I honestly wouldn't have bothered. Oh well, good practice anyway, and there's still plenty left for future cars! I debated putting a dull coat on the "vinyl," but it's less shiny in person and I think the satin sheen it has is pretty convincing. Let me know what you guys think!
  10. Even after you straighten it out with some heat, it will still need to be sanded since the trunk lid is also much thicker than the rest of the body. I hope it wouldn't be too hard to repaint if you decide to fix it.
  11. The trunk lid on mine had the problem you described, but nothing holding it over a candle and a bit of sanding can't fix!
  12. My flocking came today! I'm applying it as I type (well, as I let it sit for a few minutes a per the 'Italian Horses' tutorial instructions.
  13. Hahaha, that's one way to put it! I don't think it needs a whole thread, but I might post a before and after picture when I'm done if anybody's interested.
  14. Thanks for the input and compliments, guys! I haven't gotten much done the last few days, as I'm still waiting for my flocking to show up and I sort of got sidetracked by an antique clock I got at a thrift store that I'm taking a whack at restoring. Anybody want to see a couple pictures of that, even though it's not automotive related?
  15. That chassis looks really sharp! Got any pictures of the finished product (if it is finished?) I've tried replicating factory overspray before, but it's just about impossible to do well with just a spray can.
  16. That's what I did with my '58 Impala since I didn't feel like buying red oxide primer at the time, but the overspray on it doesn't look very good. I'm sure yours looks much better since you have an airbrush. I look forward to seeing more pictures!
  17. Thank you, glad you like it! When I got it I didn't really have much information about it myself, so I figured I'd give as detailed a review of it as I could for others who may be looking to get one. The MCG P.E. set is has more details than the one that came in this kit, but it's made for the oldest AMT '57 kit, so some parts don't fit quite right, so I've heard. So good luck with yours too
  18. Made some progress the last couple days. I got all the suspension components painted, so I'll let them dry a couple days before I assemble that, as I tend to get finger prints in some gloss and semi-gloss things if I try to work too quickly. I've been doing this almost 5 years and I'm still working on the whole patience thing Something weird I noticed while painting the front springs is that they aren't actually coils. I can only assume it's a molding defect, but fortunately it's the kind of thing that's impossible to notice unless you inspect the piece carefully. The rear end is very nicely molded, with distinct brake lines and U-bolts that were easy to detail. All interior parts are in a base coat of red, waiting for me to get a new can of flat black to get them detailed. Interior carpeting will be black, which will make the red seats really pop. I ordered flocking for that today, so it won't be here for a few days. Please wish me luck with that, as this will be the first time I've ever used flocking. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will come out!
  19. Did you just say that's your FIRST model?? Granted the Revell 'Cuda isn't that complex of a kit, but MAN, that is a clean build! Nice smooth paint, decals went down smooth, clean engine bay (and props on the battery details) and nice interior details! Keep up the great work
  20. I confiscated the hubcaps and tires from the Revell kit because the white walls are so much more accurate. I will also be using the decals from Revell and possibly the hood spears as the chrome plating in this kit isn't too smooth on those parts (and those parts only, fortunately!) I drilled holes so I can use the knockoffs from AMT and masked the lips so I could paint them red. I'd say they came out pretty clean! Oh, I guess that hole isn't quite perfectly centered, but I'll take care of it once I put the knockoffs on! PS: To those of you with the non Proshop kit: Does the decal sheet in yours come with the grill emblem? Mine didn't, which is the main reason I'm using the decals from the Revell kit. Well, that and the Revell one also comes with the gauge faces.
  21. Uh oh! What did you paint it with? I suppose you can always pretend it's undercoating? It's quite common.
  22. Filed off the molded gas tank straps and made my own out of BMF.
  23. It sure is! Here's one of the reference pics I'm going off of.
  24. I love how this kit has the frame separate from the floor pan! Sooo much easier to paint it cleanly! The underbody is Dupli-Color red oxide primer (I'll probably have to build a whole fleet of '50s cars to finish the can) and the frame is flat black with one coat of gloss clear to make it a perfect semi-gloss.
  25. Thanks! Do you plan on bringing yours to the workbench soon? It really is a great kit. Aside from the Tamiya Ferrari Enzo I almost forgot I started, this the next best kit I've ever put together!
