If you're going to use a filter on it, while they are spendy, I wouldn't personally touch it with anything other than filters made by Imagenomic or Topaz. Alienskin MAYBE. It's pretty much an open offer. Obviously when I leave for training I won't be able to do it during that period of time, but after that I plan to have my laptop with me on the road.

Oh believe me I'm not justifying to anybody for squat. It started as a request to which engine paint color is closer to reality. Then it dawned on me oh wait a minute, custom truck. Also it's not possible to budget something that does not exist. Now back to the build. Got the axles painted a couple of days ago and forgot about them until I spotted them. The fun part of this is going to be getting all the wheels on the ground. My idea for that so far is to do the steer axle, the pusher, and then with those on wheels/tires, put the wheels and tires on the other two axles and then put the axles in place and use maybe some superglue and accelerator to lock them in, so I don't have any wheels lifted. If anyone has a better solution for this I'm ALL ears.

Going to go with a red interior. Hopefully get some done on the engine, don't have $$ for paint not sure to go with the paint that is on that engine in the photo or I have something MUCH lighter. I suppose since this is supposed to represent an owner rebuilt rig I can paint it whatever color I want. Doing the interior in red. Kyrlon Shortcuts Red Pepper to be specific.

True true. Hoping here early next month I'll be shipping off for training. Despite having to pay my own transpo and lodging for a week or two, looks like overall Knight is STILL going to take less startup dough due to the amount they pay during training(range), and the per mile they pay OTR with trainer.

I actually just dug up the one today. It is missing it's cover thanks to my kids. It is SAE Volume 5 Number 4, also known as November/December 1983. I know Mark also did a multipart rebuild with some tweaks in a few issues of Car Modeler. Aesthetically, I can't say as I really like it overall. Especially the backhalf, I don't particularly like the hard coded this has to be like this in order to be properly pleasing and everything else is a mistake kind of thing. However, that's just personal preference. The work on it though is outstanding, and I have no idea how he kept his sanity building it. I would have ran down the street screaming while pulling my hair out before hitting and wall and sitting with my arms wrapped around my legs rocking back and forth in a near catatonic state. The skill that went into it, in every aspect, both the original and the rebuild.

See what i read is the single drive 359 was a 259, so yeah CONFUSING! Or MAYBE JUST MAYBE, I just might be quite blind. I went and rechecked my reference. Man I MUST have been tired and I corrected it. Painted alcoa's, fleet truck so the chrome didn't work for it. I really didn't feel like doing the aluminum look. I've seen plenty of trucks(at least around here) with painted alcoa's, so my excuse is, it's a company that takes pride in their colors and wanted to increase fuel mileage so they bought alcoa's and painted them. That and it's different. I suppose it could also be someone's personal rig too. Doesn't have to be fleet. I needed the extra set of drive wheels, and I don't like to drop 40 bucks on a kit, just for a couple of parts, seems like a waste(growing up poor and living that way), so I said what the heck lets do a single drive and do something different. No real plans, just making it up as I go along. If I had thought about roadway being orange and blue I might have done it before I painted it like I did. Could be a what if. I want one of those little Freightliner kits to do an actual roadway with the roadway decals I have. I wish there were a bigger selection of truck kits, as there are alot of them from the truckstop I would like to replicate. Specifically the truck stop I worked at we had a contract with a few companies that their drivers never had to touch their rigs if they pulled in. We fueled them, we washed their windows, checked their oil and other fluids and topped them up as needed. The ones I remember most were Yellow Freight, and Batesville Casket Company. I THINK we also did Roadway as well. I swear I remember tipping forward some blue hoods. Come to think of it, not all of the Roadways had blue hoods, just most. The roadways and the Yellow's were DIRTY, and leaked, and were basically kept at the minimum level of maintenance to be roadworthy. The batesville trucks though, that's another story. They were ALWAYS clean and shiny, and VERY well kept. Though I do admit to some macabre creepiness when they pulled in. Most other trucks would NOT pull into a stall next to them, they would wait in line behind another rig first. Ok well I'll get off my tangent here. For those who might ask I worked at Burns Brothers in Troutdale Oregon, the one that is now a TA. When it was announced it was bought by TA, most of us left. Somewhere I still have one of my Burns Bros uniform shirts with my name on it. Wouldn't fit me anymore probably, but it's something I plan to keep.

Ok so kind of doing this as a fleet truck. Still workin progress, not sure which direction I'm really going to go with it yet. Suggestions are welcome. The blue and orange is how it's going though.

He's done it twice if I recall. Earlier in Car Modeler and later on in SAE. I actually have the old SAE it was done in somewhere around here. I'd love to post it up here just to tick off Jim Haught.

Roadrunner, if it has any sentimental value for you(and it looks like it might), I've done some amateur photo restoration work and I have what I need to do it. I wouldn't charge you anything. Might take me some time though, as I do have to reinstall some stuff. And I'm short on time these days. Let me know in a PM. Can't make any promises on my ability, but with a repaired photo you could print it out.

Spread Axle Flatbed Toolbox Dimensions.
fantacmet replied to fantacmet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well that's going to fly, I got it all dimensioned up and everything and it's 75 bucks to print hollow. NO WAY! I wouldn't be able to sell them at even HALF that cost. -
Spread Axle Flatbed Toolbox Dimensions.

Yeah I don't do the Canuckistan thing. Just kidding my Canadian friends. You know I love ya. If the spread is that far maybe I keep looking at Canadian flatbeds. -
So the toolbox that fits between the spread axles on the flatbed, about what would the dimensions be? I'm doing my flatbed trailer as a Spread Axle, and I want the toolboxes. I'm just eyeballing it, but so far I have about a scale 24 inches wide by 18 tall and 18 deep. I can't scratch a square box to save my life so I'm doing it in 3D intended for printing. I may put it up to be printable, not sure yet. I finally found a bit of modeling software that works close enough to the way I want it to work that I can actually start designing some stuff. So some simple stuff might be popping up who knows.

nta-370 vs ntc-350?

I think I have the perfect radiator to rob the top from, if not it's still easy enough to make. -

Lookin like a dandy so far. The only complaint I have is it will take too long. These take forever to build, but I understand it as I'm pained every night trying to get a couple done and it's slow going. -

Assuming I['m looking at the right part, that should be EASY! Looks like a radiator top. -

I have the cat for the KW W900, snap kit. Can't quite make it work, especially since I have the chassis all painted up now. Now about that aftercooler idea.....Pics between the two? If it's not too bad I might be able to do it. -

Unfortunately at this time I'm not in a position to purchase any resin or anything else. Gotta use what I have. -

Well I DID Buy a can of Hunter Green that was on sale, might look nice. My wife is off her job again and can't go back now because the old fella she was takin care of passed away the other day. So I can't go buy any new paint, gotta deal with what I have. I wonder if any of the decals I have around here would look good on this thing in Hunter Green, maybe a white access color, like white wheels. I'd like to do a Roadway rig, but I can't find any of these Macks, 1:1 in Roadway livery. -

It's not so much a vintage heavy heauler as it is, ssupposed to represent maybe late 90's early 2000's, maybe current day, someone who took an older rig, and rebuilt the entire thing, adding his own extra axle, his own stretch, etc. As such he uses it for heavy haul, because he doesn't like all the modern plastic, he likes classic trucks with a bit of a show style.
