  1. Thank you all for your kind words. I am working my way into an automotive build sometime within the next year. I've been building scale model aircraft, usually Luftwaffe stuff, since about February of last year. I am in the middle of an SBD Dauntless right now, an Fw190 D-9(in which I already have the nose section/ engine build up completed) starting on 01 Jan 14 for a Group Build I'm running and then a Stuka around the May time frame for another Group Build. I'm planning on building the Revell Mustang LX after that and I'm really looking forward to that. At this point my main weakness is applying a realistic shiny gloss coat.
  2. I know the feeling Wayne! Barracuda gets the best of em most of the time!!!! Today the dealership is letting alot of stuff through. I'm sure it wont last!!
  3. I appreciate the help with making the pic lighter Harry. Thanks for the comments guys!
  4. Just finished this puppy up after 8-1/2 months. Lots of trials here with this kit but Eduard stuff is friggin awesome when you get done. I decided to open all the panels up. The engine has around 70+ parts of PE and plastic(more than what shows through the open panels). The cock pit I lost count on the parts in that area. Paint was completed with Vallejo acrylics. The Royal Class kits (which this is one) come with 4 sheets of PE in the box. I added a set of Ultracast wheels, Master Models brass cowl gun barrels, 20mm wing root gun barrels and 30mm outer wing gun barrels. Aerial antenna is stretched sprue painted black. The pictures are a little dark due to the type of camera that I have coupled with my lighting. Please forgive me on that. Thanks for looking , Joe A speical thanks to Harry for lightening these pics up so that you can actually see the build.
  5. Nice build! Likin' the detail under the hood!
  6. Option 2--hands down---and the red looks killer James!!
  7. Those are friggin nice Vance. Welcome to the forum! I just joined yesterday so this is from one "newbie" to another.
  8. Hey geemoney , Trumpeter has released a couple of falcon models. Check either Sprue Brothers or Squadron. I believe they just got released last year.
  9. Cool! What an opportunity. I wished I had half of what I built as a kid.
  10. Welcome aboard Tom. Just got here myself just yesterday. Believe me, ALOT has changed and for the better. All kinds of aftermarket stuff from photo etch to resin. Its a whole different world now but man am I enjoying it so far.
  11. Hey guys. I'm new to this forum and this thread is what drew me here. Just wanted to add a comment and say that interior is da bomb! Nice work on the seats. Did you say you used a light coat of future for the vinyl sides of the seats?
  12. Thanks Erik. Your build and the comments back to you is what drew me to this forum. Will be keeping an eye on your WIP.
  13. Military stuff is what I'm used to and man this one's one for the books. Great weathering, finish and detail!
  14. Thanks for the replies so far fellas and I'll check that review out there Casey. I really can't wait to break out the x acto blade and airbrush on this thing. The one weakness I have in modeling right now is how to achieve a high gloss finish without making the paint coat a 1/4 inch thick!!
  15. I've seen a picture or so of the engine/ transmission assy during a build and it looks decent. I'm a stikler for detail, especially in the engine area of cars or aircraft. I get just stooopid in this area of a build.
  16. Thanks for the warm welcome folks! I'll have a few pictures up and running as to where it stands right now. I'm not going to be modifiying this one any. Just restoring it back to the way it was. I'll be doing more with the upcoming Mustang LX build.
  17. I am going to be acquiring one of these bad boys in the next couple of weeks and was wondering what the high points and low points of this kit are from those who have built / are building it. Having owned one of these things for around 10 years I'm looking forward to replicating that car. Thanks in advance , Joe
  18. My name is Joe and as the title says I'm from Corpus. Saw a thread on the internet and after reading the builders topic (Erik) on building a 1990 Mustang LX and seeing all of the friendly and helpful comments and conversation , thought I would join this forum. I build primarily 1/48 scale WWII aircraft but manage to slip a car build in here and there. I have been tinkering with a repair/ restoration of a 70 Dodge Challenger that I built when I was 14 years old which has been 31 years ago. I gave it to my brother (who I originally built the car for) about 5 years ago and he shelved it in the closet where my nephew accidentally knocked it off the shelf and you can guess what happened from there. I've got it pieced mostly back together and bought another kit to help in replacing some of the parts that could not be found in the "crash". I have been building plastic models since I was about 11 or 12 years old and have been on and off with it over the past 12 years. Ever since last January the bug hit me really hard and I started building again on a continuous basis. I am currently a member of the FineScale Model forum where I currently host a Fw190 Butcher Bird Group build so I am no stranger to forums. I look forward to interacting with everybody here on a subject that I feel I need to learn a lot about concerning automotive model building.
