Thanx Chuck- whoed a thunk you could make styrene rust? -
here you can see - from the kit contents- just how much imagination went into one of these builds. I suppose it was like one of those balsa wood bi-planes-I remember building one of those! all the best- Frank

I just wanted to share it here since we are interested in this ''old stuff'''. back when I built OLD 16 I was looking for the Hudson kit of said car. that is when I saw two built Hudson Models-on e bay- the Stutz and a superb Regal Underslung. I bid on both and won both as not many folks have interest or even know what these models are... the Gentleman who built them -named Phil-had a few additional Hudson kits listed and through our communications and mutual interest decided to just include them in the deal-what a great guy! that is the reason I say I ''inherited'' them. the models arrived unscathed despite how fragile they are. here are some pics of the Regal Coupe that is quite a masterpiece-all wood with opening doors-hinged and latched.[and an image of the real car] and I will let you get back to your project which I am enjoying immensely.

thanks for the wash effect story Harry.I forgot about the use of Future- I will try it on my next build. heres a little history for us builders of these ''RELICS'' . the Aurora Stutz in 1/16 scale was a spin off of this Hudson Miniatures Old Timers build which I recently inherited. this model was built back in 1950 and is mostly balsa and paper with scratch built hardware that the kit only supplied you with drawings to craft- it is still in one piece!. this is what started what we are all enjoying to this day. just for fun....

how do you do the wash on the lower engine parts?
-
excellent work on the leaf springs! I forgot about the rear end on the Lindberg car-which is much better in detail than the Aurora unit. this is coming together beautifully and with more exact details than either model car could supply right out of the box.....
-
absolutely beautiful work with the wood simulation effect-engine detailing-inside of headlights. this is the best finish I have seen on these old Aurora kits.
-
I am still laughing at Skips comment! but way to go Harry-after looking at the wheels from Aurora kit I agree with you! heres some pics of the lindberg engine a guy did here in California a few years back . one thing I thought he got right was the green color.
-
the real Stutz has a Wisconsin T Head engine. same style as the Mercer. because of the scale on the Mercer [slightly bigger in all respects] it should be just fine. you could probably get away with just changing the intake and exhaust manifolds. I assume you will use the wheels and tires from the Mercer as well-they are much nicer. I am excited about this build and would like to complement you on your SUPERB work. FS

P.S. the gas tank and tool box are mounted too high on the Aurora car. the actual model box shows a more authentic mounting level. the tool box is easy enough to saw off ,however for the tank to be lowered I cut the body where it glues to the frame so I could lower it mounts and all. the model I posted here is as Aurora supplied it [.tank and tool box too high].

extremely cool- that will look great in primer -
Hi Paul- and thanks...the cobwebs are the real deal- I let these sit out behind the house a few years and they decorated themselves!!! part of my process is natural ageing by the elements-sounds crazy but it works for me.
-
Ive built this one too...not such a bad model. the cobra blue car is very well done-looks real. my complements to the builder.
-
I feel the same way about the cars I build-definitely not the norm.[anything pre 1948 is my favorite subject] I like the larger scale and now I dont build below 1/18. this one could benefit from some more realistic wire wheels. just painting them black makes a big difference-I look foreward to seeing this build.
-
hey Skip. do you have any photos of the Duesy?? I would like to see it. and yes I think the Mercer is 1/8 to 1/10-it is bigger in scale if parked next to the Duesy.

the LeMans Jag trans kit came with the wheels included.accurate copies of the Dunlap racing wheels on the real car. I dont know about the green jag but they look very nice and the knock ons as well.

converted 1/18 1948 F-1 Ford pickup to 3 ton stake bed
f1ford48 replied to f1ford48's topic in Diecast Corner
Hi Tom- I narrowed the front axle on this one. the real F-7's and F-8's did have a wider fenders and grill though.this was supposed to be an F-6. -
Hi Tom- this was built long ago- I dont have any ''in progress'' photos. but I can tell you the stake bed is from the 34 ford 1/18 truck.. the running boards , 1/4 fenders and frame for the bed scratch built. a pretty easy conversion.
