  1. excellent work-nice color and stunning wire wheels
  2. the dent on the pass door is perfect!
  3. this is why I dont build anything smaller than 1/18 -I like this detail. the chassis paint also has a good looking texture-looks like a real car. now I see what you mean about too much gloss black. taking the seams out of the petrol tank looks great also- even if nobody will see it .more and more I notice that mold lines need to be removed where they will be seen-tedious task but worth it. paint is really the major factor in this hobby and will stand out over detail as far as im concerned.no panel is ever perfect-cept for a show car- they all need a few dings ,scratches, tarnish,Patina etc etc and this is where the true ''ART''comes out in the Miniatures we build [to make that Grunge look convincing] the model builders in Hollywood are super talented in this respect. just look at Titanic
  4. Beautiful work Harry- your collection is going to look like the Long Island Automobile Museum from back in the 60's. this is a rare model and the appeal is the smaller size compared to say- a Stutz. a similar size car from the era would be the Hispano Suiza Alfonso by Entex.
  5. amazing how much change from 04 to 06! this also has the perforated seat backs like the GB car. royal blue and yellow-another great color combo. imagine this guy tearing up the road in Pa. the police may have had bicycles. there were probably not any license plates yet.I think they called those ''pre states'' when you bought a regis. # and made your own plate. [some were leather with metal numbers attached.] well this could be built using another 1/16 kit that I know of.
  6. I dont know how this got by me, But SUPERB work and very authentic details on a so-so kit. the white tires are especially well done.
  7. sure- Aurora tires would be fine-after all they are just better copies of the HM tires. early in my build you can see the HM tires [painted red primer] I wonder where the 90 hp racers ended up- could one still be out there somewhere?...............................
  8. yes- I wanted a beefier wheel and tire-as on the real car- so used the Entex Mercer wheels and the ITALA tires. [shaved off the demountable rim nuts] the real car has a slightly bigger tire on the rear but I could not go that route. the thing about the ITALA tires is they seem to have the tread like the ones on the real car. they are like an M&S tire [directionals] there was also a trio of HMs just finished on ebay with old 16 being one -looked like they had moisture damage to boxes. auction # was 161247086039. from the vintage ads ive seen for HMs the Old 16 kit retailed for 3.95 the other price was probably a SALE price.
  9. heres the auction # 271424706790 it may have ended but they seem to come up every 2-3- weeks- the seller might still have it. the nice thing is that it has a ''jog'' in the frame. [gets wider after engine mounts] you could build the frame easily enough or modify the Mercer or Stutz by making the rails thicker. or use the blueprints as a patern for styrene-best yet. if you look close on the PH GB 1/8 Model you can tell the frame is made of wood!
  10. yes-notice the transmission main cluster on the ground [well- on a board]with the external brake band and drum! and the differential on the right rear.... thats one of my favorite photos. would make one Hexx of a diorama eh?
  11. I would like to build the 90 hp Gordon Bennet as well. I like the trunk and fuel tank in back. and the color . all the parts should still be available for OLD 16- I just saw an ITALA on ebay.and the chains and sprockets are micro mark. the G.B. racer was actually offered in the 1906 Locomobile catalog-$ 18k!!!
  12. I think this is fantastic- building a kit from 1949! I have a 48 Ford Pickup - scale 1/1 and I can tell you they dont build em like they used to. its true Rick-this is ''seat of the pants building'' they really give you just shapes to start. lots of imagination is involved and scratch building for the small final hardware. there probably should be a section here for Historic Modeling! I Look foreward to more updates and thanks for the complement on OLD 16- I remember bending the balsa around the hood and cowl.
  13. Rick- heads up- theres a very rare H M on ebay -I have not seen and with a top- item # 390797018687 1904 Stevens Duryea appears mint. good bidding! FS
  14. you can almost hear that Flathead burble out the dual exhaust
  15. they all look real....how do you do the windshield frame on the 5 window?
  16. I think this may be the most EXACT HM ive seen go together. I used titebond on the Old 16 body but wood like to try your glue [-lil humor on that last sentence] I did not ever consider about the balsa quality-but is does make sense. just like the full size lumber you get these days.
  17. your paint job is incredible! and did you modify the headlights/front fenders- dont they come with the covered headlights like the james bond car? how do I buy one of these?
  18. oh- I know what this is -its UGLY!!!!
  19. I know what it is -how do I PM you????
  20. I said model-sure its not a ''real model''?
  21. real-the headlites gave it away for me
  22. did you make this body also? nice looking car!!!!
  23. SUPERB! Congratulations Harry- everytime I look at it I find a new detail. just noticed the grease cup behind fan and neat hose clamps. the Stutz badge really adds a nice touch-perfect size. Really Spot-on car in all respects- Ive never seen a better Aurora! Museum Quality Indeed !!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Thanks-sounds like a great source-I will check them out
