Progress report here guys. I started building the L/H and R/H walls of the cockpit. I shot a coat of enamel "rattle can " silver on and allowed to dry. I then followed up with a coat of acrylic RLM 02 light grey and let that dry. After that I carefully scraped away some of the gray with a toothpick to reveal the aluminum (silver) underneath to give the initial worn look. Then I picked out some of the details with a coat of flat black mixed with a little grey. After that came a coat of Mig Productions dark wash thinned down just a bit more to not over do on the wash. Here's before the details: After this phase I installed the PE details you see here like the oxygen bottles, gauges, control levers and ammo drums. Then I picked out the highlights and corners with some dry brushing of aluminum and hit some of the other finer points with a silver lead pencil followed by a dulling with brushed on ground up black pastel.

Well its Stuka time. I started off with the cockpit flooring. I have an Aires "double throw down " update kit for this aircraft as well. The Aires flooring has some fit issues that I definitely did NOT like. The length and width of it are way off so I'm going to do a little mod to correct the issue. In the picture below, the Aires part is on the left and the Hasegawa on the right: As you can see there are significant sizing issues that result in NO fit into the fuselage concerning the length. What is not readily visible is the WIDTH concern. It doesn't fit that way either. Oh well, time for a little surgery!!! My goal is to remove the raised detail from the Hasegawa flooring by sanding it all off : and then removing the detail from the Aires floor and transferring it over to the Hasegawa floor. Here we are at work on that........... Here we are with the usable detail: and here it is on the Hasegawa flooring: The small imperfection at the L/H front of the flooring just behind the front "leg" of the raised detail is of no importance. I started to fix it but that area is going to be covered up by other detail coming up.

Now THAT is friggin' cool!! As the others have said, I aint seen that in years!! I'll get this in the intro pronto!! Dave, first off thank you for being in this CB. Secondly I'd like to extend a further invite to stick around and build something else if you feel like because you're certainly welcome here.

Thanks to Carl, Bruce, Wayne, Harry P, Jim and Tony for the very encouraging comments. You know when I started this build I wanted to not only display a high level of detail but use the opportunity to display and pull off a paint scheme that beat all my past paint works. I built an SBD Dauntless that I shared with all of you a few months ago and that was the test bed for alot of the new techniques that I incorporated into this build. The engine area of this build here was fairly difficult and took me about a month to build and weather but the real work that was involved was in the paint and was by far the most time consuming and tedious of any I have attempted in the past. Again thank you all for your comments and for looking!

Although of not that great of quality I'll throw this pic in to show what detail I can of the cockpit and wing root cannon. I'll work to resolve my close up shots. They turn out like this from time to time: and then theres the shot of the vertical fin access panel. For the retracting spring I used a section of guitar string, painted it and applied a wash to bring out the "coils"

I just finished this up in the "All the Rest" Community build and thought I would post it out here to share. I started off with a Tamiya Fw190 D-9, cut the nose off and replaced what was missing with a Jumo 213 inverted V-12 engine/ mounting from an Aires engine / cockpit set. I used limited cockpit parts from the set due to the fact that I had a spare Eduard Fw190 A8/R2 kit to rob some awesome PE parts and detailed plastic parts from( Will get to that later). I also opened up one wing root cannon on the port side of the aircraft and used CMK's undercarraige update set to display the tailwheel retracting mechanism through the access panel on the port side of the tail fin. The landing gear got a total upgrade due to Tamiyas inherent problem with the landing gear being WAY too short on these kits. I used the Eduard landing gear struts and doors from my spare kit to correct that issue. Also used from my spare Eduard 190 kit were the sliding canopy section (just alot of detail in those things), the instrument panel(to include PE) , control stick, rudder pedals (PE), wing root cannon access panel and I ended up ordering a spare Eduard 190D-9 kit and using the cowl machine gun access cover out of it due to the fact that the Aires panel just literall sucked, but already ordered my replacment part to once again complete that kit and have another D-9 to build. The parts used from the spare kit were just too good to NOT use. Paints are Vallejo Air acrylic on the exterior and Model Master acrylics throughout the interior and nose section of the aircraft. All in all I had a good time with this build until it came time for the Aires engine access panels but I made it throught it ok. Anyways here she is:

Man! There's completed builds popping up all over the place!! Excellent build Wayne! Were the welds already there on the turret or did you add those yourself? Thank you all for the "atta boys" on the completed 190! I'm probably going to be building another 190 D-9 in the future but it'll be the Eduard build....and it'll be after my Stuka and the Eduard 109 G Royal Class kit that'll be coming out in the latter part of the year.

Ok Wayne you were talking about glamour shots. Guys I have officially finished this Fw190 D-9. This one has been an absolute joy to build which tells me that I'm getting somewhat better at this whole thing here. My first one dang near killed me! The first shot here is not a glamour shot but it was a pretty day outside and I couldn't help but take a scale reference photo in the middle of my engine panel installation. The rest are , as Wayne refers to as, the glamour shots. lol The nose module went on mostly without a gliche. I must have test fitted that thing a hundred times only to have it give me some trouble on the "glue run". I managed to find the right combination to where it slipped right in though. The Aires update set gets a true thumbs up on this Tamiya build for minimal fit issues. And now ............it's off to the Stuka!!!!
