  1. I have built this kit up recently, and considering the size, was not very impressed with it generally as a kit. This kit was in my stash for over 15 years originally being a Monogram release. I think it dates back to the '70s. Basically, the impression I got was that it looked like a scaled up 1/24th scale kit, judging by how the interior was a one piece tub that the seats located into that is typical of a 1/24th or 1/25th scale kit build. The parts fit in places left a lot to be desired. But, having said that it does make up into a very impressive model. I did mine 'stock' in a two toned light blue body with white roof that really suited the car. This is one iconic car that cries out for a brand new kit tooled up to present day standards in a large scale.

I hear you. I have 3 of these kits.I have the engine and tranny 80% complete, with over 120 scale hardware pieces and about 60 hours into it to make it better.

Brudda, do you have larger pics? I'd love to see it up close.

  2. My favorite so far is a worn xacto blade. I sand it with a coarse sanding stick on all 4 sides to form more of a point than a blade. Sand the spine, blade then both faces all in the direction from base to tip. Then use it backwards.

I have found this is very sharp and won't run up the sides on you. It removes plastic quickly. I often find I go through the plastic when scribing when I don't mean to.

  3. Really like this build! Your chassis paintwork is outstanding! How did you get the edges of the frame "highlighted" like you did, (especially right behind the front suspension and front wheels)? It looks really good; I'd like to try your technique on some of my future builds!

I used dry brushing, but I use Model Master Metalizers. Steel seems to be the best color. You can buff it to a shine after, but when you use it dry for dry brushing, it comes out super thin and shiny already after you scrape the brush across the surface.

On metal colored parts I spray the color I want, then do a wash, then dry brush the high points, so I get at least 3 metal colors in there.

  4. Another nice build, but I need to let you know, Chevy engines of this vintage, from the factory as in your build, are Chevy engine orange, not blue. But a very nice job none the less.

I realize that, but I'm building a 1/12 57 Chevy and I'm tired of staring at orange. I thought it would be a nice change. It is GM Blue though, if that counts :P

  5. Great looking engine. Cameron, where did you get the headers and the linkage?

The carb linkage is from Model Cars Garage, they have a nickel and copper version

The headers are from the Tony Foti Camaro (revell), but my replacements came form Ebay with a different trans and other stuff, so I know they exist in other kits. I think they are just Revell's BB headers.

Thank you everyone for the compliments.

  6. Thank you. It's not my first, just the first one I forced myself to complete since I started building about 6 years ago. I struggle a lot with painting bodies and that's what has been keeping me, but I am getting it figured out now, so hopefully I will be able to crank out the ones I have almost done.

  7. one of two models I have completed. This one fired better than the BOSS 429, but still some issues with sanding through the color coat. This was painted with ZERO then clearcoated, then tons of sanding. I'll get it right some day.

I used the MCG photo etch kit for the interior, exterior badges, wheel centers, hood vents etc.

  8. This is the first model I ever completed, which makes it one of two. I have a bunch of half finished models. Lot's of small problems on this one, like rubbing through the paint on some high areas.

Painted with Duplicolor enamel, then sanded to death and brought to a polish. I think I have a good 3 hours into sanding and polishing, if not more. I'm also better at taking pics now, so I apologize for the poor lighting.

  9. Looks good. Boss 429 distributor is on the front though. And on blower applications where the cap won't clear the blower I have seen a 90 degree distributor housing

I realized that after I put it together. My excuse is I'm a grown up and I can do what I want

  10. Looks good, but would be 100% better with the trim painted

Make sure the trim surfaces are super smooth. Tape off at the joint, then sand the trim smooth (you're painting over it anyway) and give it a light wipe with alcohol. Make sure your tape is nice at tight, then just spray light mist coats of Tamiya black rubber. It dries super fast.

the most critical part is not getting oil from your skin on the tape as you apply and make sure the tape is smooth, no wrinkles etc.

  11. here we go

    Molded in kit cooler

New resin cooler. Not sure if I want to get this funky or not

Model Car Garage gauges (included with kit)

Feast your eyes. All chassis brackets, Alt. fan, gauge bezel, emblems, linkage and what appears to be the most delicate PE piece ever made at the top

    Nice instructions

This is the only bummer. I don't know what will be more work, shaving the stock tranny of the molded in linkage, or cleaning up the resin tranny to be presentable. I know they went through a lot of work to make this available, but it's not that great. Everything else appears to be flawless.
