Hi...I use Synthetic hobby grass for most of my dioramas, but I mix it with home made grass, its less expensive. This is the recipe:....Half full a 5 gallon bucket of clean sawdust and pour warm water at full bucket. Then you mix it with clothes color dye (any green you prefer), stir it all together for about 2 mnts. Let stand for about 15 mnts. Pour the excess tinted water out of the bucket, let it dry on a table cloth. Then strain all the tinted sawdust with a fine kitchen metal strainer to separate diferent grades of texture . The smaller the grain the smaller the scale. Some colors change depending on the wood . I combine greens and yellows for more realistic details, browns are perfect for earth colors.....try it out and let me know....Barbo.

Hi...can you remember your first diorama ?.........I can, I built my first diorama for a history class in high school . The theme was about polution. So, I made a model of a industrial park near my home....Everyone was amazed about the model...but believe me, I consider it was awfull and out of scale......Barbo.

Hi....Mike Napoleon...I have two great books , maybe you have them but if you do not ...they have photos and history information of the fast foods of the 50's and 60's.....''AMERICAN ROADSIDE MEMORIES'' and ''ROUTE 66 REMEMBERED'' both are from Michael Karl Witzel. I got them from Boarders at a very low price.........Barbo.

Mike Napoleon ... Welcome to our free minded home..''Dioramas'' I am also happy about this . Knowing the methods that each modeler has from planning , elaborating and building his own diorama ,helps us understand this great hobby. There are many books and magazines around the world that can give us ideas, sugests technique and building process for our benefits. But the truth is , that every model builder will make its own path with great results....Barbo.

Hi..........Mike Napoleon , I would say that you have a ''Encyclopedia Diorama'' because every photo shot has its own self supported details. Awsome diorama........Barbo.
-
Hi...Twist67..thats fine , I thought you also build military dioramas , because I can notice some military diorama technique in your model...keep up the good work...........Barbo

Hi.....Bill....Yes, I have a couple of them, but not so aggressive as your 1/43 model . Your model looks neet , and almost a die-cast. I Have not done one with engine yet , they are all "Heller'' I need more skills for that.......Barbo.

Hi....Soonerolds..........something is missing for the photo link , try again.........Barbo.

Hi...Twist67...The Car's n Barns diorama is cool. It looks like a scene from Virginia. You did excelent weathering details with the diorama ''Old Dumper''....do you also build Military dioramas?......Barbo.

Well for me , I did not get any advice at first, What inspired me in modeling was the models used in special efects sci-fi and horror movies. King Kong , Ultraman, Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Land of the Giants, Lost in Space, War of the Worlds(original), Star Trek,etc.etc.etc. My first horror movie model was King Kong . From there on I kept building models, asking and recieving good advice in model buiding . I also got a great model kick by George Lucas and Star Wars. This situation has led me to a big problem , I just can't build a model and just let it stand by it self , I always have the need to add something to it , a figure, a tree , a street, a structure , a backdrop ,what ever...I am a Diorama fanatic....Barbo.

Hi..dptydawg.. when ever you can, post photos to see how this diorama is going ...your comment seems interesting ,"NO FRONTS" ?, it's not always important, What matter is, how you can grab the spectator's attention... that is called a succesfull diorama....Barbo
-
Its awesome ..Carl, as I said, you have that special grip for open area dioramas, next time have the photo taken outside and get a clear blue sky behind, for a small touch...keep up the good work.....Barbo.

Hi..Gregg , and thank you for adding ''The Small World of MB'' in the club directory. But if you ever can, put a small dot in the map just below the south east border of Florida, it will represent Puerto Rico, we are a small island with a big hobby heart......ja,ja,ja,ja,...your friend.... Barbo.

Now I can see the model, Soonerolds, it looks good , although not too sharp photos. But very interesting, what scale is it? it looks like a 1/43 scale diorama.........Barbo.
-
OOPS...sorry... Soonerolds... try again the post...and welcome.....Barbo

Thats great.......Carl, open area dioramas are difficult to acomplish , when a diorama has a backdrop or a structure it becoms part of the scene and it completes the idea and locks the imagination . But , a open diorama must stand for it self, must look strong and complete in details, at the same time leaving space for the imagination of the spectator, ...You have that special grip...I can tell by your work.....hope to see more of your great open dioramas...........Barbo.
