My actual career choice was teaching, but I have a background in drafting and design (T-square and slide rule era) and graphic design (digital era), both of which rely on scale. I build different 1:1 stuff and draw scale plans before cutting anything. I'm building a car for the drag strip and find that looking at kits in my stash is easier than crawling under the darn thing to see what's under there. I made a 1:12 scale representation of my '68 Mustang with my computer and have used it to make decisions as to where to put the roll cage supports under the floor board. I ruined my modeling calipers using them on my big car. Dale

Things to probably not consider: Siphon or "bottle feed" airbrushes (personal preference. I found them messy) Home Improvement store compressors unless they are labeled "oil free" or "oil-less" lubrication. The oil used in many for lubrication will mess up model paint. Dale

Dale EDIT: My "kit" is an Iwata Evolution and an off brand compressor that looks like the Sprint Jet. The cleaning kit is indispensable. I'm not a fan of rat rods or rust (NO;DC). but I keep an open mind and pay attention to the build of these cars. A true rat rod is as well thought out as any street rod or drag car, just a different look. They're not junk yard cars, they're designed and engineered to have that look. I'm doing what Todd suggested to make sure I don't miss anything with my 1:1 Super Stock Mustang. $38 well spent even though it's not required for the ETs my car will run. Dale

I'm only fairly familiar with NHRA, but what class do you want to shoot for? I can get you the current rule sections for Pro Mod and Top Sportsman. I think cars like the Pro Sportsman Chevys on the market would fit in these categories. Maybe Super Gas or Econo Altered, too. I'll do more reading today. Dale

Top Fuel Style is just a 500 cid supercharged injected V8. Run it on gas and it can go in any street rod with no trouble, depending on your gas budget. The COPO Camaro and Cobra Jet Mustangs in AAA/Super Stock are supercharged and injected 600 hp street rods. Nitro on the road is not do-able no mater how you cool the engine. It just eats stuff. Something like $60 per gal. Dale

Here's the same set up on a FC motor. Fuel pump driven off the crank shaft. TF style motors love their juice. Dale
