My Son's First Tamiya Kit
Enzoenvy1 replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is so cool Ismael! I love to see this happening, and good choice for the subject. Triceratops was my favorite as a kid. All it needs is some comp yellow and a Corvette flag. Voila!!!! lol I bought my son the Revell snap kit Corvette a year ago and we built it together. Was an awesome time. He lives with his Mom and stepdad out of state now so I can't do this anymore. But he sure does love cars thanks to my influences. -
It has a "pistol grip filter" what ever that means?! Is that a water filter or ? Since there is no tank it should never have condensation i would think. Since there is no oil it should never have that problem either. I am getting more and more confused here. It only flows at .33 cfm! That really limits this to airbrushing but that is what it was made for. There is a simple "+/-" knob and a generic dial for the pressure. There is only an on/off switch. I am beginning to think that I should get a 2-3 gallon compressor with a small tank. I can add the regulator and the water trap. Together all of this is seemingly cheaper than this Silver Jet. On a side note, it looks like salon compressor, lol. (yes, this is trivial, but still....)
-
So Jairus, you think I should keep this then? I have been reading everywhere that I should save the money and get a 2 or 3 gallon compressor from a hardware store - add a water trap - add a regulator - add an adaptor for the hose and that would be better. Yes I live in an apartment, but I am on the end of the unit and can hide it in the closet. I don't know enough about this particular Iwata. It seems to me like something suitable for a salon ro maybe I am wrong. Should I go the route of a larger hardware store compressor?
-
...is this thing what I need and should I keep it? My Mother, bless her, always is trying to make me happy. Well my better half told her I needed a compressor so she went out and just bought one from Hobby Lobby. What she purchased was an Iwata Silver Jet. Now I know some about the compressors as I almost bought a Scorpion from Hobby Town. I even almost bought a couple of different ones from Hobby Lobby. But this one I have never heard of before. Working pressure adjustable from 10-18 psi Perfect for: Cosmetics, tanning, Hobbies/Models, Fingernail painting, General airbrushing, Bakery. Includes: Pistol grip Filter, and coiled airhose. I am just thrilled I can do bakery projects with this thing! Now the stats on the box: Air flow - .33cfm RPM - 2600 Weight - 6.3 lbs Size - 6x6x6 in Max pressure - 40 psi Volts - 115v/60 hz Watt - 130W So, here is where I need your help. What on earth do I do here? This thing looks like I should be opening up a salon next week and painting women's nails. Is this worth keeping? If you looked at the link and the specs it doesn't seem rated too well for hobbies. But at $170 it should be a pretty ###### nice compressor. As it also is an Iwata it should be a great compressor. If you remember I received a Badger 150-07 Professional in June for my birthday. I kept that after learning from you all about it. But as it is not an Iwata will it work fine? Please let me know what you all think. I love the fact she even cared enough to get me this but before I use it I want to make sure I have what will be durable and is what I need to last for a long time.

Jeep CJ to TJ COnversion (lots of modding!).
Enzoenvy1 replied to Enzoenvy1's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, nothing was wrong with what I have done, but then I thought about the strength of this Jeep. It may be a model, but I want it too last. So I decided to scratch the styrene axles and make brass. Glad I had the styrene ones for a guide. Glad I learned that soldering is a pain in the butt at this scale. Glad that I tried it though. I bought all of the brass and a K&S Tube Cutter. Here is what I have done so far. Here is my kinda jig. Result. Old axle and new creation. Old arms and new arms. Start of new axle after soldering. -
Body on. You can easily tell I dropped this beast. Looks great as there is no rear rake and the front still has tons of travel per rally specs (my rally specs). Body will be brought closer after final assembly.
-
Here is the rear diff. Like the drive shaft? Rear caliper and rotor with weathering. Wheels before advertising stickers. After. Wheels on chassis.

With all of the modifying I have been doing lately I needed an OOB break. I have been wanting to do this Scoob for a long time - actually over a year. So I figured that I would and I would not look at a single reference picture or other persons build. All I want is to complete 2 models in one year. I started on Monday and have had all week to work on it. Here is what I have done. I know this is a street rally car, but I wanted it lower. I know that Tamiya used there 03' and up kit for this. Oh well, I fixed that with a little drilling and aluminum. I lowered it 1mm overall. Here is the wonderful flat white painting, lol. Here are the rear driveshafts with some BMF and detailing. How it sat to this point.

When Will This Be Kitted??
Enzoenvy1 replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, at first I laughed, but then I recalled a Ford Focus that had a plywood wing here in Colorado Springs, lol. I had to do a quadruple check on that one. I have seen things here that you would not believe. My best friend is a mexican/indian and his "mohowe" mobile is kind of like this, lol. He jokes about it all of the time, but he still drives it. Too each their own. -
Well, that is it for now. Still a lot to come, but a lot completed. Hope it looks badass to you all as well!?!?!?!!?!? :evillol:

And here she is now. Sitting on her 19"s and with the wheels stripped of chrome. I left the lip chrome as this is what I want to do. Enjoy!
-
Now to the body. Here is where I am today. I wanted a completely unique front end that I have not seen yet on the web or any Mustang. So I cut out the stock front airdam and the ran a strip of styrene around the lip to add a smooth contour. I then added a thick lip to the undertray that goes all the way back to the wheel housings. this was then sanded to match the contours of the hood and bumper. I am loving it. Front brakes. Engine painted OOB with weathering. Rear axle with rotors finally added. Just to get these wheels to fit was a major chore, major.
-
Well after all of the Jeep frustrations and no desire to finish the CS, I decided that I needed to further modify this model. Now that finals are over, I have some time. I can honestly say that this is a lot of modding for the wheels to fit and the body work. But hey, isn't that the point?!?!?! After looking around at other options to make my body kit I decided that the styrene chunk approach was completely wrong. I would have so many surface irregularities that it would not work. So I broke out all 200 pieces of styrene and then taped off the fenders to prevent putty from ruining the curves. After reading an article in a certain magazine they recommended how to lower this kit by simply cutting out links in the rear coils. So I tried that and found that the axle housing hit the floor pan. I also had to figure out the width of the axles as the new wheels are a lot deeper to the hub and a lot wider overall. So I used the Revell hubs glued onto the axles and then shaved them. The brakes were no way suitable for a real machine like this. I laughed at them and immediately thought of improvements. I have about 18 pairs of brakes from Ferrari's so that was obvious. I also had left over PE discs for the F430 so ti was a match. I had to lower the front suspension by cutting 2 mm off of the frame supports for the front independent arms. Together the front and rear lowered the car a lot. This was my goal as I wanted it on its wheels by the end of the day.

Got My Order From Chrome Tech Usa!
Enzoenvy1 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I gotta ask why period? Before retort is thrown let me ask this. Is this real chrome as in chromium dipped copper plated parts or something? Did you have plastic chromed like the usual process or is there something I am missing in this year of 2007? Can I believe that I do recall hearing about a new process that chromes anything you want? I think I might have seen this done on a balloon. Is this easier than AlCad and a clear? -
A Newbie From Michigan
Enzoenvy1 replied to 82notch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hello and welcome to the forums! Good times are found here. Hmm, I should copyright that. So, you are 25, and have either a mini truck that is "c" notched or a Mustang or??????? I am just guessing. -
What's Your Background Noise?
Enzoenvy1 replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well it varies for me but above all I need some noise or form of it. It is either: Movies on Ipod - screen is small enough to see but takes up little room. I have ripped my entire DVD library to an external drive. Drag and drop baby. Music on Ipod - this is an easy one. I have modeled so long before that I have killed a full Pod charge! TV - given source of noise. Usually Discovery or TLC or History - always technical shows like How its Made/Mythbusters/WWII stuff. For the ultimate shut out the world feeling I turn on Dr. Phil or some ###### like that. I have found that I have learned more politically through modelling than I have ever known in my life. So I am finding that the news and CNN are on a lot more lately. EDIT - One noise I hate hearing is the wife yelling at me to get up and do something that can wait til later. I think she likes to tick me off when she gets bored!!! -
Ferrari F40 Competizione Monte Shell
Enzoenvy1 replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I totally forgot that I had one of these! I so need to build it strictly OOB. But, I too knew that good ol Tamiya simply changed the wheels and added decals. But, it is a great looking model. good job so far. -

I Got My First Builds As A Kid!!!
Enzoenvy1 replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, that even got me a little choked up, lol. I rummaged through my rents house the other mmonth and found all of my old toys. I now have my original Transformers back! All these kids today don't even know what the real Transformers were like, just the new movie. Sorry to go off on a tangent. Are you gonna restore any of those? I would tackle that red Fox body, lol. that thing is crazy weird looking. But as a kid, that thing was probably tops for you. Thanks for sharing. -
Now this is coming along nicely. I am loving it actually. I think the "wingy things" are fuel pods that would have been under the wings. Drop tanks are what I think they were called. ######, here I go again, I will stop. This thing looks great though. Are you doind a flashy paint job or the old traditional Corsair blue? That would look cool if you painted it exactly like the service plane wit the stars on it.
