If'n ones good, twos gotta be better
DonW replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not a dragster either, this one was supposed to go round corners too! Built to compete with the Silver Arrows Mercedes and Auto Union GP cars in 1935, even Nuvolari couldn't make it work. 2 supercharged twin overhead cam straight eights, both driving the rear wheels via a central diff and 2 propshafts. 540 bhp. One did record a flying 1/4 mile at 208mph but altogether two wasn't better than one this time! -
That's lovely! Beautiful artwork!

What also threw me was that the Packard 12 apparently had similar coachwork sometimes. I quote 'There is nothing like a Packard Twelve – the 473 Cubic inch engine is a marvel of smoothness and quietness'. And the Packard Super 8 was preceded by the Packard 120... But I went for Super 8, with some help from Mr P.! Where do you find the time, Harry! Cheers, -Don.

Thanks Michael! My very first BMW was a left hand drive 2002 that had flared arches like your lovely model, was lowered with a limited slip differential and a hot engine with a 300 degree camshaft and 2 twin choke 45 dcoe Weber carburettors on open bellmouths. I never found out the history of it and sadly it was written off in London by a drunk driver who drove into me. I used the engine and other good bits to make my first racer, with help from some friends. Sorry to hijack your thread, I love the Alfas too - my sister had two of the roadgoing GTVs, one after the other, back in the seventies. cheers, -Don.

There's just too much air going in and not enough able to escape. Everything else is so good, it's a shame if the end product will ends up as a balloon! Where does the air into the bonnet scoop go, if the side 'scoops' feed the induction system? The cooling system has enough air from the hole at the front, and the lucky occupants don't need to have to function at 0.8 bar!

Thanks. I reckon the BMW 2002 is the best all round car ever made! I look forward to the photos.

The last one's easy, it's a BMW! I've 'parked' some of them in silly places myself. But the first one is really baffling!

Fantastic. I have this picture hanging on the wall, the absolute master at work! I love your model, it does justice to the 1:1. -
Wow! What scale are they? What kits are they built from? Thanks for showing them.
-
Stunning! How fast does it go?

It's shaping up well, excpt for the vent above the wheelarch. Where does the air go that's going to get drawn in there? It needs to be an outlet, not an intake. Brilliant execution! Thanks.

And more power to your elbow!
-
I think it needs a strategy and a proper engine!

Is the spare 'Vette shell you have on the bench destined to get a rear-mounted flat six and swing axles?

I wish our trash was that exciting! What was that doing in there? Did it come from another dimension? It reminds me of the Stephen King novel 'From a Buick 8', I hope the cat is still OK.

PM sent. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but there is a lot of motor car there!

Fantastic! I built this in the early seventies, but my version is sadly long gone now. Renwall also did a 'visible V8':

Showboat Redux / Quarter Master...Update 11/23/13
DonW replied to Nitrozilla's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That's what I was getting at, Joe - the body did seem to rake down at the front too much, now I know why. Fools and children shouldn't see things half done! Thanks for you answer, I can't wait to see more. -Don. -
I did notice the ground effects sump pan... But at least it's on the shelf, instead of in bits on the far side of the room!
-
I stand corrected, thanks! I may not like the 1:1 but the model is being built beautifully!

The devil's in the detail! Nice. Is the chassis sorted, inc. the stance? -
A pot-pourri of the greats!

That's not a convertible, that's just got a sunroof. I'me sure they're marvellous. Same old same old.

Highly impractical (like, no room for a human) but BEAUTIFUL
DonW replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Auto Art
Its loosely based around a Bell X-1 from the forties so it's hardly a 30's design! Total fabrication. Yeah it's pretty but real things look better to me. -
The wheels had really thrown me, thanks for the link. I now know that Boswell made them himself to copy the Lambo design. He had square holes, Feruccio had triangles. Maybe that's where the strength came from...... Boswell makes me think of Roswell, who remembers that?
