there was a Gentleman who did some phenominal scratch building back in the 50s. his name was Ed Roy and he restored a beautiful 1911 SIMPLEX that came to him as a basket case. the Models were based on the car he restored and took a few decades to complete. the engines ran -the transmissions and clutches worked along with the brakes. I recently saw a close up of one of the brass cowl lights and it was jeweled and had a wick and opening door-an exact copy. many articles have been written about Mr Roy as he started the early antique car clubs back in the late 40s. the models were in 1/6 scale I believe. a great article on his models appeared in Automobile Quarterly decades ago. Ed is gone now but his models live on.....I thought all you ''Brass Fans'' Would like to see this FS

on the Mercedes- FANTASTIQUE- Maybe the next best thing to a real one. the Alfas look like glorified Pochers- I think he sez this in his intro...... -
I never thought about the dope and tissue paper- good way to get rid of the grain. looks like the market for Hudsons is going up!!!

my OLD 16 is posted on the Vanderbilt site in the mystery photo section. Howard [site manager and owner of the ALCO] sent a nice letter complementing me on it. The Black Beast would not be too hard to build as a curbside- I sure have the parts to do it! in earlier photos of the car it looks like it had a cream colored chassis that would be awesome with the black body.

1913 MERCER TYPE 35 #22

That is correct- someone started it-the body and hood-its no match for the Hudsons. but the radiator is nice with the EMF in letters on the core. -

I figured it was the Packard. with your airplane skills this should be great.these early cars had wood bodies-many without a sheet metal shell.a real ''Horseless Carriage'' there was another company that made kits similar to the Hudsons called FADOR. and this is how I found out about the Hudsons-I bought the Fador kit at a show and went on line to investigate it. the kit has diecast wheels and hardware instead of plastic. however they dont appear as accurate as the Hudson kits. mine is an EMF- I believe the auto was related to the Studebaker. -
YIKES- these Pochers don't sound too builder friendly.

1913 MERCER TYPE 35 #22

I actually bought 2 built ENTEX MERCERS on ebay a few years ago. got tires from those. some of the Fumans are better than others. hope yours are not too bad. if you are talking about the body/trunk behind the gas tank being warped I may have another one of those. I seem to remember the same situation on my car. -
that drivers seat is really good-and the flat tire. you can almost smell that musty interior

BEAUTIFUL work on the Mercer- if the 2 were real the Mercer would be noticibly smaller. -

I think the Fuman is more around 1/15- compare the tire size with the Aurora Stutz. in real life a Mercer is quite a bit smaller than a Stutz. then again the Auroras may be off-what is the name of the term about ''lost in scale''??? was there a thread here on that? -
that could be done in 1/16- but I would have to ''UN CHOP'' the top!!!!!
-
funny you should ask-I am finishing up a 1919 Dodge Brothers Touring in 1/16. another diecast rebuild. after that I have many ideas- I want to do a 1/8 32 FORD 5 window -STOCK- that may be my next challenge.
-
stunning! -it looks like a real one. this is what its all about!!!!!!

on the Hudsons thats what I did. use the balsa and card cutouts as patterns. with those plans you could 3d print one. but then that would be cheating. [or would it?] the ITC Mercer is not that bad-at least it is proportionally correct. I want to make a rear axle for mine.
