  1. Great stuff. To assemble it, I suggest you go to Scale Hardware and pick up the following: 1mm hex wrench 0.8mm threaded hex nut 0.8mm threaded hex bolt You will need a 0.75mm or so jewelers micro drill bit (aka pin vise) to open those holes up a bit. Here's that 4 link in action: Dale
  2. Love the Miller! But how did he get that thing way up there? They weigh a ton, not to mention the gas bottles. Dale
  3. How to Decant Paint: Dr. Cranky Clinic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W3y36H-u_0 The part of the Testors video showing the actual process and how the paint reacts to the air. Note the straw epoxied to the can nozzle. I use two glass jars and alternate between them to avoid mess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2NjMD3AW2A Dale
  4. In my opinion, this is just plain asking for trouble. Dale
  5. ^^^ I noticed that after I posted it. Embarrassing... The rule for tires in Stock and Super Stock hasn't really changed. Tires must be inside the wheel wells. Hot rodders being hot rodders, they figured out how to move the outside edge of the frame in to let bigger tires fit in that space. Current Stock is limited to 9 inch tires while Super Stock goes to 11 (I think). I'm building a 1:1 68 Mustang for Super Stock and the surgery needed to move the rear frame rails in is scary. Dale
  6. Speaking of irony, didn't either Mitsubishi or Hitachi develop the shallow water torpedoes used for this? Standard torpedoes hit the bottom and detonated too early. Dale
  7. ]I'm pretty sure Pro Stock debuted as a recognized elimination class in 1969, but I don't know if Olds 442s competed in it. Heres a link to a '70 Camaro to show what a car of that era would look like. Not as exotic as the modern one Niko posted. EDIT: The link broke, so do an image search on Grumpy Jenkins Camaro and you will get a feel of the cars. http://www.dragzine.com/news/“grumpy”-jenkins-1970-camaro-off-to-auction/ It might be better to go with Super Stock, which had a lot of 442s in it. Stock body and frame with a narrowed rear end for wide tires. You could probably adapt the chassis off the Pro street Chevelle to get the rear end look. Olds 442 Super Stock Dale
  8. I used to think this was insanity until I saw a video made by a rep from Testors on how to do it. Dr. cranky has a good video in his trove over at the LabRatOry... Dale
  9. A two part epoxy putty like Milliput works better because it's stronger. http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Yellow-Grey-Milliput-Epoxy-Putty/dp/B001OBBTMW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386364462&sr=8-2&keywords=milliput Dale
  10. Super Clean! Dale
  11. Kenny Brown has decided we might like this a bit better: http://www.stangtv.com/news/kenny-brown-reveals-2015-mustang-gt3-concept/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kenny-brown-reveals-2015-mustang-gt3-concept Hurry Up!! Dale
  12. One of my Uncles was a ship's welder on freighters in the Great Lakes. Now thats an Old School job. Robot welders can build these things but they can't fix them on the fly. Dale
  13. That little thing flummoxed me for the longest time. A board with an "OFF" switch...Who's idea was that? Features? We don't want no stink'n features! Dale
  14. Chassis and cages are 1 5/8 in 1:1 and that's around 1.6-2.0mm in 1:25. To properly notch the tube - use rod - at that scale would require a 2 mm round file and I've never seen one of those. I use a bit of a scorched earth approach for mine. I dip the ends of the rod in a strong liquid glue like Plastruct Plastic Weld and press the pieces together. It melts the plastic and you can smooth the parts together with the edge of an Xacto blade for a second or two. I do this on a glass surface. When I'm done I smooth the edges by adding a drop of Mr. Surfacer 1000 or 1500 liquid filler using the tip of a tooth pick and sand it a bit. After a coat or two of primer and finish coat, it looks pretty good. Here is my still in progress Pro Mod '49 Merc. All the bends were done with a heat gun and wooden forms. Dale
  15. I think the term "On the bench" pre dates WIP. Dale
  16. Just to bring everyone back to good old Planet Earth, my wife still sometimes refers to models as what they are - toys. Keep that in mind. It's meant to be play. Have fun, Dale
  17. Nothing, you're just "Old School" My dad was a purchasing agent for the Gulf Oil company for 40 years. Started in the mail room during the Great Depression. Dale
  18. In another thread Dave referred to chassis design as a Black Art. All of the real magicians are the TIG welders. Dale
  19. How in the world does anyone maintain the presence of mind to shift in one of those things? Dale
  20. I can find pics of the '67 Coronet - Butch Leal - running as Super Stock (in '67}, but not the Charger. Dale
  21. I get called out for stuff because I have a rule book but no seat time, but I don't care. Replica material bodies are OK in PM, which is considered the top door slammer class. Top Sportsman cars have fiberglass front ends, but I don't know if the whole body is glass or not. With PM cars, NHRA Tech has to approve the body design before the build. Your chassis would not pass tech inspection for this class. I have the SFI spec book for full bodied cars and you don't really want to try to replicate the tangle of spaghetti that would entail in 1:25 scale. With the right chassis, you could run this in comp eliminator, but my suggestion is this: It's a MODEL CAR! And a cool one, at that! Finish the build and show us your stuff. Dale
  22. Don't sell Elon Musk short on anything. The man did build a spacecraft that handles the resupply missions for the ISS. I've seen both the Tesla roadster and Model S up close and the last thing I would describe either of them as would be "gimmicks". The Model S tops 400HP on a dyne and runs 0-60 in 4.2 sec with a top speed of 130. The car has issues and he will fix it. This man is the model for Tony Stark. He even has one of the Iron Man suites. Dale
  23. Strike with that ball peen hammer I lost. Anyone one seen my hammer? Dale
  24. I just turned 66 and AARP still bugs me. Dale
