  1. actually its a 37-38 Willys -a resin cast! if you are referring to the 1st car
  2. that is interesting- my old Aurora Bearcat did not have the rim clips. I think the later issues had more detailing added. the early ones {old timers] were moulded in yellow and brown- later issue[American Classics] were red and black this is definitely going to be a SHOW CAR and I bet there will be no other like it at the NNL.
  3. GOOD LORD_what have I started here! hope it doesnt go for a record price!
  4. yes-thats a neat original car- you can see it run on youtube .
  5. Check out ''project for Skip'' page 4 for the one I have. FS heres a Hudson OLD 16 from the www can you tell me some of the post' you have here so I can see your work?
  6. seats look great and correct. thats how the old timers did it ! how did you get the pinstripe on the tank side so perfect?
  7. Thanks Harry- that pretty much straightens it out. FS
  8. Thanks Skip- was going to post some additional pics of that too..however I am unable to upload images-I dont know what the problem is-I was going along fine and now the site says too big- it wont accept images till they are sized down to nothing and then the quality is lost-can anyone help me here? -is it my computer or the site? FS
  9. Thanks Again Rick-I make it a point to have semi gloss finishes and slight weathering, stone chips and general wear to add to the realism. maybe a giant O ring could be substituted for the FIAT tires-im surprised with the aftermarket upgrades out there that none are available -yet.
  10. Hello-Rick glad you like the build. I may have to start another thread as I am having trouble uploading images now. I have not heard of the Cleveland kits I will have to check them out. For the balsa part of the model I first primed it then used squadron white putty. it is nowhere near perfectly smooth but OLD 16 has lots of patina so it is acceptable. FS
  11. ..thanks Agent G.and welcome. HELP- I cant upload photos-What happened. ? editor says too big to upload but they have worked many times before-wont upload till I shrink them down to nothing.....is there something wrong with the site???????
  12. no-I have not . but I want to- since im stuck on Vanderbilt Cup Racers thats how I would make mine look. Vincenso Lancia was the FIAT driver in the Vanderbilt Races. so yes I would build his car. I guess the Mercer is about the same size? the only criticisim I have on the Pocher is the Tires-too skinny.
  13. I dont think Art is correct about the Bearcat- the gearbox mounted to the differential would be an advantage for traction and handling since these cars were light in the rear. and Bearcats had drum brakes with shoes -not external contracting- each axle had 4 shoes -2 for the foot pedal and 2 for the hand brake.
  14. sorry Skip-this is a MERCER RACEABOUT we are talking about here. there used to be a lot of rivalry-kinda like the difference between an MG and a mustang- back in the day. the Mercer was lower.handled better, a little more classy than the Stutz- the Stutz had a bit more power but was taller and did not handle as well. Mercer driver-looking at a Stutz : ''you've got to be nuts to drive a StutZ!!!'' Stutz drivers retort: '' there never was a worser car than a Mercer'' how do I know this stuff? anyway heres the model box.
  15. that engine is indeed a contest winner and I like the steering box too! the photo is so sharp of the exhaust manifold it looks like it has tiny pits-did you do that?
  16. even if it was built -its so big it could easily be restored.theres not much to the model. detailing and painting made it look a lot better than it actually is. the wheels and tires are moulded together for instance. and the dash is one piece-gauges and all. one thing nice about it is that it seems proportionally correct. that is what makes it look so real in the photos... the '11 and '12 Mercers were quite different from the later ones-especially noticable in the fenders-[not crowned]- it also looks like maybe the wheelbase was shorter on the earlier cars. the cool thing about this car is with some creative scratch building it could be a masterpiece! Harry I will keep my eyes out for one for you. my fellow brass era buddy here in NorCal built one also and he did his in dark red with white tires-will try to get a pic of that one too as it was exceptional. by the way the car is a little over 17 inches long and tires are 4'' diameter
  17. the reason I mentioned Maverick in the post is because the actual model box says.. just like on the tv show''maverick''. I have never seen the show-was James Garner in it? possible a few years before my time! it is an ITC model kit. circa 1962- IDEAL TOY COMPANY reissued a few times-this car is a first series with the plated parts-[red car on the box] later ones with the white car on box did not have plated parts. it has working headlights and cam-o-matic-action.-where a card is installed in the motor unit and the car runs and steers in various patterns.the motor unit is under the hood like the real car. the model was originally patterned from the Mercer owned by Austin Clark-owner of the Famous Long Island Automotive Museum. since there is some interest I will post the box top so you can see it. thanks for looking guys-it does look real doesnt it? oh oh oh .....also check out the other post a while back here in big boyz.
  18. good to meet you Rick .my sentiments exactly, except the F-1 is for the predecessor of the F-100. it also debuted in 1948. still love formula 1 though!!! I did build a 1/8 ITC MERCER, but nothing like a pocher yet.just posted it tonight in bigboyz. what a coincidence on your suggestion---im compiling parts to build a 1/8 deuce 5 window coupe-Stock! the wheels from the lindberg 3 in 1 T bucket are pretty good kelsey hayes copies but im sure i will be doing lots of scratch building! with whats left of the T kit im thinking of a stock 1/8 model T runabout or pickup-I just love trouble!!! let me think on the fiat engine-need to do more research for another idea for it- best Frank
  19. the car has been done for a couple years.I pinstriped it by hand-[except hood] for the NNL West here in February. except for a muffler ,some gauge work, steering column and spark controls, floor and running board mats. and detail rivets it is ''right out of the box'' these old ''Mavericks'' can be made to look pretty good. and theres much more that could have been done here also-but it was time to get started on another project!
  20. Thanks Harry-glad to be here as well.. I heard that Houk wire wheels were standard on the Bearcat starting 1917. before that they were an option. heres a pre '17 brochure that shows them on the car. I want to build one like this with white tires. interestingly 1917 was the last year for the Bearcat-[the original style that is] and Harry Stutz also sold out in '17-- he died in 1930. a 6 cylinder Bearcat [very rare ] was available for an additional $250. you can see from the brochure pics how easy it would be to convert the roadster into a bearcat.-the roadster is probably more rare today! both photos are from the same brochure. and the junker is the red Harrah bearcat as found.
  21. Thanks Guys- Cato is right-its half round-I tried 1/4 round but could not get the taper right-its too dern small for compound curves!
  22. ''DONT USE TOO MUCH GLUE KID,OR IT'LL BE SMEARSVILLE'' QUOTE FROM ED ''BIG DADDY'' ROTH
  23. Im sure the Harrah car was restored more than once. so it may be. im also sure Bill H. had more than one Bearcat. according to Tony Koveleski only 100 or so Bearcats were built between 1914 and 1917. im sure many Bulldogs [touring] and roadsters were converted over the years into bearcats. Mr Koveleski claimed his car was an original.
  24. with the body and chassis basically done now come the final details. each fixture and all hardware either scratch built or adapted from parts of many brass era 1/16 cars. lots of research and many images of the real car help me to build the most authentic model possible. #1- no decals here folks-the numbers were hand painted -and as per the real car patina added as well. #2-mistake made and corrected on number spacing on hood. #3-incidently the grey finish is brushed on also-like the real car #4-one of many parts boxes for this project. lil trivia- check out youtube - ''OLD 16 rides again''
  25. I concur..my mistake! I just saw a frame [Tony Koveleski Stutz restoration] and it does arc up -although not as abruptly as the model. set the tank and seats on and you see what you think . I thought it too high, so changed it. the foot well looks perfect! I need to add this and the footrest to my car. if you have not already seen this its a piece of great history.AJ Koveleski was the creator of Hudson Miniatures.this blog is about his bearcat restored in 1952.check out the restoration and a movie. google 1914 stutz bearcat car #2177. all the best- Frank
