  1. I got that kit free with a loyalty card from my local hobby guy and used it for parts in a kit bash. Nice suspension. still have the motor. Dale
  2. My actual career choice was teaching, but I have a background in drafting and design (T-square and slide rule era) and graphic design (digital era), both of which rely on scale. I build different 1:1 stuff and draw scale plans before cutting anything. I'm building a car for the drag strip and find that looking at kits in my stash is easier than crawling under the darn thing to see what's under there. I made a 1:12 scale representation of my '68 Mustang with my computer and have used it to make decisions as to where to put the roll cage supports under the floor board. I ruined my modeling calipers using them on my big car. Dale
  3. Things to probably not consider: Siphon or "bottle feed" airbrushes (personal preference. I found them messy) Home Improvement store compressors unless they are labeled "oil free" or "oil-less" lubrication. The oil used in many for lubrication will mess up model paint. Dale
  4. Good airbrushes: Paashce Talon $70 Iwata Revolution $100 Badger Patriot $75 ----------------------------------------- Very handy stuff: Airbrush cleaner solution Medea Table Top Cleaning Station $20 -------------------------------------------------------- There are a lot of compressors on the market. TCI Global.com (AirBrushCentral) has a selection. Iwata Sprint Jet Compressor $204 http://www.coastairbrush.com/index.html Coast Airbrush is a good one-stop with good service. Dale EDIT: My "kit" is an Iwata Evolution and an off brand compressor that looks like the Sprint Jet. The cleaning kit is indispensable. People will mention spray boots, but let your hubby figure that out. I built my own from plans on the Net. send me a PM and I'll share them..
  5. I'm not a fan of rat rods or rust (NO;DC). but I keep an open mind and pay attention to the build of these cars. A true rat rod is as well thought out as any street rod or drag car, just a different look. They're not junk yard cars, they're designed and engineered to have that look. EDIT: ND;DC = No Offense, Dr. Cranky Dale
  6. Always, unless I'm trying to dig something up. Usually my own WIP thread to finish, then it's the My Content thing. Dale
  7. http://www.sfifoundation.com Dale
  8. SFI + NHRA beats Yellow Bullet anyday. Rules > Rumors Dale
  9. Here's a pair of Top Sportsman cars from the Lucas Oil regional race here at Pacific Raceway last summer. Nice open class for a build. NHRA T/S rule section 2013 NHRA Top Sportsman 2013.pdf Dale
  10. I'm doing what Todd suggested to make sure I don't miss anything with my 1:1 Super Stock Mustang. $38 well spent even though it's not required for the ETs my car will run. Dale
  11. I'm only fairly familiar with NHRA, but what class do you want to shoot for? I can get you the current rule sections for Pro Mod and Top Sportsman. I think cars like the Pro Sportsman Chevys on the market would fit in these categories. Maybe Super Gas or Econo Altered, too. I'll do more reading today. Dale
  12. I taught elementary Special Ed. are "Materials" as hard to control as kids? Dale
  13. The thread starter, John Pol, sent it to me a while ago. It's from a September 1979 Hot Rod Magazine article on Grumpy Jenkins. Dale
  14. Top Fuel Style is just a 500 cid supercharged injected V8. Run it on gas and it can go in any street rod with no trouble, depending on your gas budget. The COPO Camaro and Cobra Jet Mustangs in AAA/Super Stock are supercharged and injected 600 hp street rods. Nitro on the road is not do-able no mater how you cool the engine. It just eats stuff. Something like $60 per gal. Dale
  15. Is that all freehand? I'd have to mask everything to even come close to a line like that. Dale
  16. Ditto. Except for the ride, it looks fine. I've got this on the shelf for a future build. Dale
  17. Great build. Love the paint job and details. This put the car on my build list. Gotta have one of these. Dale
  18. Check out the Timeline on Mustang Specs. It will answer most of your questions. http://www.mustangspecs.com Dale
  19. Post 1. That's how is always starts. Post 1. I'll just post 1. That's all, just 1... Welcome and have fun. Dale
  20. I see that now from the earlier photo. Dale
  21. Here's the same set up on a FC motor. Fuel pump driven off the crank shaft. TF style motors love their juice. Dale
  22. I put this together from some files a guy sent me a while ago. Maybe it will help you see the brake system. Dale
  23. The man on the proverbial, and literal, hot seat. I've toured the NCSB and visited the Thirty Mile Memorial site. My hat's off to all the folks in the Yellow Fire Shirts. Dale
