Who else has had a disaster build?
mustang1989 replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I dunno if I'd take it that far but I see your point as well as see Tom's there. I recently used the Weekend Madness GB (48 hrs) as an ice breaker for my son who's just getting started with Snap-Tite kits. He just got done building a Revell Star Wars V-19 Torrent kit in the WM GB over at FSM. For me it would be done in 20 minutes but for my 9 year old son to build it by himself AND do it in a GB was pretty cool for me and totally awesome to lil' Joe. I thought about joining another WM GB but it would be with a fairly simple kit like a vintage Monogram aircraft in 1/48 scale. Anything else would be almost impossible , i.e. Eduard, Trumpeter........you get the picture. Good points by Tom and you though. -

24 hr GB? Wow I've been involved in the Weekend Madness GB over at FSM but never a 24 hour GB! I'm usually just wrapping up washing the sprues in soap and water and starting engine build up basics at the 24 hour mark!!!!!!! -

It's not "terrible" but it's got its fair share of challenges. If you know what your'e getting into ahead of time, plan the build out and are decent with body work it yeilds a great build along with some aftermarket stuff. I don't know if all Trumpy kits have the ejector pin mark disease but this one did. Patience, alot of putty and some elbow grease hid alot of em. Here's a shot of the inside of a landing gear door just to show you:(and don't let this discourage you from buying one...this plane looks great under glass.) -

Another amen plus an opportunity for a challenge! ...........and yes I've had one. I built a 1/24 Bf109 K-4 Kit from Trumpeter that almost became a lawn dart a couple of times. Poor fit, TONS of ejector pin marks in all the wrong places and gaps out the ying yang!!! Pulled the build out of disaster status though! -
Car manufacturers bailing out of Oz...
mustang1989 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I got to thinking about it later and youre right about the money. I'm not going to put this conversation on a more personal level because I work for GM and thats not what the thread was intended for so I'll just say this. Doing things in the interest of money only has it's consequences sometimes. For the sake of staying on topic, we put a Chevrolet badge on a car that mostly aint made here in the name of the almighty dollar. I'm just looking forward to seeing what the good ol' boys here can do with that same dollar they've made. -

I have worked for General Motors for a while now and I will say that there are a few things coming from Holden that were decent from a driver stand point. All of the following is dealing with just GM alone. I can't really speak for Ford or Toyota. Without Holden, the Camaro would have probably still been on the drawing board or not nearly as good(with the past efforts). The Pontiac G8 would have never been (and folks these things really suck to work on but are a family car/ performance car that is halfway practical AND hauls "A"!!) almost forgot the G8 is Holden based too-------Jeez!!. All of this is my opinion here but before Camaro all we had was stuff like a Corvette (which are awesome cars but the "John Q" majority has a hard time coming up with 65+K for a non-family practical 2 seater) the G8 (which Pontiac got flushed down the toilet in 09 so one less Holden platform), Buick?..........(well not yet anyway)......., trucks with 400+ hp but weigh as much as a tank, but look good. The Trailblazer SS was a good idea but the same bodied SSR was a friggin joke( from a sales standpoint). The Cobalt SS is ok for a four banger which sold decent and the new SS from Chevrolet has got potential but again has the Holden name involved. Maybe this new CEO of GM has got an idea to put the folks at GM hard to work and come up with a desirable looking sports car that's affordable and built here in America. Let me say that again................................BUILT HERE IN AMERICA. Again my opinion but if its got a Chevrolet badge or any other domestic badge on it my feeling is it should be BUILT HERE. Our truck line is pretty solid and they are built here. Why shouldn't our performance car offerings be the same way? Again the Corvette is a great and proven car but it's considered an exotic and the John Q on average, 1.) Can't afford it and 2.) Can't use it. Honestly I think we should drop Holden because we Americans are some pretty smart folks. I'm sure we can come up with a good plan to build an affordable sports car we can call our own. Just my -
You came to a great community to learn! Lot's of knowledge and experience here and if you hang out enough and this stuff will rub off! You will get to where you want to be with building that's for sure.

Scale Finishes Airbrush Primer

Mr Surfacer 1200 or 1500 is supposed to be pretty good stuff and from what I understand it doesn't take very long to dry either. Plus it flows pretty smooth out of the airbrush. Only thin it with Mr. leveling thinner or Mr. Color thinner. Don't use cheap lacquer thinners. Only for clean-up. -

Hey everybody. It seems that there is enough interest and enough folks gathered together to make this build happen. So with that welcome to the 2014 "All the Rest" Community Build. I threw this thing together on a whim due to all the activity that I've noticed over the course of the last couple of months in the "All the Rest" section of this forum and I've gotta say there is some good stuff coming from there. So why not make a community build dedicated to that kind of stuff? I decided to give it a try. I'm not perfect so if I make a mistake , forget somebody or forget to do something lemme know and I'll get it hammered out. Additionally I run a fairly lax set of rules to a community build. All thats asked is that the participants be social and encouraging and if you have the time while posting pics , explain some of your work. I love learning all I can about building plastic models (and sometimes I'm a little slow-especially in the morning-) and need it broken down for me. The rules are simple and are as follows: The build dates are now from 01 Feb, 2014 thru 02 Feb, 2015 Now extended to April 31st 1.) Any scale and anything that fits in the "All the Rest" category 2.) Use as many aftermarke items as you want to or none. It's up to you so the sky's the limit here. 3.) Started builds are ok, just try to limit it to about 25% complete. Example:(I build primarily aircraft so this is the only example I have right now): An aircraft build is about 25% complete at the fuselage halves joiined together. If all else fails just use your own judgement on how much 25% complete is. 4.)You can enter at any time within the community build time frame. 5.) Please post pics of progress. 6.) This is the biggie. Be social, encouraging and have fun. So with that it looks like we have the makings of a fun build here. As particpants finish their builds I'll be posting the completed pictures on a "Wall of Fame" post in the posts that are reserved below. I look forward to seeing you guys here building starting on the first of February. Here's the list I have so far of the participants and their builds. Again if I get something wrong or forget something or somebody just let me know. 1.) mustang 1989: 1/48 Tamiya Focke Wulf Fw190 D-9 2.) Whats the weirdest kit in your stash?
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know Larry when I started this thread I thought I had a weird one. That all changed when I started scrolling down through the kits that kept showing up! LOL -
Don't remember this one.
mustang1989 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now this definitely could qualify for the "weirdest kit in your stash" thread. I've never seen this! -
