Ok fellas. Been a few days since I have been here posting. Been busy with obtaining another job, my sons homework and all the other daily hustle and bustle activities we all have. I am still waiting on my squadron letter/ number decals that should be here any day now I hope. I'm running out of stuff to do to this thing. I think I have managed to work around the decals to the point that I'm at a stoppage. Here's the best close up shot of what I have on the bird so far. I've been working on the camera settings so they are less grainy. And here's everything minus the pitot tube and the tire/ wheel assys. I'll get back those two items in the next post!

..............and after applying some of the decals. These Hasegawa decals aint no joke........especially at 15 years old (not to mention that the kit box had already been opened when I bought the kit!). They refused to lay down flat against the rivets and had NUMEROUS air bubbles in them which may have been helped by all that raised rivet detail that I was talking back a few posts earlier. However, after about 8 coats of Microsol and piercing all of the bubbles I think I have it under control. One more thing: I had the WRONG decal sheet in the box so I am now waiting on my Yellow Wings squadron letter/ number decal sheet that I just ordered from Hannants on Thursday. The decal sheet in the box was for an SBD-3 . Man you would think that I would have noticed that by now!!! LOL Anyways on with the pics. Here they are still wet from the Microsol and shriveled up a bit but I'll post more later:

Thanks Harry! More to come tomorrow morning as I am still in the middle of making adjustments to paint. Until then I got this in the mail yesterday!!!! This things gonna be ALOT of fun as I haven't attempted a car model in almost 10 years. I've got to finish this build and my Fw190 D-9 and I'll be ready to tackle this one. That'll give me enough time to gather all the goodies for it!

You definitely get an "A" for creativeness on this one. The curtains give a nice effect as does the worn black finish. Us ex-field artillery folks wouldn't have a problem being transported to gravesite in something like this instead of a Cadillac! Good job Edward!

Ok guys. Back at it again here. The first pic is of the corrected paint job with the sharp demarcation lines between colors: and the second and third pics close up with the soft/ blended demarcation lines: (the gap at the lower part of the tail plane was fixed right after snapping this pic! Thats as close as I can get to the reference picture. If there's one thing that I like about these old Monogram aircraft kits , it's the rivet detail on the exterior of the aircraft. The insides and all the other stuff leave a lot to be desired but who and where else puts rivet detail on the outside of an aircraft model anymore. Anyway, I feel a lot better about the accuracy of the paint job now!

You know Johann I've not built any WWI aircraft kits yet. I have a high respect for the builders because of all the rigging and the wood replication but haven't tried one. At this point I'm sticking mainly with Luftwaffe stuff but do jog it up every once in a while with a Pacific plane build. I've got an SBD Dauntless I'm working on right now but its a Monogram with a lot of parts from the Hasegawa kit to spice it up a bit. Maybe one day I'll tackle a WWI build but for now I'll hold out for that Eduard 109 G-6 that's supposed to be released in 14.

Thank you Ira! I've got some more to do in the morning in correcting what I painted in the pictures posted above. I have the entire upper surface painted in dark blue and the bottom of the nose in dark blue also. The reference below shows the vertical fin to be intermediate blue, not dark blue and the edges are soft and blended. This will be corrected in the morning. Be back then, same bat time, same bat channel!!

Now this is raw talent!!! This is modeling at its best right here! Figure painting takes a lot of skill to get the shades and blending of paint, shadows and make it all look realistic. I'm Liking the paint, the theme, the imagination and skill required to put something like this together and make it look this good. Awesome work Wayne!!! You da man!!!

Thanks Wayne. I'm going to treat the border like the German mottle pattern when I repaint. I usually mix the paint super thin, crank the air pressure up to about 30-35 psi and barely open the needle AND keep the air brush moving!!! and that'll give me that soft demarcation line between colors instead of a hard edge. ..............and it's better I find this all out about the color now instead of after decaling!!! lol

You know , looking at the references sometimes a little closer AFTER the painting is done is painful sometimes. The vertical fin should be painted the lighter intermediate blue and the lower part of the nose should be the lighter color as well. Will post pics of the references and the corrected paint tomorrow. WOW!!!

Thanks the comments Wayne! You know part of building these old warbirds is a constant learning experience. I get a blast out of building them because I do ALOT of reading when I build each subject. It's as much fun learning about them as it is building. I used Vallejo acrylics on this build and was not happy that the "intermediate blue" was actually a dark color. I used this for the top coat and then mixed some "intermediate blue" with some "sky blue", which was ALOT lighter and came up with the middle color which intermediate blue is SUPPOSED to look like. Here's the latest: and the canopy frames got a Tamiya tape masking after being dipped in future. No pre-cut masks here. . I painted them a coat of zinc chromate first so the interior color could be seen from the inside of the canopy and then a coat of "intermediate blue". The canopy came as two pieces: the windscreen through intermediate section and then the gunners canopy. I cut the sections apart to display the pilots sliding piece in the open position. The windscreen turned out like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH for this painting segment so I dipped it into Windex and will start over on that part tomorrow.

I've been checking in to that ever since that post was made here. There's a Johan thread here that I've been following and noticed some good builds to include the Turbine. The more I build and hang around places like this I'm seeing that pure skill and and bold persistence play large parts in a successful build. I'm building a Monogram SBD Dauntless right now and it's nice to have an "easy" one for a change!

Thanks Wayne! Well I glued both fuselage halves together and managed to get the top part of the fuselage painted. I went with intermediate blue because the dark sea blue was just WAY too dark I think. Any how here's the before and after pics. (I don't know why some photos come out grainy...erks me to pieces!!) Here's before: and after

Not bad at all! I used to work on these things when they were still coming into my GM dealer in Dallas. Good detail!
