Here's engine build up after being mostly assembled. Exhausts were at first painted a metallic silver, then sprayed with a light coat of rust to allow some of the metallic color to "bleed" through, a light wash applied and then ground up black pastel was dry brushed to the #2 thru #6 exhaust outlets for that soot effect. and the other side:

Aww man you done made me bust out the research stuff! First off that's a nice spread of models. I really like the SBD and Texan aircraft. Just something about the lines of those airframes that just plain look good. I believe that SBD kit is a Hawk/ Testors 1/72 kit. There were a range 72nd kits with Airfix, Testors, Aosshima and Hasegawa in the line up. The rear guns here are the give away to Testors being the manufacturer. Aside from all that stuff that's a good paint job on the SBD-3 Eric.

Ok these pics are of the supercharger/ engine accessory gear box. This part was a blast to build and is complete down to lubrication lines. If anybody is wondering if they have seen these pics before here............they have. I started this build last year and put it off for a GB at another site and then put it off again for the GB here. I'll be caught up after I post the completed engine /nose module pictures.

This is with the CMK tailwheel retracting mechanism "guts" in their undercarraige set for this bird. I simply could NOT resist doing this. The fuselage is together with no cockpit assembled yet. The assist spring that came with the CMK kit SUCKED so I bought some guitar string, cut to proper length, painted steel and applied a MIG productions dark wash to the spring.

Ok fellas I'm going to kick this thing off with a little recap of this kit. I had already started this kit last November but put it on freeze for another GB thats going on elsewhere and then again for this GB. Here's where it all started. My Tamiya Fw190 D-9 fuselage halves laid out together before any cutting took place: and after carving the front of the plane from the fuselage and the tail fin access panel from the tail: This'll be the update that I'll be using for this beauty:

Wayne:Now that's an in depth weathering tutorial there! I remember seeing something like that on a Vallejo dvd that I have here at the house. I've watched it about 3 or 4 times just for retention sake. You've added a couple of things that aint on that video though. Thanks for sharing that info and look forward to seeing it in action. Jason:Wow! Thats a high parts count from what I can see! I've got a couple of those crushed boxes but contents ok kits too. lol

Thanks Jim! Alot of the detail was robbed from the Hasegawa SBD-4 kit I had in the stash. Monogram certainly didn't go to any length to offer any detail in the cockpit area thats for sure but, hey, aint that what kit bashing is all about? I'm just glad I had a decent kit to "go to " for the extra detail.

your work bench
mustang1989 replied to dabelltoller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Greg:Thanks for the congrats. I've got plans for where to move my bench to. I may have to split it up a little but plans none the less. Richard: That bench looks sharp. Sometimes I wished I had a set up like that to make it more living room friendly. Al: Nice bench and nice aircraft stash!!
