  1. I am building this kit on here as well. But I am modding the whole thing to what I think is a better Mustang, lol. Great wheel choice. I have several sets of the TE-37's and they might end up on mine as well. Great start.
  2. Welcome Scooby. I might guess that you drive a WRX? lol If you are looking to build what you mentioned than this is the place to be. Man, I am almost married and in college too, but I am limited to build time cause of you know who. But, I would rather have her than plastic models. Lets see some work asap!
  3. When I flew RC planes we had a set of different sized pinstriping that was good quality. It was at the LHS all of the time. It might be too thick for a scale model, but I am not sure? If anything, you can use these as taping aids and then paint them?!
  4. Ah lawn darts, lets throw heavy and large metal darts in the air and not expect an accident. Those were the days, lol. I wanna see an intervention model that is an alcoholic/pill popping/syringe using/gun toting/Republicrat/bi-polar/manic depressive/obese/unemployed/man beating wreck. That would be one hell of an add!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. LOL, I have only built one of these, but I have 8 on the shelf waiting for a specific project for each one! Well ten if you count FXX's,lol. I have to trump the Tamiya Enzo by adding the SMS Full Detail Kit with every other option out there added to it. Wait, how about my Tamiya SLR with a complete Crazy Modeller set, and the SMS CF Body set?! That is deemed harder by some. No No No, how bout my Desmo that has a complete set with a PE chain to build?! Maybe it will be the Gunze 250 GTO I am afraid of? This is a beast of a kit. Oh, I remember, it is basically every model I have. I cannot under any circumstance build an OOB. My builds range from "Ah not that ###### model again", to "I think it is about time to sell everything on EBay and take up puzzle building". I really wish I was a child again. I had no money to build anything other than a model in a box. Maybe that is what I need to get back too?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!
  6. Hope you never get a flat?!?!?!?! LOL Great and quick build!!!
  7. Sorry Dan to cause such a focus on the wings. I completely understand your build. It is for fun, and that is what counts!
  8. I have been reading MCM a long time. I know it started in '99, but I think I have been reading it for 4 years? I generally am glad I spend the money on it. There never has been an issue that made me disappointed in spending money on it. This is good as I have about 6 other magazines I get a month and some of those tick me off. I like the Ask G&J column just fine. Heck, it is kind of the foundation of the magazine. I love the Kit reviews, and I love the show coverage. But,.................YOU NEED TO GO TO FULL COLOR!!!! I know that printing costs are high, but the magazine is kind of pricey at retail stores. Please stop making MCM about nostalgia builds and anything pre 1972! There are indeed thousands of readers who are about the Rat Rods, and 32 High Boys, but there are an equal amount of Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche/Mazda/Nissan/Subaru,etc...... readers as well. I keep hoping that one day I will see a piece devoted to a builder of an Italian car that is more than a paragraph, and not just a Ferrari. On that note we need to see truck builds other than pre 1972 big rigs. We have been seeing an influx of wheeling rigs that would look great in your magazine. Most of these have to be custom so they are important on a lot of levels. Again, I know that they are not common, but to change it up a little would be great. Die cast is not what this magazine is about, neither is the main focus of this forum. The "Heavy Metal" section seems to be a filler section. I know it is a part of car modeling but not for most of us. I don't even think there is a sub-forum for die casts?!?!?! Make it bigger!!! I know that constitutes more effort, time, and money for supplies and employment but it could help. I am in no way a voice of knowledge in this field, but you asked so I told. Hopefully all of this will help. Above all, thank you both for doing the magazine and I love it and will always support it!!!!! Jon
  9. That is so hypocritical and ironic if you ask me. Well no-one did but I will say this. Tobacco and Liquor industries account for two of the largest industries in our wonderful country. Alcohol will never go away as it makes too much money, and tobacco will never go away even if it costs $14 a pack. People want what they want. To advertise these things is only part of our American culture. What makes it most funny is that they are losing money trying to not "promote" these vices to people. Until recently, I never noticed the removal of these items from advertising, let alone motorsports. But when I tried to buy a Mrlboro livery from an online store I was told I couldn't. Good thing I already have others to spare. Our laws are pretty messed up, I agree. I like how advertising alcohol and tobacco is illegal on models, but you can advertise models of prostitution on the vegas strip on billboards and trucks that drive up and down the Strip. The end is near my friends, lol. (well, it could be?!)
  10. Now that is a machine that I would be afraid of!!! Wow is all I can say. I love the custom headers and more inportantly the placement of the supercharger. This thing would be scary to say the least!!!!
  11. NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Just don't glue them together and use some Oven Off and take off the chrome. then clean and assemble them and repaint. You wont lose your lip and then you will have a better surface for paint to adhere to. Cool build by the way.
  12. Not to deter you but you will need to adjust the wings. If that were to be a real attempt at a land speed it would literally take off. But, it would not go too far up as it would probably flip and then...... Those wings still have too much lift. I am no expert, but you should either remove them, or change the angles at which they sit. Cool idea though, and I love the fact that a Warthog donated its heart.
  13. I love this car. I really am thinking about investing in a printer that will allow me to do these kinds of decals. I love my semi stock C6-r but this makes it so much more creative. great job!!!
  14. Ha ha ha. Popular to contrary belief, these tires are a nightmare in the snow. My friend has Boggers on his Jeep and it basically is like ice skating with 4 circular objects that roll if that makes sense. But in the mud and rocks, these babies are a dream. What is funny is that after hopping about 24 curbs my friend still has no winter tires?!?!?! LOL Glad to see another Jeep buildup. I think I might have to grab one of those Honcho kits. Looks like a great start you have there.
  15. I have the complete SLR set right next to me. Can you be more specific about which decals? You are not talking about the composite body decals from SMS are you? I have those as well if you need me to look at them.
  16. Those gassers are growing on me!!! BUt, you need to post what it is (I know I should know this car). Did you do a custom top? Looks like you have a great start.
  17. Having been working in the computer world a while I can say with out a doubt GET A MAC!!!! If you do though, get a couple basic books on how to use them to their potential. Many people buy them and never even use what they offer. The ILife Suite is great, the movie editors, the presentations, the music creators, the graphics, the speed, the no BS programs included, and they are beautiful machines. My money and experiences are on Mac.
  18. If I could really say what I wanted to I would get banned from this site!!!!! That is unbelievable work there. ###### I wish I could print my own graphics.
  19. Well, this should help. I wanted a 5.9 Liter block, but couldn't source one. So, an SRT-8 Magnum gave up the power and the brakes. Now I have started a new chapter of personal hell in getting this to fit in. But, so far it looks like it will clear with no problems. I guess the scale difference helps a little. Well, tell me what you think?! I am loving this beast, and am close to starting all of the body armor and bumpers and 1,000 other things to boot. At least I have Jeep factory paint to match mine!!!!! Thanks for looking guys and gals. Jon
  20. Then, I realized that none of this would work. The tires were too close to the shocks and would rub while flexing. So, I broke down the axles to the basic tubes again and lengthened them to make room. After that I had to cut the shock towers off and relocate them along the top of the frame. This is a pain!!!!!! Here she is with the hacked up body on the frame and all I can say is WOW!!! The ride height is exactly parallel to the ground, and the shocks function perfectly. Uh oh, what is that in the bay there?!?!?!?!?!!?! Any ideas?
  21. So, here is the almost complete rolling chassis. At least here it is before I redid almost everything. I wanted to add shock hoops instead of using simple lift springs. Coil overs are the way to go in the sport and mine will be this was as well. Shock hoops gotta have shocks. Once again I had to really think about this one. Based on various designs all I wanted was a body with a piston and some simple coil collars. So I came up with these: Here is how I "machined" the parts, lol. I have no lathe, but I have a hell of a lot of Styrene and a Dremel. So, here is how I made them Here is a test coil added to the shock. Believe me, all of this took a long time to get even close to testing. I still need to find a metal that retains memory to use for the coils.
  22. This has become such an undertaking that I was not even ready for. I got all excited and was trucking along when I realized that I am basically trying to replicate a real suspension. So along with that comes all of the real components. Lots of redoing and lots of broken axle pieces have found their way into the trash can. But, I am still at it. I know most of you will appreciate what I will show last!!!!!! The wheels were traditional "d" window steelies. I wanted 8-hole "soft 8's". I am not going to buy any so I decided to drill out the hubs and then the holes in each. Thankfully I had a drill bit that was perfect as they are now larger than what they look like in real life. Kind of like American Racing "Mohave" wheels. I want those some day as well. I also had to add a lip to the rims so that the tires could have something to secure to. I did this because the kit wheels simply glue to the backs of these awful looking hubs that would stick on the stock axles. Since I made these axles I needed a semi-realistic hub for each wheel. Well, the hubs are on the rims, lol. Well, I also needed some brakes. Since there were none in the kit(s) I had to bash a completely new kit of another unsaid vehicle that is also donating another important feature. Now the Jeep has 4 wheel disc brakes like a real Rubicon would. This thing has to turn as well, so that had to be designed as well. Like a real Jeep axle there are offset steering knuckles for the tie rod to attach to. This was a pain in the butt.
  23. Great project and execution so far. I have been building my own custom chassis too, and it takes a long time to get to where you are! I will definitely follow this one.
  24. Ah, the Mighty "Hot Dog" that Cappa basically destroyed in the Top Truck Challenge. I loved that build.
