  1. But it doesn't make a noise like a Harvard because the atmosphere is travelling at the same speed, subject to winds of course. Just as well really!
  2. 1973 Plymouth Fury. Great film!
  3. If a tiny person stood in the middle of the record as it turned they would not be moving at all, just spinning on their own axis. As they moved out to the edge of the record they would be going faster and faster relative to their surroundings, but they would still be spinning at the same RPM whatever position they were in. The tips of a Harvard propeller actually went supersonic, which gave that aeroplane it's distinctive sound.
  4. Thanks for the clarification - now I know what it is I see that the original didn't have the futurist bumper, headlights or cabin, and it all makes perfect sense. I enjoyed the search even though I didn't get there! .
  5. Once again can't wait to see what the answer is, there's a few clues but they all seem to point in different directions. It looks extremely big, to judge by the 'stang next to it!
  6. JMF won his first world championship when he was 40 years old, mainly due to WW2 and the general difficulties of getting into the big-time as an Argentinian, and won 4 more after that, against Moss, Ascari, Hawthorn, Farina and many more top class drivers. And he remained utterly modest and a great sportsman. But it's great to hear everyone else's favourites - they were all masters of their chosen field.
  7. It rings a bell somewhere in the depths of my memory... not got the answer yet!
  8. Sounds like you have to improve your research skills!
  9. 'by a man who had his arm partially severed in rally crash just a few years ago.'. There's a bit of a clue there. Not the best, just the bravest / most stupid (delete as preferred).
  10. India is after all very tiny.
  11. Good game, good game!
  12. Good one Harry!
  13. Perhaps he should stick to the polo shirts.
  14. Bill - Spot on! Along with the cut down coils we also fitted a set of stiffer Koni shockers because the now stiffer springs needed better control. And the cornering was improved because as you say the loaded wheels were square to the track. Don't stop the tech stuff! -Don.
  15. We lowered my first racer by cutting the same amount out of each of the coil springs - but took them off the car first, then we did paint them before refitting so they'd last more than 10 minutes in the English rain! Cost about tuppence and worked fine although we had to use straps to stop the suspension dropping too far if the car lifted a wheel off a kerb or something, otherwise the springs would fall out of the pan. That gave useful extra negative camber on the back (trailing arms), not excessive though!
  16. I agree with both points Skip, I think these changes would get more people into other genres which can't be bad. Is there a man who can, Harry (subject to a members poll of course)? BTW almost forgot to add - another museum class model I reckon, Harry!
  17. Hi Cameron If you go that route, you'll end up good friends with your dentist! The bigger the rim diameter the harder the ride. My theory is that we're being steered towards the big rims so we use less rubber, good for the environment - but note that F1 cars' wheels have pretty deep sidewalls, 'cos they're built for real world performance and handling. But to each their own!
  18. I love that book. The revolution will be for real.
  19. Bugatti never used chrome. Fabulous car, but chrome is wrong!
  20. Favourite car and driver JMF 250F
  21. I bought a bourgeois house in the Hollywood hills With a trunkload of hundred thousand dollar bills Man came by to hook up my cable TV We settled in for the night my baby and me We switched 'round and 'round 'til half-past down There was fifty-seven channels and nothin' on Well now home entertainment was my baby's wish So I hopped into town for a satellite dish I tied it to the top of my Japanese car I came home and I pointed it out into the stars A message came back from the great beyond There's fifty-seven channels and nothin' on Well we might' a made some friends with some billionaires We might' a got all nice and friendly If we'd made it upstairs All I got was a note that said "Bye-bye John Our love is fifty-seven channels and nothin' on" So I bought a .44 magnum it was solid steel cast And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast 'Til my TV lay in pieces there at my feet And they busted me for disturbin' the almighty peace Judge said "What you got in your defense son ?" "Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on" I can see by your eyes friend you're just about gone Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on Fifty-seven channels and nothin'...
  22. Looks like someone gave it a parking ticket! Best thing on the vehicle!
  23. Beautiful. So it runs without a roll hoop or cage? Brave driver!
  24. I first thought the Macho labelling was a bit self-conscious - imagine Clint Eastwood wearing a 'Macho' t-shirt - kinda goes without saying... but then I googled it and I understand a bit more - these things were designed to put some of the grunt back that the emissions laws had sapped, with turbochargers etc. I'd probably still delete the stickers and settle for the stuff under the hood though! Good luck with the project, Brandon.
