  1. Agree on the wheels. I tried to use some Tamiya clear red on the rim of the stock wheel but it didn't look right. So I went with the totally out of spec wheels from the AMT 49 Mercury. If I owned the real car, I might have done the same thing!
  2. Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.
  3. Thanks, Monty. I build a lot of rally cars, all with a lot of decals. I find a car like the Studebaker more challenging because there is nowhere to hide. I found that detailing the emblems is still tricky for me. I tried painting instead of bare metal foil, using the pencil eraser method. But it's tough to get full coverage on the emblem that way. I may go back and touch them up. Thanks for you comments - I too remember those AMT kits being 72. The Impala was another good one, you're right about that.
  4. Amazing!
  5. You are right Spex84!
  6. Here's AMT's 1953 Studebaker. The wheels look cool, but they are totally incorrect. Give a shout out if you know what kit they are from.
  7. Thank you for the positive comments, guys.
  8. Pretty good kit for being about 35 years old. Decals were sketchy, though. I used Tamiya gunmetal then cleared it.
  9. Thanks, Rich. If I had to do it again, I would spend more time adjusting body panel fit before painting - another lesson learned. Good luck on your next build whatever it is.
  10. Thanks for the nice comments, guys.
  11. Looks great. What 3d printer do you use?
  12. Tamiya kit. First of all, giving props to StokeModel's version of this kit, which was incredible and an inspiration. Particularly the color scheme. Couldn't quite come up to that level, but came out ok. For anyone building this - a lot of detail which I tried to show. The panel fit was a real problem (or should I say challenge) for me. All the clear parts are a minefield in terms of potential for smudging. But, now that it's done, I learned a bit and on to the next
  13. This is Belkit's Hyundai i20 WRC. Definitely a 10 in terms of decal difficulty. The kit includes so much interior detail that no-one will ever see. I could save myself a lot of time by using decal seatbelts but nooooo! I'm kind of obsessed with these kits, even though there is no engine. My next two builds will have 0 decals!
  14. Hi. Replied to your DM re night lamps. I found aftermarket decals for the Rothman logos - even though 'Racing' may be correct for the UK version. I hear you about the age - I'm not too far behind you in that regard. And I'm not sure why I keep collecting kits, because based on my run rate, I'll never finish them all!
  15. This was built off the 1/12 Fujima Calsonic Skyline GTR kit. I decided to do the Kyoseki version using Shunko decals. Primed the blue body and sprayed it with Tamiya Park Green. I have pictures before/after decals. The seatbelts and hood pins were aftermarket. I wasn't happy with the kit engine bay, so I added a couple of reservoir tanks and did some minor plumbing. Interesting kit, a lot of screws. Some fitment problems with the doors at least for me. Decals were ok, left with some bubbles though. All in all, a fun build and glad to get it off my plate. Just have to add a couple of pins for the trunk, waiting for Revell chrome paint to dry for that.
  16. Thanks. I primed the body in Tamiya grey, masked the body and painted the fenders white. Then masked the fenders and painted the rest of the body Tamiya French Blue. There are actually a couple of areas where I applied a white decal, like where the aero pieces meet the fender, because the seam lines between the parts didn't look so good. I use spray cans, but I have thought about moving to an airbrush. But with something like this, I don't know that an airbrush would do any better. Still would have masking to do, and cleanup of overspray would probably still be needed.
  17. Thanks for the encouraging comments, Rich. I recently bought the 1/12 Lancia Stratos from Italeri. Looking forward to building that sometime this year.
  18. Ford Fiesta WRC M-Sport World Rally Team - ADAC Deutschland Rally 2018 This is the Belkits Ford Fiesta. I wanted to build this specific livery, which I found from Decalcas. The decals were excellent, but very, very thin and tended to roll up - so extra care had to be applied. Once they were laid down, they stuck pretty well without having to use a decal softener, something Decalcas doesn't recommend. I prefer to build cars with engines, so I took a chance and ordered the engine/bay transkit from KMP. It was great, very well engineered. The hardest part was cutting open the hood on the body to make way for the engine. It fits well in the model. Lot's of fiddling with decals, and with masking for the paint. I'm glad this is done. Difficult for me, but a good challenge.
