  1. Well, this Ferrari started life as one kit back in November, but it ended up being part of 3 kits over the last 8 months. I can proudly say that as of today, it is finally finished for good. I hated way too much of this build, but when I look at it now, it looks fantastic. Here is what I did: 1. Fujimi F430 Challenge kit 2. Crazy Modeller Photo etch set 3. Tamiya - Enzo turn signals 4. Tamiya - Racing white paint - prepped to 12,000 5. Final wax 6. Stripped and painted wheels semi-gloss black - widened wheels by .05 7. SMS Carbon for the engine bay 8. SMS Photo etch seat belts 9. E-Jan Emblems for the Ferrari badges 10. All vents cut out for photo etch pieces 11. SMS Faux Fabric used on interior pieces 12. Tamiya tape used for rollbar padding 13. Lots of TLC I hope you all enjoy the finished product!
  2. And here is the finished chassis. I added the tank to the interior with my own colors. Looks great I think: Here is a last pic of the engine before the body goes on: One last shot of the paint: So, after nearly 9 months - 3 kits, and too much time, this ###### Ferrari is finally through. I can say that I bit off way more than I could chew as this was my 2nd finished model in 4 years. I think OOB is a better direction but I am to detailed to do that. I hope someone out there has appreciated the build. Cause, it is finally over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Ok, the final update to this way too long project. I can say now that after the results are in, I did well personally. I am very happy with the finished model. Here is the finished body:
  4. Oh I will indeed. I might even put plastic everywhere and wear a suit also. LOL Soo it shall be finished soon. Thanks for looking.
  5. I think all you need is Chip himself helping you out!!! Great execution and wonderful choice. Looks great.
  6. Now there was some much needed wiring, but I didn't go all out. Just enough to make it look realistic: So, the engine was complete, and all I needed was to add the rear window before installing the engine bay. Well, I guess I really just wanted to break another window cause that is what I did. I guess Fujimi plastic does not bend at all!: But, I got the second one in fine: So, everything is almost ready to be final assembled on the F430. I am sure that once I get to that point I will drop it or spill CA all over it. Then it really will become the first flying F430, lol. Hope you all like the progress as it really has been a long time coming. Started this in November of last year?! Wow, time flies. CC welcome - Jon
  7. Now that the body is finished completely, and the interior is also, it was time for the engine. So I continued the SMS cf on the intake plenum: I also added the rest of the CM etch pieces: Since my airbrush is still not being used I covered the exhaust with BMF: Then I added the dash with all of the etch: Next was to weather the exhaust. I used Tamiya's new weathering kit and it worked great:
  8. Ok, this might just be the final update on this Ferrari!!!! I am so happy that this one is almost over. I have become very forgiving in the final assembly and the detail I wanted to use is being missed intentionally. Still though I am building it very well for how much I have despised this thing. So I tried my first photo-etched harness for this beast. I used SMS's 1/24th harness kit and it was, well,........good and bad. The actual belt material was a really tacky surgical tape looking setup. Their guide was great though as it helped you cut the right size of belt. But they were white and I had to color the belts in with a red felt tipped marker. That was easy, but the whole process took about 4 hours?! Here are some pics: Finished and installed: So, that was finally finished as I was dreading that part of the build. All of the glass was in but the rear needed to have the defroster removed as the Challenges do not have them. So, I very carefully removed the lines and polished out the window to 12,000 grit and some Tamiya fine compound. It looked absolutely great and then on the final rub, it snapped in half!!!! I really hate this Ferrari. But, I still have that other kit, so I did it again with success.
  9. Happy Birthday! Doing this in one day? Looking good with the aftermarket rims and brakes. I like it a lot.
  10. Now that looks nice!!! Can you do a panel line wash though? That would make this model just awesome.
  11. One thing you will ned to know: when you do final fitment the hood will hit the bottom of the radiator. I had to sand down the intake face after I painted it. You wont see it unless you take the hood off, but it will not fit snug.
  12. Look great, especially the Bee.
  13. The diffusers look great Ismael. Looking back I might have made a "plate" to add the diffusers to. Who knows, mine worked out. Even though I built one, please keep the updates coming. It is always good to see what others do to the same model you built. I keep coming back.
  14. I have ordered hge amounts of stuff ($ wise) from Hiro, all is good.
  15. Although I am newly returned to the hobby I get bored really easy. I like to modify everything til I hate it and then I get bored. But I never change. When I did the Vette for Le Mans I wanted to build a car that I would never really build unless there was a good reason. I am glad I did it as it was a break from Ferrari kits consisting of $200 of aftermarket ######. I would say build something out of your complete liking and do it OOB. That might make you happier when you actually complete one?! $.02
  16. Since the paints do not contain aerosols I believe that that they ship everywhere.
  17. Wow, congrats there Ismael!!! I have never entered a competition, but to enter and win that many trophies is a nice touch to the hobby. That would certainly make anyone proud. Congrats!!!
  18. Think about how I felt posting it, lol. Thanks to you all, it is finished and posted. Jon
  19. Well, Le Mans started one week and about 7 hours ago. I finally finished this Vette. So, it will be considered a 1 week race/build, lol. I spent the last 4 hours doing final detail on this. I had issues with BMF on the green led in the door, so I hand painted chrome with the green. It actually turned out great. Two of those hours were spent on making the chassis fit the body. It was an awful fit in the end as the front right wheel/tire was pushed way back in the fender. So the old dremel and some brake relocation and I got it to fit right. I loved the build, but am glad it is finally over!!! I feel like I let myself down, but this was a huge undertaking for a 24 race. If I do it again, I will build something a lot less detailed. Hope you all like my Le Mans build!!! As always the progress can be found here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5601 These were all outside to show the true color in daylight: Bad shot as my viewfinder is off, but you get the idea: Side detail: Last one outside on the tarmac, but way out of scale. Still works for me: Here are the inside photos from the studio. Wait, I don't have a studio, but I tried.: I BMF'd the rear lenses and it shows I think: Well, that is it!!! Jon
  20. I never had thought about the bandwith, good point. I never have thought about slower connections. I am wireless at 54 Mbps and it loaded fast as can be. But I definitely see your point and will consider such highly demanding loads. Thank you so much for the compliments as this was a huge undertaking. I might not want to do this again. lol I whole heartedly agree on the paint protection thing. My whole life I have been naive to paint as I feel that it will never matter. But as I get older - 29 tomorrow I need to start thinking about these things. I plan to do so, thanks again. Glad you like it Ismael as I know you are a total Vette freak. I hope I did justice for your likings. I think that Revell made a good kit, but I highly agree that their level of detail is really lacking. But, it is only a skill level 2 build on the box. Maybe that is why? Thank you very much, it was fun and tiring. I will choose something considerably less tasking next time. I thought I would have been ready but was not and that is why I did not succeed. But, I tried and tried I did. lol Next year will be better as I will find a build that is a closed body with no mods. Like I said at AF, your build was beautiful!!!
  21. Really a nice job. I am a huge fan of modern wheels/suspension on classics and this looks the part. Because of this I want to go out and snag a 69 camaro and throw some rims like this on it. Beautiful job.
  22. Brakes added: Here is the paint after it dried for a couple of hours - smooth as glass already!!!: SO, this is where I made to at 4:30 am. The race would have ended in 3 more hours at that point. If I could have stayed up, then I might have had it completed. But, the saving grace is that I had time to let the body dry all of the way. The next day was Dad's day so no more building. Monday I did the decals and that lone took about 2 hours. I have never decaled that much on a single car. I have never cleared with TS-13, but I felt I should to level out the decals. Here is what it looked like before I possibly ruined all of my work cause of the eating of TS-13: Well, guess what happened?! :banghead: The clear worked flawlessly!!! lol I layed 3 mists and a couple semi-heavy coats to it. I can honestly say that I have never had such a successful paint job ever!!! I don't even need to polish or wax it, it is that shiney!: Today I added the BMF'd lights, the spoiler, and it only needs a couple of touch ups here and there. Other than that, it is finished. I hope to post it tomorrow, but work will not allow until night, and I want this one in the sun. I hope you all like what I did. I really did try to make it in 24 hours, but this was a big challenge. Please comment and criticize if need be. Jon
  23. Here was everything that needed to be semi-gloss black: The dash after sanding smooth and painted. I think it looks great: Now, the front ######, again. I marked where the three slats needed to go: Like I mentioned earlier, I had to recess the three middle ones so that the mesh could go in front of them. It took a really long time to do this, and I was mad: Here is what they look like from the front: And here is the test fit with the mesh. I am so happy I did this as it looks great!!!!: Time is flying: Now, finally the body is sanded and ready for primer: Well, the chassis is about finished. Here are the diffusers after paint, and I am loving the look!: Here are the windows trimmed out: Oh My Gosh there is paint!!!!!! Well, after 3 primer coats and sanding. I stripped the chrome sprue with Easy Off, and that stuff was amazingly quick! Here are a couple of wheels in Tamiya Gloss Aluminum, and the body in Tamiya Camel Yellow: The tires were hysterical and so smooth that they could not be real: So I sanded them down with 400 grit to make them look more realistic: Time was flying by: Our apartment smelled like a paint shop!!! I was painting outside to, lol: This was the 4th coat of paint and I was not touching it anymore. Starting on the interior: Brakes were supposed to be flat red, but the real car had Gold colored brakes: Still flying: I know, I know, not the way it should be, but I was not about to waste a ton of time on the interior:
  24. Bumper after attempt 3: Now, the rear NACA ducts were in one piece and not attached to the body which is wrong. So, I measured and cut them off. Then glued them to the body: Ok, things were going well, but then came Saturday and the race and I was not ready for anything close to primer. Then I noticed that I needed to add Styrene to all the door sides, and the hood. Anyone who has done this knows it is kind of easy, but time consuming: For fun and reasons unknown, I took pics of the clock to piss myself off. Here is where I was at: Dash came in two parts that did not fir together at all. So, I added some putty and prayed it would dry in time: Here is what Revell gives you for spoiler supports, it is the chrome one: Here is what I had made, they were even curved for the angle of the spoilers surface: Here is where they should be: And the result: Had to fill the spoilers sink holes: Both doors and hood completely fitted:
