  1. Well, I will start off with stating that I simply cannot build OOB for anything - ever!!! I knew I could have the body and chassis prepped for the race, but I spent so much time fixing ###### that I simply had no time. In the end, I passed out around 4:30 last Sunday morning after 20 continuous hours of Corvette angst. I can honestly say that I did complete the model aside from decals and adding lights. If it were a just painted C6-R then I would have accomplished my task. But, it was a as is running Vette and I couldn't do it. But I learned so much about techniques that I would never trade the experience. So,..........here is the build of my #64 GT1 Le Mans Corvette C6-R. Like I said, I was able to have the body primed. So last week I started by seeing what was good and bad with the Revell kit. Since this is my first ever Revell build (I am partial to Tamiya cause they are the best), I can't say if it is a bad kit. Most pieces fit really well, but the chassis pan was warped and the body had a lot of fill where it was not needed. Like the real car, the front air dam is open and these pieces needed to be removed: Here is the first cleanup of the ######. I broke the three inside slats on accident, but the purpose was needed. If you look at a real car, the three middle slats sit behind the mesh, and the 4 outer slats sit on the outside of the mesh. Here is the beginning: The rear also has a cutout where a license plate would go on a street vette. On the race car it is not filled, but rather there is a mesh in its place: So, that was removed and voila: Next I looked at the rear diffusers and noticed that this is completely inaccurate for the C6-R. Revell only cast 7 diffusers wheras the real car has 15!!! Here is the progress on the diffusers: The lip of the diffusers had a curve to it, and that was also inaccurate: So I filled the back and cut out the curve: Now, 15 new diffusers had to be made: Here are the first two, and the beginning of a head ache: But, I made it work: Some might think they are not all the right length, but I staggered the 5 main diffusers to be longer and the inners progressively shorter. Here is the finished product: The dorr gaps were really crappy: The spoiler mounts were completely inaccurate for the car as of race day in 05'. And Revell decided I only wanted one of them so I had to make new ones (more to come). So, I filled the holes in the body: The green door light were simply dimples in the plastic. I wanted to put BMF in the holes and use green paint. So, I drilled out the holes to make the walls less round: Here you can see how thick the doors were. The dremmel loved it! So, I backed the part with Styrene and got this:
  2. Wow, I forgot that you had this thread going. I just started my C6-R for my LeMans build this Saturday. As I was looking up material I noticed so many things wrong with the Revell build. My first step was to remove the front grille area and the rear license plate grille also. You will not believe this, but I killed the same grille slats in the front that you did!!! I would post a pic, but I can't until after the race. But at least I felt better after i did it now, lol. Great build so far! I also noticed that the press release car had like 5 diffusers on the rear wheras the LeMans/ALMS cars had 15!!! Last night I removed all of the factory ones and cut 15 new ones to be added.
  3. You mean the suspension components? The arms are molded into the bottom of the chassis tray. Then you sandwhich the hubs onto those with another support (a-arm thingie). As for accuracy it is negligible. You can't see much of them once the inner fenders are placed. So far I think that the stance is perfect for the Challenge. The regular F430 appears to sit higher in real life and through Fujimi's models.
  4. Those are the Crazy Modeler Photo Etch SAws that I got from Hiroboy's site. They are awesome and have saved many hours of cutting with a larger saw blade or x-acto. Look over his site for what you need, but this is the set that I acquired and think that they are worth 10x the price!!! http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=172
  5. I figured as much. I know the "kid" at the LHS and I am not shocked. Probably never crossed his mind and she would not know to ask. After reading around the ol net, I think I am just going to buy a light compressor ala pancake type. Could I be able to tell if this was used by the way? There is no brush holder in the kit and in the tip there is dark coloring to it. Shouldn't it be clean as a whistle or do they test them at the plant? If it were used should I worry? I guess the only way to know is to use it.
  6. Hey Jairus, more questions for you. I am going to keep the Badger but I had some questions. I saw the teflon washer by the way and I ca see where those can disappear fast. Since she bought me the Badger compressed air, I have no way of hooking up the airbrush to the can?! Is there some sort of adapter that should have came with it for this? I saw a picture online of a lady painting nails and there was a round black adapter that looked as if it screwed to the can of CO2 and then you could screw the air hose into that. Am I missing a part here? Thanks for your time. Jon
  7. Wow, your reply makes me so much more happy with her choice! If you think tis was a good choice thean I am all for it. But, you mentioned the Teflon seals. Where do I acquire more of these seals so that I can continue to brush accurately? Am I wrong in hearing/learning that a gravity feed is better for painting? What should I get that is good compressor wise? I know it needs a regulator and a drip valve, but what is best? Thank you for your reply!!!!
  8. I was sitting here having a really crappy modeling day and then my fiance gives me my birthday present early - an airbrush from Hobby Town. I have been doing my research on brushes and no I need to ask some questions here: 1. She bought me a Badger Professional 150 - Dual action. 2. This is an internal mix brush. 3. It comes with different needles. 4. She bought me compressed air. I am so happy that she thought of me and my hobby that I could care less if this is the wrong airbrush. But, I am aware of better ones out there. I was already looking at an Iwata or something similar with a gravity feed. I have done some research but I need your help. She is not mad if I exchange this one for a better one. Please help me, is this a good brush or not? I already explained to her about compressed air, that is not an issue. I just want to know if I should start with this brush or not. It is a dual action, but not gravity feed. Please help me as I am excited as hell, but don't want to use it until I can be sure that I have a great brush!!!!
  9. Well, over at Automotive Forums Hiroboy is a member. I have bought from him a few times, and countless others use his paint. From what I have heard on that site, he has exact matches and they are pre-thinned too!!!! Go over there and take a look. Find his name and PM him even, his name is Steve I believe.
  10. Wow, another Springs person, cool. I was just at HobbyTown at Woodmen looking for a C6-R for next Saturday's Le Mans build and I was thinking how lucky we are to still have it around. Somehow, they have made it over the last 20 or so years here. I will always go there before the internet-unless I know they will more than likely not have it.
  11. Hope I am not reposting a current thread, but I have not seen one recently. I have noticed in the past that other people will try and build a whole model during a race on tv. Well the 24 Le Mans is next Saturday and I wanted to try this. Since I have wanted to build a C-6R for a while, I am going to attempt a complete build before the race is over. So, I picked up the 2005 season winning Revell C6-R #64 Alms winner, driven by Olivier Beretta and Gavin, Magnussen in the GT1 class. Here are the pics from Corvette racing's site: http://www.corvetteracing.com/pictures/2006/lemans/ I cannot say if I can complete this, but I really want to try and do it!!! I would think in 24 hours I could accomplish this fairly simple build. I am planning on stripping the wheels and chrome the second the race starts as well as starting the body. I want to have my first coat of primer on in less then an hour. From there, we shall see. So, does anyone else seem interested in joining me next weekend for a Le Mans build? I think it would be fun for us all to get involved?! I know that there are other entries from Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, etc.... Those may be harder to come by in a week. Who knows, Maybe a slew of Vette's for the forum? Thanks for looking. Jon
  12. I discovered SMS CF decals years ago and that has been all I will use!!! They are by far the best from what I have seen. Since I have not used others I can't say, but I have never had a problem with them.
  13. Thanks for the kind words. I will admit that I am too anal for this hobby, but that is the way I am and the way I want to build. Starting over twice had really dampened my spirits for the hobby, but look where I am now with it!!! I might admit also that the Corona bottle could be a factor in earlier mistakes, but not since. I have learned that I enjoy drinking beer and modeling, but can't do them together. Not that I was drunk while doing anything, but after a few your nerves are not the same. lol Soon she will be done. Thank you all for your kind words, I really appreciate them!!!
  14. (Disclaimor - look at post before) Now, as it sits, here she is. I am so happy with the color and the rim color I chose. Everything is falling into place nicely, which is odd?!!?! I decided to use Enzo turn signals in the front cause they were not just plastic lumps on the body. This was a last moment choice as I installed them after painting. I made sure I was very careful when doing this and it paid off. I am so glad I chose this! I need to add a little BMF to the backs of them and they will shine better I hope. Here are the fillers added to the body. They really payed off I think: Here is the best part--all of the rear mesh. Most was easy, but some were a pain to install. Again though, it all worked out: Kind of blurry, but it looks great!!!! The wheels look so good with the red calipers, I am so happy: And here is where she stands as of today: Tomorrow I will do the panel lines, and add the badges to it. I also painted the recovery points bright yellow to add to the badges. So, the overall theme will be white with black, and yellow to match the badges. This thing might be finished before the new year, lol. Hope you al like it?!?!!?!?
  15. Wow, thanks for the replies, I didn't see them until tonight! I have no time for anything, especially a hobby like this. But, I will try, and try I do. Finals ended a while back, but work has been sapping me. That and the no-more-free-time I get form the woman. Life could be worse. I have been working on this off and on for a while. After 8 months and lots of ######, the body is like I want it - finally!!!! I polished it with my Micro Mark kit to 12,000 and this thing shined like I cleared and waxed it. Well, I didn't do either. I polished it and barely waxed it. Looks great, but again, the pics are at night: Rims installed and the silly nose piece added. I think this piece looks aweful in scale, especially by Fujimi. But, it belongs: Now, aside from the dash, the cockpit is completed. Here is the almost complete rolling chassis: Brakes and wheels completely installed: All of that mesh found a home and it was a PITA!! Still, I got it:
  16. At first I thought so what, but then I saw the 14.99 price. Since it is in Texas and only a few states away, this would be only around $22.00!!! ######, I already have three F430's, but for that price?!?!?!?
  17. I wonder if my grandpa is going to Willis his Willys CJ-2A? LOL
  18. Wow! Lots of great pics there, and lots of great models also!!! A personal favorite was that Enzo in Le Man garb. It looked like there might have been a resin body near the Enzo on page 15. Do you have any info about this setup/possible body? Thanks.
  19. I was just thinking that same thing as I sit here online in my spare apartment bedroom with all of my model stuff cleverly out of the way so that my fiancee doesn't have to see it. She has seemed to have won for now. I need to buy a house and do this!! Looks great!
  20. Worked for me too. Gotta love making videos with a Mac!!!!
  21. Looks great Ismael, I would be more than content with that outcome!!
  22. I am/was indeed. I joined there a while back and was not welcomed with great thoughts about the site. A lot of people seemed to fight on there. Did you see me out with a Blazer that was broken down up Old Stage last fall? Wow te world is actually smaller than I thought. On the other hand, I would like to be more into that site as I really want to wheel with groups. Wheeling alone does not bode well as did the day my friends Blazer crapped out. Seems that a lot of forums are picky to users though, I am learning that. Thanks for the compliments.
