  1. I'd say they already are, ever since Rubber Soul and Sergeant Pepper!
  2. Fair enough John! On a similar note(!) the Sisters of Mercy use a drum machine, they call it Doktor Avalanche and it seems to have the same status as the rest of the band. No I don't like their music much!
  3. They usually had 1500cc or 1700cc 4-cyl Ford engines but built one with a 427!:
  4. I saw them live supporting the Stones way back in the 1980s, in Bristol. They were good. But the strongest memory is of Mick asking us all to respect the wishes of the residents of the city and leave as quietly as possible once the curfew time was reached, apparently there had been a lot of concern about noise. So we're all dispersing like Mick asked - then the Stones crew started the most monumental firework display that shook Bristol to it's foundations for many long minutes. There were hundreds of complaints from the good citizens, but you just don't tell the Stones to leave quietly! Apart from that, I'm fed up with people saying the Beatles / Stones / (enter successful band of your choice) were talentless. It takes massive talent and commitment for anyone to write, produce, perform and sell their own material, you have to be deliberately obtuse to deny that. You may not like it, that's another very different matter.
  5. Each to their own, you may not like the Beatles or their music but you can't deny their talent. I'm not a Stevie Wonder fan - but I respect his talent. Personally I like hard rock and psychedelic music, but that goes from Motorhead to Bob Dylan, the Doors, Joplin, Zeppelin, Hawkwind, the Stones, and the Beatles - I could go on! There's a lot of good stuff out there for everyone.
  6. Yeah it's a great shame. We had a couple of these in the UK recently, one swallowed a car (not a 'Vette thankfully!), the other got some poor guy who was in his bed - they never found him... It's tragic about the museum cars, but am I right that no-one was hurt? How much warning do these things give people?
  7. Isn't it lovely though! Pretty rigid looking body too with no openings apart from bonnet (hood!) and 2 doors.
  8. Ken have you got any pictures? What happened to it? Nice build, Kasey -Don.
  9. We often have lots of snow here in South Wales in wintertime, but not this year. This morning for the first time this winter there was snow on the mountains and we had a few minutes of sleet but that was it. Sympathy to those of you who are suffering an excess of the stuff, not to mention the media scaremongering! My wife just brought me a mince pie that she just baked, and a teapot. I was on the 'phone and for some reason I assumed the teapot had custard in it (she often does that) so I poured it over the mince pie. It had tea in it of course!
  10. Got it! Great choice Harry, PM sent.
  11. Lovely. I had a bit of trouble with mating body and chassis on mine but it turned out OK in the end.
  12. Hi Paul Welcome to the forum, it's an oasis of sanity, most of the time! -Don.
  13. And it was styled by Italdesign Giugiaro and yet looks terrible, how did that happen? Next time can we have one with at least 400bhp please Harry!
  14. We did, Harry! Good one, though! -Don.
  15. It's a great build as ever Harry - but why are you using the (smaller and less powerful engine) from a Mercer raceabout in a Stutz? I hope this isn't a silly question and I certainly don't want to give offence! just interested.. -Don.
  16. This is getting a little surreal... Cheers Wayne!
  17. Well done Pete.To some car owners a Chevy Nova or a Ford Popular would be obscure. Depends where you're coming from I guess. it was certainly pretty obscure to me too!
  18. If it was my 1:1 I'd put a battery on it! Don't want to wait for the starter truck every time... It's beautiful.
  19. Hi Jairus No offence meant, the old aero engines are passion of mine too...! Anyway, I hope this build goes ahead in whatever shape or form.
  20. Yeah, will it end with all the parts stripped and stuck back on the sprues, bagged up inside the sealed up box?
  21. I don't know what the first piston engine to give over 2000hp was but the Rolls Royce 'R' type gave almost 2800hp in 1929, and the first Napier Sabre didn't exceed 2000hp until March 1938. Admittedly the 'R' type was a racing engine and the Sabre was intended for longer term use. From Wikipedia: The first Sabre engines were ready for testing in January 1938, although they were limited to 1,350 hp (1,000 kW). By March, they were already passing tests at 2,050 hp (1,500 kW), and by June 1940, when the Sabre passed the Air Ministry's 100-hour test, the first production versions were delivering 2,200 hp (1,640 kW) from their 2,238 cubic inch (37 litre) displacements The Rolls-Royce R was a British aero engine designed and built specifically for air racing purposes by Rolls-Royce Limited. Nineteen R engines were assembled in a limited production run between 1929 and 1931. Developed from the Rolls-Royce Buzzard, it was a 37-litre (2,240 cu in) capacity, supercharged V-12 capable of producing just under 2,800 horsepower (2,090 kW), and weighed 1,640 pounds (770 kg).
  22. Lane hogs are a problem in the UK too. The law here is that the outside lane(s) are for overtaking only but a lot of people seem to stick in the middle lane regardless, turning a 3 lane highway into a 2 lane. And there are some who resent it when you flash your lights or blow your horn to get them to move over, giving rude hand signs or even braking hard then accelerating...
  23. All pros so far then!
  24. You could even use the cockpit assembly with the coupe shell over the top of it, drop the whole lot into a suitably strengthened rolling chassis... and also complete the 'plane as a kerbside air racer with a cut down very dark tinted Perspex canopy!
  25. Better luck this time around! Does the planned engine match your 1:1?
